Special charity golf day being held next week

A charity golf day will be held next week with those taking part hoping to raise thousands for a charity they have supported for the last decade.
With 32 golfers taking part in the first charitable day organised by GBSS Civil Engineering Ltd the hope is to raise a four figure sum for The Catherine McEwan Foundation. This is a charity which supports those affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease, set up in 2003 by Derek McEwan, in memory of his late mother, Catherine.
Providing a range of non-clinical support services, including wellness programmes, scholarship programmes, and community days, The Catherine McEwan Foundation additionally provides mental health support for both children and adults.
Since 2015, GBSS has attended the charity's annual fundraiser, The Red Hot Ball, which the foundation holds in Glasgow to raise vital funds. This year the company took the decision to increase its support for the charity by staging its first ever Charity Golf Day at the local golf club, Glenbervie.
Derek McEwan will attend to offer his support and encouragement to the golfers taking part, a mix of GBSS staff, suppliers, customers, and friends, together with friends and supporters of the charity.
Managing Director of GBSS, David Owens, said;' It's not long now until the first ball will be teed off at inaugural charity golf day. We're all really looking forward to this event, and having encouraged our staff golfers to get involved in teams, we'd like to offer our thanks to everyone taking part, plus the management and staff at Glenbervie. We really appreciate everyone's support, and it's great that Derek is coming along himself too.'
'We can promise a fun filled day, with prizes.'
Derek McEwan said: 'I can't thank the guys at GBSS enough for staging this fantastic event, in aid of The Catherine McEwan Foundation, which has now grown to complete some pretty significant impactful work across Scotland. GBSS has always been a fantastic supporter of the Red Hot Ball for many years too, always taking a table, but they really have gone the extra mile by staging the golf day. I'm sure it will be a fantastic success, and I look forward to being there on the day.'
Founded in 2009, and based in the heart of Central Scotland, GBSS Civil Engineering Ltd services a range of industry leading clients, of all sizes, across Scotland and Northern England, in sectors including education, health, infrastructure, leisure, retail and residential.

Kate Middleton left Wimbledon's Centre Court 'in tears' after 'courageous' act

Kate's appearance at the Men's Singles Final at Wimbledon in 2024 could have offered solace to others, a Royal biographer said. Princess Kate Middleton was moved to tears upon her arrival at Wimbledon's Centre Court for the 2024 Men's Singles Final. The Princess had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed cancer diagnosis throughout the first half of the year prior to making this public appearance. ‌ During this period, Kate had maintained a deliberately low profile, though Royal biographer Robert Jobson reveals in his book Catherine, the Princess of Wales: The Biography that she recognised how her public presence could offer solace to others. ‌ Robert suggests this understanding may have influenced her decision to attend Wimbledon - not merely due to her passion for tennis, but because of the symbolic significance her attendance would carry. ‌ "The world would also have intermittent glimpses of the steely inner strength of the Princess of Wales as the year continued," he noted. "At the same time, she was equally aware of the reassurance and comfort that she could provide to those in a similar predicament," reports Wales Online. "On the afternoon of 14 July, the 15,000 spectators packed inside Wimbledon's Centre Court rose as one to welcome the Princess to the Men's Singles Final of the tennis championships. Many in the crowd were in tears. "It was not just the shy smile on the face of the tennis-loving Princess, thrilled to be at one of her favourite events, that set them off. It was also the fact that a beaming nine-year-old Princess Charlotte was at her side." Kate has since finished her chemotherapy treatment and has begun making additional public outings. ‌ However, specifics regarding her cancer diagnosis haven't been revealed. The Duchess of Cambridge attended this year's Women's and Men's Singles Final of the competition, joined by Prince William and kids Prince George and Princess Charlotte. ‌ Before this, there had been speculation about her attendance at this year's Wimbledon fixtures, with suggestions she may skip the Women's Final should a player from Belarus or Russia look set to triumph. Russia remains engaged in conflict with Ukraine, a British ally, whilst Belarus supports Russia - creating a delicate situation should a member of the Royal Family present silverware to a competitor from either nation. Beyond the tennis tournament, attention has turned to Kate's nutrition, with the Princess reportedly incorporating a £1.48 superfood into her daily routine that could help combat inflammation. ‌ The superfood being discussed is blueberries, a berry thought to provide numerous wellness advantages. Discussing their effects, Dr Federica Amati explained: " Blueberries are touted as a superfood that we should be consuming every day. The evidence is really good - blueberries are a great fruit to add to your daily diet. "But it's important to remember that we need a diversity of plants, so enjoy your blueberries, but make sure they're not the only fruit you're eating." Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! True Centre Court royalty! The Waleses lead jubilant Wimbledon fans as they are met with thunderous applause as they make their way to the men's final

The Prince and Princess of Wales were met with a warm welcome from the crowd as they arrived at the Wimbledon men's final this afternoon alongside two of their children. The couple brought Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, 10, to watch the final while their youngest, seven-year-old Prince Louis, was not in attendance. Princess Catherine beamed as she wowed in a royal blue gown, while her mini-me daughter smiled and gestured to people below as the family crossed the bridge headed towards the court. George and his lookalike father William also grinned and waved as they walked behind Kate and Charlotte. as the family walked over the bridge towards the court to watch the men's final between Carlos Alcaraz and Janick Sinner. George and Charlotte were dressed in their Sunday best as they arrived in SW19 - with the Princess sporting a pretty cream frock with black piping. Meanwhile, George looked smart in a dark suit and tie, while his lookalike father sported white trousers and a blue jacket. Mother-of-three Kate has been patron of the All England Lawn and Tennis Club, also known as the AELTC (which organises the day-to-day running of the prestigious tournament), since 2016. While she has brought George and Charlotte to the sporting event, Louis, who is known for his cheeky antics during spectator events, was absent. Louis, who turned seven in April, last delighted royal fans with his funny facial expressions and adorable beaming smile, showing off his new adult front teeth, at Trooping the Colour in June. The Princess looked radiant in a blue dress as she arrived at the All England Club for the second consecutive day this afternoon - after presenting the trophy at the women's final on Saturday. Kate also wore her ' Wimbledon bow' - a brooch featuring the tournament's iconic colours - which it's believed she has worn every time she has visited Wimbledon. She debuted her green and purple bow back in 2017, when she paired it with a white, short-sleeved dress. More than just a mere accessory, the Princess' go-to Wimbledon brooch is actually a symbol of royal patronage, gifted to her from the Queen Elizabeth II. The women's 2025 final saw Iga Swiatek beat Amanda Asiminova 6-0, 6-0 in a match that lasted just under an hour. Kate appeared overwhelmed upon arrival at the Royal Box on Centre Court and was welcomed by a huge chorus of cheers and a standing ovation. It was reminiscent of the reception she received last year, when she chose the tennis tournament as her first solo outing after taking time away from public duty while being treated for cancer. Today's final sees Jannik Sinner take on Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz - of whom Princess Charlotte is known to be a fan. Charlotte delighted fans last year with her animated reactions as she watched her favourite player win the coveted trophy. Throughout the nail-biting match, the young royal winced, cheered, and beamed, as she watched the players compete for the prestigious title. Kate took over the role of patron in 2016 from the late Queen who had held the position for 64 years. The accessory is worn by members of the Committee of Management during the Fortnight - the Main Board of the AELTC and representatives of the LTA. It signifies their responsibilities as the Committee governing the tournament. The Princess of Wales beamed as she arrived at the All England Club for the men's Wimbledon final this afternoon Prince William, Catherine Princess of Wales, Prince George and Princess Charlotte arriving at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships today The Patron has always traditionally been given a Committee bow in recognition of her role, which is why the Duchess has chosen to wear it when visiting The Championships. Other individuals also given an honorary Committee bow are the Chief Executive. The present colours of dark green and purple were introduced in 1909 as the club's previous colours, blue, yellow, red and green, were too similar to those of the Royal Marines. The royal was praised for her Wimbledon outing yesterday, after she consoled the tearful runner-up Amanda Asiminova who was thrashed by Iga Swiatek in the most one-sided Wimbledon final since 1911. Kate placed her hand on the American's arm and told her to 'keep your head high' following the 23-year-old's 6-0, 6-0 loss on Centre Court in just 57 minutes. Anisimova had to briefly leave the court following her humbling at the hands of an inspired Swiatek, 24, as she recorded a double bagel scoreline in the women's final - the first in 114 years and for only the second time in the tournament's history. Anisimova said meeting Kate 'was the positive of today' and told how she had been 'really kind'. Speaking after the match, she said: 'It was such an honour to meet her. 'I wasn't sure if she was going to come out today, if she was going to be there, so it's just really nice to see her. 'She definitely had a few things to say that were making me emotional again.' A tearful Anisimova wiped away tears during her post-match interview on court as she praised Swiatek and said she had 'run out of gas a bit today'. She was playing in her first Wimbledon final and said 'she would never forget this experience'. Anisimova broke down again as she mentioned how her mother had flew in from America that morning to watch her. 'Thank you for being here and breaking the superstition of not flying in - it isn't why I lost here,' she joked. Anisimova: 'I know I didn't have enough today but I will keep putting in the work and I hope to be back here one day.' A victorious Swiatek, the first Polish woman to win Wimbledon, also offered words of encouragement to Anisimova. 'First I want to congratulate Amanda for an amazing two weeks. You should be proud of the work you are doing and I hope we will play more finals her,'' she said. 'I didn't even dream, for me it was way too far. I feel like I am already an experienced player after winning the Slams before but I never expected this one. 'This year I really, really enjoyed it and feel I improved my form here. 'I am always going to remember the opening of champagne bottles between serves! It is a sound that will keep me away at night!' The only ever time there has been a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline in a Grand Slam final was in 1988 when Steffi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva in the French Open. For her appearance yesterday, Kate donned a custom Self-Portrait white ensemble. The two-piece outfit featured a high collared, military-style belted top and a flowing midi skirt. Kate has worn designs from Self-Portrait on a number of occasions, including a 2023 Wimbledon appearance, where she wore a similar two-piece outfit, but that time, in green. She finished the ensemble with a pair of Gianvito Rossi suede slingback heeled pumps in cream, and Anya Hindmarch's Neeson Small Square Tote bag in cream, which retails for £950. Her jewellery included a gold Halcyon Days bracelet and Cartier earrings. She also gave a sweet nod to her husband Prince William, wearing what appeared to be her Cartier Bleu watch, which Prince William gave her as an anniversary gift in 2014. Last year also saw Carlos Alcaraz in the final, which he won, beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets. After leaving the court following the trophy ceremony, the princess and Alcaraz had a conversation in a room inside the tournament's main stadium. 'You played so well,' Kate told him. 'Enjoy the win.'

Kate Middleton fans all have same reaction after Wimbledon standing ovation

Kate, The Princess of Wales, was greeted by a standing ovation from the crowd as she took her seat in the royal box at Wimbledon to watch the women's singles final Princess Kate, the patron of All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, graced Wimbledon's women's singles final on Saturday, July 12, marking her first appearance at the tournament this year. The Princess of Wales, an avid tennis enthusiast, was met with a standing ovation as she joined the Royal box alongside tennis greats Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova to watch Iga Swiatek's stunning 6-0 6-0 victory over Amanda Anisimova. The touching tribute to Catherine at Wimbledon was shared by TikTok user @theroyaleurope who posted: "Catherine, The Princess of Wales receives a standing ovation from the huge crowd at Wimbledon today [July 12]. The Princess looked overjoyed by the huge cheers for her today! It's so nice to finally see her at Wimbledon again today." ‌ ‌ As ever, the Princess' impeccable fashion choice impressed royal fans. Her outfit featured a crisp pale Self-Portrait dress, coupled with a chic Anya Hindmarch tote bag, Gianvito Rossi suede pumps, and complemented by delicate hoop earrings and a bow pin, signifying her patronage status. But it was Princess Kate's charmed reaction to the standing ovation that left royal fans all saying the same thing - that she will be an amazing future queen. "When she is Queen and William King, our country will be incredible!", exclaimed one enthusiast. Another admirer chimed in: "We love you and we can't wait for you to be our true Queen." ‌ A third shared: "Our future Queen right there. "She is going to be a fantastic Queen, I can't wait," said another adoring fan. With heartfelt admiration, another social media user expressed: "She is our future. I adore her,". One follower remarked simply: "I love how she still gets a little overwhelmed by the love shown to her." ‌ While someone else commented: "People, including myself, just adore her. She just brings joy." This marked Kate's first public engagement since she cancelled her appearance at Ascot last month, an event she was reportedly sorry to miss. But followers were thrilled to see her at Wimbledon, marking yet another appearance in the series of Royal events she's attended since becoming William's wife in 2011. Returning to the spotlight after suffering from cancer, Kate has been gradually resuming public duties. At Wimbledon, she was consoled by Lydia Lowe, a courageous eight year old who has faced her own health battles. The young girl, having sustained a brain injury in January 2024 that left her visually impaired and relearning basic actions like walking, talking, and eating, encouraged Kate with the words: "Don't be nervous, take deep breaths".
