BJD slams cancellation of coastal highway tender; calls it double betrayal by Centre
BJD vice-president and former minister Sanjay Das Burma told a media conference here that the development has thrown the long-delayed project into uncertainty yet again. He said under the Centre's Bharatmala project, 413 km-long coastal highway was planned and formally announced by Union minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari at Pipili on July 9, 2015. It was proposed that the route from Ratanpur to Chandanpur would be declared a national highway and connected with the proposed coastal highway.
The proposed length of the coastal highway was later changed to 346 km. Das Burma said initially it was decided that the highway would be of four-lane and tenders were invited accordingly.
But now, after re-evaluation, there are indications that it may be downgraded to a two-lane road, which is completely unacceptable, he said. He urged Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi to immediately discuss the matter with the Centre and ensure that the project is executed as originally planned.

Do not politicise my meeting with Stalin, says O. Panneerselvam
Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Monday rejected speculations about his likely association with the ruling DMK and further maintained his objective was to form Amma's government in the 2026 Assembly poll. He clarified that his recent comments on the Centre not releasing funds for Tamil Nadu under the Samagra Shiksha programme were not new, and he had flagged this as early as in August 2024. In a statement, Mr. Panneerselvam termed as 'indecent' the attempts by some to politicise his visit to Mr. Stalin's residence. 'The meeting was not related to politics,' he contended.'It is in the culture of the Tamils to visit and enquire about the well-being of someone, who has been under treatment in a hospital and has returned home, and to extend condolences if there is a loss in the family,' he said in a statement. Recalling his visit to the Chief Minister's residence, Mr. Panneerselvam explained that he visited only to enquire about the health of Mr. Stalin and express condolences over the passing of the latter's brother M.K. Muthu. He also rejected contentions and speculations which termed him as 'DMK's Team B', and he was about to forge an alliance with the DMK and maintained there was 'not even an iota of truth in it'. He recalled in June that he had condemned the Hindu Munnani over remarks made against late leaders Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and C.N. Annadurai. 'I have also condemned former BJP leaders who criticised Amma [former CM Jayalalithaa]. I have also recorded my support for the two-language policy,' he asserted. Mr. Panneerselvam added: 'I also directed to vote against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Irrespective of wherever I am, I will walk on the path laid down by Amma for the rights and welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.'

After CM's Push, MP Dhanorkar Follows Up on Inclusion of 14 Disputed Villages into Maharashtra
Chandrapur: Days after chief minister Devendra Fadnavis issued directives for the inclusion of 14 disputed villages from Jiwati tehsil under Maharashtra's jurisdiction, the matter has gained further momentum with Chandrapur MP Pratibha Dhanorkar raising the issue at the central level. A delegation led by Dhanorkar met Union minister Bhupender Yadav in Delhi and urged immediate resolution of the decades-old border dispute. She pointed out that despite a 1997 Supreme Court ruling, the issue remains unresolved, with official demarcation and land record integration still pending. The 14 villages—including Antapur, Padmavati, Indiranagar, Palsaguda, Yesapur, Bhelapathar, Lendiguda, and others—lie along the Maharashtra-Telangana border and have long been caught in administrative ambiguity. The Telangana administration continues to exert parallel control, leaving thousands of Marathi-speaking residents in limbo. MP Dhanorkar stressed the need for urgent coordination between the Centre and the state to formally bring the villages under Maharashtra's administrative fold. Doing so, she said, would unlock development potential and restore rightful governance. The Union minister assured a prompt and positive resolution. During the meeting, Dhanorkar also flagged the issue of 8,649 hectares in Jiwati tehsil wrongly classified as forest land. As per joint reports by the local tehsildar and forest officials, the land does not meet the criteria for forest status. However, due to administrative delays, local farmers have been deprived of land rights and access to government schemes. Calling the misclassification a serious impediment to rural welfare, Dhanorkar requested the Union government's intervention to expedite the de-notification process. With both the state and Centre now actively engaged, hopes are high that the longstanding issues affecting Jiwati's border villages will finally be resolved.

Centre halts MGNREGS, housing funds to West Bengal over 'misuse' The Centre informed Parliament on Monday that it has halted the release of funds to West Bengal under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) and the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G), following the detection of financial misappropriation and violations of guidelines by the state.'In the case of West Bengal, inspection reports from central teams highlighted implementation issues such as financial misappropriation, execution of nonpermissible activities, splitting of works, and a lack of transparency and accountability,' minister of state for finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. He added that the Ministry of rural development had issued several communications to the state government seeking corrective action, but 'no noticeable improvements were observed.' 'Consequently, the release of funds to the state of West Bengal has been stopped since March 9, 2022, under Section 27 of the Act, due to non-compliance with Central government directives,' he said.
