The British driver has been hashing out talks with Merc over the last few weeks, with just the final details to be fine tuned.

Toto Wolff's team were keen for an agreement to be made after the final race in Hungary this weekend before the summer break.
It is likely to be later though as Russell's team go over the details of the new deal.
Mercedes had been keeping tabs on Verstappen but the Dutchman is set to stay put at Red Bull for 2026.
Following Sunday's Belgian Grand Prix he is now unable to activate a release clause that relied on him being outside the top three by the summer break.
The four-time world champion or Mercedes could still buy himself out of his deal that runs until 2028 - but it would cost a pretty penny and this option is not on Verstappen's radar.
Verstappen is third in the standings 28 points ahead of George Russell in fourth after winning the sprint race in Spa and coming fourth in Sunday's Grand Prix.
The Dutchman and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton are the highest earners on the grid on around £60m-a-year.
Meanwhile Russell's new deal will see him roughly on par with McLaren's Lando Norris and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc.
Mercedes suffered a disappointing run in Spa with Russell finishing fifth and Kimi Anontelli coming in 16th.
Frustrated Russell slammed the team's weekend and said crunch talks would be held this week to get to the bottom of the team's woes.
Nico Rosberg in frosty exchange with Jos Verstappen over Christian Horner after Red Bull sacking
He said: 'We really need to understand what is going on and why we've taken such a step backwards because these conditions (in Spa) are ideal for us and our car.
'It's been the worst performance of the season so we're going to have a big sit-down this week and try and figure it out.
'We need to sit down as a team. It may be as simple as reserving back to some of the old changes we've made. But in F1 it's never that simple.
'The car isn't feeling as nice to drive at the moment as it once did. Lacking rear stability.
'Kimi and I are collectively making more mistakes because the car is more challenging to drive. It seems quite strange how we've gone so far backwards.'

Ruben Amorim has 'no doubts' that Man United can win Premier League and Champions League again
Ruben Amorim has said he has 'no doubts' that Manchester United can reach the highs of Premier League and Champions League glory again, echoing bullish comments made by his player Luke Shaw on the club's pre-season tour. United finished 15th last term in a dismal season, their lowest league finish since 1989-90, and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham to finish without silverware. But Amorim, who said the 'hardest part' of his job was going to games 'know[ing] that we are not going to be competitive', felt confident that things could be turned around in his first full season as manager. Speaking to various publications on Sunday ahead of their friendly against Everton in Chicago, Amorim said: 'I know it's a massive gap from where we finished - but it's Manchester United. We need to return to Europe.' Asked whether United can win the Premier League and Champions League again, he said, 'I have no doubts. 'There are some things you cannot buy that this club has: pedigree, history, fans. With all these things, if we have a different culture, we can return to our place.' His comments echoed Shaw's, who said earlier in this tour that, 'The aim has to be to win the Premier League,' he said. 'I know people will be questioning me after last season, but it has to be that.' Shaw also made a comment that there were 'no stragglers' in the United team, with a major clearout of players taking place and several expensive signings heading for the exit door or out of favour. The exiles Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrrell Malacia were not included in the pre-season squad and have been given the opportunity to explore the possibility of moves away, while Marcus Rashford has been offloaded to Barcelona on loan. Amorim gave a matter-of-fact explanation of the state of affairs at Old Trafford. 'There are players that clearly show they don't want to be here and that is normal. They are not bad and I'm good. I'm not bad and they are good,' he said. 'If the market closes and then they are Manchester United players, we as a club have to treat them in the same conditions. But in this moment I'm just working with the players that I think are going to stay and the other guys are trying to find a solution for their careers.' Of Garnacho, who abruptly fell out of favour at the end of last season, Amorim said, 'He's a really talented boy and sometimes things don't work out. You cannot explain specifically what it is. 'But I have the feeling, I think it's clear that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership and I can understand that. So I think it's not a problem.' The 40-year-old evidently sees his tenure as a long-term project. He said, 'I want to be manager of Manchester United for a while,' later asserting he wanted to be at the club for '20 years'. 'And I took five years to choose this club so I don't want to fail,' he added.

F1 Hungarian GP LIVE: Race updates and times as Leclerc starts on pole in Budapest
George Russell, who starts in fourth: 'The start is also important but race-pace tends to favour the winner, it's difficult to overtake, a lot of work in strategy. 'Sneak in there...' His answer, however, was an unyielding message to his beleaguered Ferrari team. Asked whether he'd been at the Maranello factory in the last few weeks, Hamilton replied that he had. A 'couple of days each week', he detailed. Then, untriggered, the British driver, often so reluctant to reveal the inner workings of his mind, went into full disclosure mode. Secret documents and a rallying cry: How Lewis Hamilton is trying to revive Ferrari Hamilton endured a 'weekend to forget' in Spa but the seven-time world champion remains determined to end his F1 career on a high – and is already eyeing change for 2026 Kieran Jackson3 August 2025 13:40 HUNGARORING FACTFILE The Hungaroring is a 4.381 km circuit that lies around 45 minutes away from Budapest, the capital of Hungary. The track has hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986, and has proved popular among fans. It is known for its tight, winding nature and is both the second shortest and second slowest circuit in F1, having been compared to Monaco in the past. Turn 1 is the main overtaking spot – although Turn 2 and the hill towards Turn 4 often throw together overtaking battles – while the middle sector focuses on grip and keeping the tyres alive. While overtaking is notoriously difficult, there have been notable highlights over the years including Jenson Button's maiden victory in 2006, a superb strategic win from Michael Schumacher in 1998 and Esteban Ocon's victory for Alpine in 2021. Antonelli is certainly very fast, but also a very young driver,' Helmut Marko said. 'Strangely enough, we spoke briefly in the hotel at Spa, and he said that he has no confidence in the car. As soon as he pushes, he no longer has control. 'It's more of a mental thing, and it seems that [with] his car, like ours, it's very critical to be in the working window. When it does work, it's much more potent, and of course a driver like Russell does it much more easily. Mercedes, thank goodness, don't have the luxury of a second team.' Ademola Lookman releases bombshell statement accusing Atalanta of ‘poor treatment as a human' after transfer request
ADEMOLA LOOKMAN has delivered an attack on Atalanta for 'blocking' his £39million move to Inter Milan. The former England under-21 international, an Arsenal target at the start of the summer, played for Charlton and Everton and also had loan spells at Fulham and Leicester but has spent the last three seasons in Italy after joining from Leipzig. 2 Lookman, 27, who scored a hat-trick in the 2024 Europa Cup final against Bayer Leverkusen, claims Atalanta promised he could join Inter for a certain price. The Nigerian international said, in a lengthy statement: 'I hope to work together with the club to find an amicable solution for all parties as soon as possible. 'Over the past three years at Atalanta, I've given absolutely everything. Not just as a footballer, but as a person. "I've always worn the shirt with pride and tried to represent this club and the city of Bergamo with heart, passion and dedication. "I came here with the hope of helping this special club grow and together, we've created memories that will stay with me forever. "Winning the Europa League and standing shoulder to shoulder with my teammates that night in Dublin celebrating with our fans was one of the proudest moments of my career so far. "It still gives me goosebumps thinking about it. Atalanta, and especially its supporters, have become a part of me. "This place has felt like home from the moment I arrived, and I've always tried to repay that love - even in moments where things haven't been easy behind the scenes. "That's what makes writing this so hard. I have loved every moment but feel that now, after three wonderful years in Bergamo, it is the right time to move on and experience a new adventure. "There have been numerous clubs approach Atalanta in the past and I have previously always stayed loyal. "However, myself and the ownership of the club have been in agreement that now is the right time and the club were clear with me that if a fair offer came in they would allow me to move. "Despite now receiving an offer in alignment to what I believe had been discussed sadly the club are blocking the opportunity for reasons I do not understand. "As a result and after many months of broken promises and what I feel has been poor treatment towards me as both a human being and as a professional footballer, sadly I feel I have no choice but to speak out for what I believe is right and feel that enough is enough. "I can confirm I have now handed in a formal transfer request. Even throughout the extremely difficult moments I've endured, many of which have remained private and confidential, I have always tried to put the club, the fans and the team first and hoped it would not get to this, but I unfortunately feel there is now little choice. "To the fans - the heartbeat of this club - I want to say this: I'm truly sorry it's come to this. "I hope you can understand this incredibly difficult situation. It's simply about standing up for what I believe is fair and right. "The support you have always given me has been incredible and the bond we have created together is special. With love and gratitude, Ademola.' Arsenal were interested in Lookman earlier in the summer but they looked at other targets. Inter had a £35m bid for Lookman turned down last month but they expected this latest offer to be accepted. 2
