Ahmedabad: The Sabarmati riverfront is about to offer more than just a scenic stroll. Starting July 5, it is inviting residents to listen, look, and fall in love with its feathered visitors.
The Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) has launched 'Birdwatching at the Riverfront', a new weekend activity that encourages Amdavadis to explore the quieter side of the city.
Over 191 bird species have been spotted along the riverfront's stretch, and the programme will guide participants through hotspots like the Biodiversity Park, Flower Park, Dudheshwar Bridge, and the railway bridge-Subhas Bridge area, which are prime zones for bird activity.
Sessions will be held twice daily, from 6am to 8am and 5pm to 7pm, when bird movement is most active.
Beginning this Saturday, the sessions will begin at the Biodiversity Park located below Ambedkar Bridge on the west side of the riverfront every Saturday and Sunday. SRFDCL's press release stated that the experience is "tailor-made for those who enjoy walking and have a love for nature," with accommodations "for all age groups". "Participants will be provided with birdwatching tools such as a telescope, binoculars, and a bird identification handbook.
Photography is welcome, and guests are encouraged to bring their own cameras," it further stated.

13 Passengers Booked Flight Tickets In Gujarat, Air India Put Them In A Car Instead

Last Updated: Air India passengers at Bhuj Airport were denied boarding despite valid tickets due to an aircraft change, causing missed connections and passenger outrage An unexpected disruption involving Air India left several passengers stranded at Bhuj Airport in Gujarat on Saturday morning. Thirteen travellers, all with confirmed tickets, were unable to board their scheduled flight. While some passengers were not issued boarding passes, others who received them were later informed that no seats were available. Several of the affected passengers had travelled from remote parts of the Kutch district to board the flight, only to be informed of the issue at the airport. The disruption appears to have stemmed from a last-minute operational adjustment by the airline. What Happened At Bhuj Airport? Flight AI609, scheduled to depart from Bhuj to Mumbai at 8:55am, experienced confusion during the boarding process. Some passengers who had completed check-in and received boarding passes were later told they could not be accommodated on the flight. At around 8:15am, a number of passengers approached the airline counter seeking clarification. According to reports, they did not receive a clear explanation at the time. Official Response and Passenger Accounts Bhuj Airport Director Anurag Vaishnav confirmed that Air India later arranged alternative travel options for the affected passengers. Times of India quoted a passenger as saying that although he had completed web check-in and arrived on time, he was not assigned a seat. 'My two-year-old son and wife were with me. My brother and sister-in-law got seats on another flight, but I did not," he said. He added that the issue arose due to a change in aircraft. 'The staff informed us that, due to technical reasons, a smaller A320 aircraft had replaced the A321 from Mumbai, resulting in fewer available seats." Alternative Arrangements According to passenger accounts, Air India offered to transport those affected by car to Ahmedabad and then fly them to Mumbai later in the day. One traveller declined the offer due to scheduling constraints and instead arranged an alternative flight from Kandla with assistance from an acquaintance. Some passengers reported missing onward connections in Mumbai, and there were concerns raised about the lack of prior communication regarding the aircraft change. Air India's Statement According to the TOI report, Air India issued the following clarification: 'On flight AI609 scheduled from Bhuj to Mumbai, an A320 aircraft replaced the A321 due to technical reasons, leading to some passengers not getting seats. We have arranged alternatives, such as reallocating seats to other flights and providing car transport. We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate the passengers' cooperation." view comments First Published: July 15, 2025, 08:59 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Taliban Calling

Times of India's Edit Page team comprises senior journalists with wide-ranging interests who debate and opine on the news and issues of the day. The extremist regime wants tourists. Why shouldn't it? It's part of the normalisation of brutality Kim Jong Un last month posed on a beach, surfing on the 'wave of happiness' that North Korea's Dear Leader has promised tourists visiting the newly developed Wonsan Kalma coastal tourist zone. The dictator wants more international tourists. So far, small Russian groups are the only package deal North Korea receives. This month, it's Taliban's turn to invite tourists to Afghanistan. Wonsan Kalma and Afghanistan are beautiful places. But they are not on tourists maps for good reason. Taliban's ad is made by a tour operator. It starts with a familiar chilling scene of beheadings: men, heads covered, kneeling in front of gun-wielding, presumably, Afghans. Only here, the headcover is yanked off to reveal a grinny White male flashing a thumbs-up sign. A flower tucked in the barrel of a machine gun, a close-up of an M4 rifle with 'property of US govt' etched, the 50-second ad flits between making light of Taliban as people who terrorised to stunning footage of Afghanistan. It is as extraordinarily tone-deaf as many of Trump's Truth Social posts. Taliban meanwhile is intensifying its war against Afghan women. Banned from work and education, they're publicly flogged, refused healthcare unless a male relative's present, and their movement is fully restricted. Heavily sanctioned Taliban wants tourists to earn some hard cash. But to make a beheading scene part of a promotion targeted at Americans is a cold measure of how normalised brutality is. Will Americans go, though their govt says don't? Undoubtedly. Indifference to violence is global culture, the unthinkable is routinely normalised. So, for a certain section, what could thrill more than swinging an M4 or Kalashnikov at Afghanistan's majestic peaks? Reality and rights & wrongs can take a vacation.
