easyJet flight met by police after 'abusive' passenger urinates in aisle

Daily Record17 hours ago
Police officers stormed the plane on arrival in Tenerife on Wednesday morning.
A disruptive passenger on board an easyJet flight is said to have urinated in the aisle, forcing staff to call ahead for police to meet the plane on arrival as a rowdy group caused trouble.
The scenes played out on board the service from Birmingham to Tenerife South on Wednesday, July 2, with air traffic controllers giving it priority landing on the Spanish island, where it arrived just before 3.30am.

Local newspaper Canarian Weekly reported the cabin crew had requested "urgent assistance" after the incident, with "significant disturbance" caused. The airline confirmed the group of passengers had become "abusive and threatening" during the flight.

Police boarded the plane on arrival in Tenerife, the Mirror reports. However, it is not known whether any arrests were made.
A spokesperson for easyJet said: "We can confirm that flight EZY6607 from Birmingham to Tenerife on 2 July was met by police on arrival due to a group of passengers behaving disruptively onboard.
"easyJet's crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations. They acted quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers was not compromised at any time. The safety and well-being of our passengers and crew is always easyJet's priority, and we do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard."

It comes just weeks after police were called to an easyJet flight bound for Marrakech in May, which had descended into chaos by rowdy British passengers on a stag party. Two men reportedly vaped on board, drank heavily and subjected the crew to abuse.
Despite six warnings from staff, they continued to act in a rowdy manner, and the pilot was forced to divert to Faro, Portugal, leaving fellow passengers fuming.

A witness claimed: "The men were vaping in their seats and toilet, drinking heavily and to my opinion already drunk or close to when boarding. They were being abusive towards staff on the flight and I think they had an undertone of homophobia toward the head steward."
An easyJet spokesperson said the flight, from London Gatwick to Marrakech on May 19, "diverted to Faro and was met by police upon arrival due to a group of passengers behaving disruptively onboard". Once the passengers had left the aircraft, the flight then continued to Marrakech.
"Our cabin crew are trained to assess and evaluate all situations and acted quickly and appropriately to ensure that the safety of the flight and other passengers was not compromised at any time. The safety and wellbeing of our passengers and crew is always easyJet's priority and we do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard."

Double funeral for slain Scots hoods Eddie Lyons Jr & Ross Monaghan to held TODAY

The pair are being laid to rest by loved-ones just over one month after being gunned down in Spain Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MOURNERS are gathering today for the funeral of slain gangland kingpins Eddie Lyons Jnr and Ross Monaghan - amid simmering revenge fears linked to Scotland's raging turf wars. Lyons, 46, and Monaghan, 43, are being laid to rest by loved-ones in a joint ceremony just over one month after they were gunned down in a Spanish boozer. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Eddie Lyons Jnr, left, and Ross Monaghan were murdered by a gunman on May 31. 3 Monaghans bar in Fuengirola, Spain where the two hoods were assassinated. 3 CCTV captured the moment a gunman pursued Monaghan inside the death boozer. The solemn occasion comes days after we revealed authorities in Spain had handed over the pair's bodies to relatives to be repatriated to Scotland. Hundreds of friends, family and underworld figures are gathering at a crematorium in north Glasgow to show respect to Monaghan and Lyons Jnr - son of Godfather Eddie, 67, and brother of Dubai-based mob boss Steven Lyons, 44. We told how Lyons and Monaghan met their end after watching the Champions League Final in Monaghans, Fuengirola, on Saturday,May 31. In the wake of the killings, associates of the Irish Kinahan cartel leaders gave their support to the families and promised them: "We'll get this sorted." Allies of fugitive kingpin Daniel Kinahan had also told grieving loved ones they intend to pay their respects at the funerals of the executed hoods. We told how Monaghan was key in helping to cement the Glasgow-based Lyons' ties with the Kinahans, who have a £4million bounty on their heads in the US. A relative told The Scottish Sun: "Ross was very, very close with the Irish guys. He had a very close relationship with them. "The family have had a few phone calls from them to say, 'Sorry for your loss'.' We told how alleged hitman Michael Riley is to fight extradition. The 44-year-old, of Huyton, Liverpool, appeared last month at Westminster Magistrates Court as part of a bid to have him shipped to Spain. Riley's full extradition hearing will be in October and is expected to last all day. The Lyons gang kingpins were drinking in Monaghans bar when they were gunned down in front of staff and revellers. A hooded assassin was captured on CCTV storming the boozer and shooting both men dead in a targeted double hit. We told how cops in Spain and Scotland gave conflicting information over who is believed to have ordered the slayings. Police Scotland first insisted they had 'no intelligence' to suggest the murders were connected to an ongoing turf war here. However, their Spain counterparts later said the man they want extradited over the killings was 'an internal member of the rival Daniel gang'. That prompted the Scottish force to repeat their insistence there is no Daniel link to the slayings - a position also held by members of Monaghan's family. A relative of the murdered mob boss said last month: 'The one thing people need to know is the Daniels are not behind this.' We told how a captured mobile phone holds the key to proving the alleged assassination is linked to their Daniel gang rivals, sources claim. Cops are understood to have seized the mobile from the alleged hitman suspected of shooting dead the duo. Insiders say it contains data allegedly linking Riley to Daniel hoods who Spanish detectives reckon are behind the massacre. Career criminal Monaghan – who fled Scotland for Spain after a failed attempt on his life in 2017 – was tried but acquitted over the murder of notorious Glasgow hood Kevin 'Gerbil' Carroll at an Asda car park in 2010. In August 2017 he and Lyons Jr, both members of the Lyons Glasgow crime family, were cleared of being involved in a brutal street attack on three men outside the Campsie bar in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow. The murders happened in the thick of a gang war in Scotland involving associates of caged kingpin Mark Richardson, 38, and his allies in the Daniel clan - the Lyons' arch enemies. Dubai-based hood Ross 'Miami' McGill and a group known as Tamo Junto have been targeting Richardson's associates and Daniel family members. Cops have arrested 50 people in Scotland under Operation Portaledge but McGill remains out of reach in the UAE. Scotland's top cop has warned hoods based abroad who are linked to the chaos 'We are coming for you'. Chief Constable Jo Farrell laid down the gauntlet to crime figures hiding in the glitzy desert bolthole. She said: "We're working closely with the Crown Office and the National Crime Agency (NCA) to see if we can get those people back from those countries. "These aren't fast processes, but we're working with the authorities there and the NCA have individuals in those countries. "That's our link in and we're working very closely with them.'

Retracing Diogo Jota's tragic journey shows road plagued with hazards from shut lanes to wild deer ready to leap out

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) DIOGO Jota's fateful last journey was fraught with hazards which could have contributed to the car smash tragedy - including wild deer on the highway. The Sun retraced the route from the crash scene and found the A-52 highway poorly surfaced and dogged by miles of roadworks leading to the death smash scene. 9 The Scene of the car crash on the A52 highway outside Puebla de Sanabria, Spain, Credit: Darren Fletcher 9 Wreckage of the £210,000 Lamborghini Huracan at the tragic crash site Credit: Getty 9 Liverpool FC star Jota, 28, died alongside his brother André, 25 Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 9 And we encountered two adult deer standing on a side road less than half a mile from the spot where the Liverpool ace's Lamborghini veered off the road and burst into flames. What we know so far: Jota was driving with his younger brother Andre in a hired £210,000 Lamborghini Huracan supercar from Portugal to the northern Spanish port of Santander. But as soon as he crossed the border, his progress would have been slowed by at least 10 miles of road works. His acid green Lamorghini left the highway a few minutes' drive after the end of a section of roadworks at 12.40pm local time on Thursday (11.40pm on Wednesday in the UK). The speed limit on the section where the car crashed is 120kph - 74.5mph. Spanish Guardia Civil investigators believe a tyre blowout could account for its fatal change of direction. But deer could have also triggered a sudden swerve and are a constant hazard throughout this wild, forested region - as attested by warning signs along the route. Spanish police said they were not actively considering the involvement of wild animals in the smash yesterday, but did not rule out the possibility. 'Heartbroken' Ronaldo leads tributes to Diogo Jota as football mourns Liverpool & Portugal star Other animal hazards reported to have caused accidents in the area have included Iberian wolves roaming the carriageway and flocks of crows. The Sun has also found that the stretch of the A-52 motorway where tragedy struck has generated more than 40 complaints about the poor condition of the road in just one month last year. Potholes were worse on the Sanabria section, near the 65km marker point - the exact spot where the Jota car crashed. A string of complaints to the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, responsible for maintaining the road, triggered urgent roadworks. And at least one of the complaints was said to relate to a "damage accident" involving a private vehicle in which a Spanish family was travelling, three miles from the Jota smash. Spanish police were continuing to investigate the cause of the fatal crash last night after taking away the unrecognisable remains of the burned-out sports car. 9 Sun Man Nick Parker at The Scene of the car crash on the A52 highway outside Puebla de Sanabria, Spain Credit: Darren Fletcher 9 Rute Cardoso and Diogo Jota got married on June 22 9 Two hearses from Portugal arrive at the funeral home in the Spanish town of Puebla de Sanabria Credit: AFP 9 Jota pictured with Cristiano Ronaldo while playing for Portugal Credit: Getty It comes as Jota's funerals began today, with close friends and family gathering to mourn the loss of the champion footballer. Jota's grieving wife was consoled by relatives amid emotional scenes at his funeral chapel today. Rute Cardoso - who married the Liverpool ace just 11 days earlier - arrived at Sao Cosme Chapel in his home town of Gondomar near Porto, northern Portugal, early this morning. Local priest Jose Manuel Macedo initially announced the ceremonies would take place at 4pm on Friday before confirming they had been put back to Saturday morning. Father Macedo said a wake would take place at Sao Cosme Chapel before the funeral mass on Saturday morning at the Catholic church next door - the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar. Diogo Jota began his footballing career at a club in Gondomar and is also thought to have met his wife there. In Portugal, wakes are usually held before the funeral service. Crowds began gathering on Thursday night near the chapel - the Capela da Ressurreicao on the outskirts of Porto - and applauded as the brothers coffins arrived at 11.30pm. Tributes have been flooding in since the horrific news, including from Jota's Portugal teammate Cristiano Ronaldo, former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp and current Reds boss Arne Slot. Ronaldo said on Instagram: "It doesn't make sense. Just now we were together in the selection, you had gotten married now. 9 "To your family, your wife and your children, I send my condolences and wish you all the strength in the world. "I know you will always be with them. Rest in Peace, Diogo and André. We will all miss you." Lionel Messi posted a touching image of Jota making a heart symbol with his hands with the message "QEPD" - short for the Spanish phrase "que en paz descanse" which translates to "may he rest in peace". Liverpool's number nine, Darwin Nunez, shared an image of a beaming Jota coming on as a substitute for the Uruguayan last season. The star striker said he will always remember Jota for his smile. Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has shared his own statement on his "great friend". The German, who signed Jota from Wolves for £45m in 2020, said on social media: "This is a moment where I struggle! There must be a bigger purpose, but I can't see it." He continued: "Diogo was not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father. "We will miss you so much. All my prayers, thoughts and power to Rute, the kids, the family, the friends and everyone who loved them." Fellow Liverpool icons such as Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard, Robbie Fowler and David James have all also paid their respects. Carragher posted on Instagram: 'Absolutely devastated by the sad news about Diogo Jota. Thoughts are with his wife Rute and their three kids.' UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer added that Jota's death is "devastating news". He told reporters today: "I'm sure I speak for everyone in saying our first thoughts are going to be with his family and his friends in particular. "But there are millions of Liverpool fans, but also football fans, and non-fans, who will also be shocked by this."

Scots carer performed 'sex act' on disabled man at Falkirk Wheel

Their improper relationship came to light after the pair turned up hand-in-hand at his dad's house and told him they were together. A care worker engaged in sexual activity with a vulnerable man she was supposed to be looking after. Megan Neilson, 28, was appointed to support the 29-year-old who suffers from cerebral palsy as well as epilepsy and also has a learning disability. ‌ The pair quickly struck up a close bond which led to them both declaring that they loved each other. ‌ Neilson repeatedly kissed and cuddled him during trips to a bowling alley and at Strathclyde Park while she later performed a sex act on him as they sat in a car parked at the Falkirk Wheel. Their improper relationship came to light after the pair turned up hand-in-hand at his dad's house and told him they were together. Neilson told the sickened father she would resign from her role as a support worker but police were called in. When officers arrived at her home, Neilson asked: "Is this about the inappropriate relationship?" Neilson, of Airdrie, Lanarkshire, denied any wrongdoing between June and August 2022 and went on trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court. But jurors took an hour to convict her of engaging in sexual activity with the man while being a person who provided care services to him. ‌ Jurors were shown a police interview with the man where he told them how he believed he was in a relationship with Neilson and described sexual acts between them. He said: "She said if anybody found out about us she would lose her job, her daughter and her college course. ‌ "I felt awkward because this had never happened to me before." When asked how he felt about telling his parents and the police about Neilson, he replied: "I feel as if I made her a promise and broke it." His dad told the court he had been 'suspicious' of the pair before they told him they were together. ‌ He said: "They said 'we've something to tell you, we are in a relationship' and it took a while for it to sink in what was being said. "I questioned Megan that it would be so wrong because she was one of his carers and she said 'I'm going to leave anyway so it will be fine'. "I was in shock but then realised my suspicion was confirmed that there was something going on and I had this sickly feeling because it was a major breach of trust by the support worker working with him. ‌ "He is still not the same wee laddie." The court was also shown messages sent from Neilson to the man. One said: "I love you. If it means losing everything, that's fine." ‌ She then told him: "Delete this mind." Neilson denied any sexual contact between the pair but said she resigned from her support role after developing an 'emotional relationship' with him. The mum-of-two added: "I'm not sure why he has said this, it was maybe because he couldn't be with me but I can't get my head round it. ‌ "I feel terrible, it has affected me really really badly and it has given me a lot of anxiety but there was nothing sexual between me and him." Depute fiscal Lewis Devoy told jurors Neilson had committed a ' gross breach of trus t' and said the man had 'no reason' to lie. Lewis Kennedy, defence advocate, told the jury: "Her position is really straightforward and that is she was only involved in an emotional relationship with the complainer and that it was never sexual." ‌ Sheriff Linda Nicolson deferred sentence on the first offender until next month for reports and continued her bail. She added: "You have been found guilty by the jury of this charge which is obviously very serious." Neilson, who is now unemployed, was placed on the sex offenders' register.
