Tun Sambanthan's speeches compiled in National Archives book
The book compiles speeches and reflections from the late leader's political career, offering insights into his vision for national unity and development.
National Archives director-general Datuk Jaafar Sidek Abdul Rahman highlighted the book's significance in preserving Tun Sambanthan's contributions.
'This publication supports the National Unity Policy and the National Unity Blueprint 2021-2030,' he said. The book documents his efforts in uplifting the Indian community and fostering inclusivity in Malaysia.
Jaafar Sidek added that the book serves as a key resource for students, researchers, and policymakers.
'It provides historical perspectives on unity through the lens of a national leader,' he noted.
In a related initiative, the public is encouraged to visit the Memorial Negarawan in Kuala Lumpur, which showcases exhibits on seven distinguished leaders, including Tun Sambanthan.
The memorial is open daily except Mondays and offers free admission. Virtual access is also available through the e-Negarawan portal. – Bernama

Malaysia-China mutual visa-free travel begins tomorrow
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian citizens will enjoy visa-free entry to China for short-term visits totalling up to 90 days within a 180-day period, effective Thursday (July 17). In a statement, the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia said that under the China-Malaysia Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption, Malaysian and Chinese passport holders may enter, exit, or transit through each other's countries without a visa and stay for up to 30 days per visit, starting Thursday. The visa-free entry applies to purposes such as tourism, family visits, business, cultural exchange, private affairs, medical treatment, and travel as crew members. "The cumulative duration of stay must not exceed 90 days within any 180-day period," the statement stated. The embassy stated that those planning to stay for more than 30 days, or to work, study, engage in media activities, or undertake any activity requiring prior approval, must apply for the appropriate visa before entering the country. PUTRAJAYA, July 16 (Bernama) -- The 48th meeting of the National Physical Planning Council (MPFN), chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today, approved the Planning and Management Guidelines for Environmentally Sensitive Areas proposed by the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT). In a statement, the ministry said the guidelines aim to standardise the definition, classification and sensitivity levels of environmentally sensitive areas to ensure consistent application across the board. The Planning and Management Guidelines will serve as a key reference for state governments, local authorities, PLANMalaysia offices, state-level Environment Departments and other implementing agencies.

Freedom of Information Bill expected to be tabled by year-end: PM

He said the bill is a vital step to building public trust and encouraging informed participation in the country's democracy. "These reforms reflect our holistic and determined approach to building strong, fair and transparent institutions that serve all Malaysians with integrity," he said in his speech at the International Conference on Governance and Integrity 2025 here. Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki. Anwar said the government is also in the process of amending the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 (Act 711) to provide broader and more meaningful safeguards. "This includes removing previous exclusions that limited protection and establishing an independent Whistleblower Protection Committee to ensure effective implementation," he said.
