Tragic update on out-of-control car driven by 91-year-old woman which ploughed into pedestrians
The car, which was driven by a 91-year-old woman, mounted the kerb near a playground on Coleman Road in Wantirna South about 12.20pm on Thursday.
Three members of the same family - a 59-year-old grandmother, her 60-year-old partner, and their two-year-old grandson - were walking in the same direction as the car when they were struck from behind.
The grandmother, who was a local resident, died at the scene.
The grandfather had been transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries but Victoria Police confirmed on Friday evening that he had died.
Their young grandson was rushed to The Royal Children's Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The reserve and damaged park bench where the car ended up were cordoned off on Friday, while several bouquets of flowers were laid on the nearby footpath.
The 'terribly shaken' elderly driver escaped with minor scratches and was taken to hospital for assessment and blood testing.
Police said the 91-year-old is yet to be interviewed.
The investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the collision remains ongoing.
It is understood the driver collided with a street sign and struck the pedestrians before her car ploughed through a fence and came to a stop near the playground.
'It came from behind,' Superintendent Justin Goldsmith said.
'It looks like it has lost control about 40m or 50m before the collision with the people who were walking on the other side of that road.
'No one was hit at the park thankfully.'
A local resident told Sunrise on Friday that lollies and pieces of orange were scattered across her front yard following the collision, along with debris from the crash.
Supt Goldsmith said it was too early to say whether the driver had suffered a medical episode when she lost control.
Crash investigators will examine whether speed was a contributing factor.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, has dashcam footage or information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
'That will be subject to the investigation, but it is a downhill section of road, so if there has been a lack of control to some degree there is a possibility the car would have picked up speed as it's driven further down Coleman Road,' Supt Goldsmith said.
It comes after CCTV emerged of the out-of-control car travelling along Coleman Road moments before the collision.
The footage also showed a couple pushing a pram along a footpath. It is unclear if the group was the same trio who were hit.
The crash happened during the first week of the Victorian school holidays and brought the state's road toll to 14 lives lost in the last seven days.
'We're facing a horrific month for road trauma,' Supt Goldsmith said.
'We've lost so many lives and had so many life-threatening injuries over the course of last week (and it) is completely horrific and unacceptable.'

Deceitful trick married men are using to bamboozle OnlyFans models
A popular adult star has revealed how some men are now posing as women online in order to trick OnlyFans models into giving them exclusive content for free. Layla Kelly said that she's noticed an uptick in men pretending to be women by using photos that they've obtained without permission. Speaking to about the shocking trend, Kelly said that these men will try to disarm creators by using a fake female persona. They'll then pretend that they're interested in getting plastic surgery or a medical procedure in order to obtain exclusive, explicit content. In some cases, men are using intimate photos of women that they know in real life to create their fake female alter-egos. 'Where it crosses the line is when someone who hasn't consented or given permission is having their identity and photos used unknowingly, especially given that this is a very intimate platform,' she explained. 'Often nude images are used too and these women have no idea. It's so wrong,' Kelly added. Kelly went on to say that some men are even using IDs and photos from their own wives and girlfriends to scam OnlyFans stars. 'What bothers me most about this is the clothed and unclothed images of the women they are using when pulling this sneaky act,' Banks said. 'One guy even sent me a wedding photo paired with a driving licence and I knew it had to be his wife or his sister. Either way, I highly doubt she knew what he was up to,' she added. When it comes to OnlyFans scams, it's a two-way street. Many popular OnlyFans creators now hire third-party companies to run their accounts, who provide 'chatters' to handle all of the creator's private messages. So while subscribers may think that they're chatting directly to the models, they could be speaking to absolutely anybody. One professional chatter hired by popular OnlyFans models is a 27-year-old man from Venezuela. With the large amount of subscribers that popular creators have and the amount of money they're raking in, it's no surprise that many models have turned to third-party companies to run their pages. Reality star and OnlyFans creator Farrah Abraham recently revealed that she makes seven figures from her page.

Schoolgirl, 15, hit & killed by ‘show off' driver months after she had life-saving kidney transplant
A SCHOOLGIRL has been killed by a "show off" driver just months after receiving a life-saving kidney transplant. Keely Morgan, 15, was pronounced dead at the scene in Caerau, Cardiff after being fatally struck on a pedestrian crossing. 7 7 7 Christopher West, 42, was driving his two daughters and their friend when he hit the schoolgirl at about 9:30pm on 1 May 2023. Now, over two years later, Keely's parents have revealed their "incredible" daughter had received a life-saving kidney transplant just months before she was tragically killed. West admitted to killing the teenager at Cardiff Magistrates' Court in May, where it was also heard that the dad had been driving between 32 and 42mph on a road with a 30mph limit. After hitting the girl, West was arrested and questioned by police who also performed a drugs and alcohol test on the driver. Both test results came out negative. Judge Murphy granted the dad conditional bail and told him not to make any contact - direct or indirect - with Keely's family or to enter certain areas in Caerau. He has also been banned from driving until his sentencing. A sentencing hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday heard that West had been driving a "little fast" and had been "snaking" his Vauxhall Astra. The court also heard the dad turned to his daughters and said: "Shall I remove the black box?" before driving from Barry Island to Ely. His daughter said her dad had been "showing off" on the drive. Billionaire airline CEO's wife 'runs down and kills babysitter, 24, crossing road before FLEEING holiday island' Kevin Seal, representing West, said his client had shown genuine remorse for causing the teenager's death, adding that he would have to live with the grief and regret for the rest of his life. The court also heard a number of emotional statements read by Keely's family including from her mum, Sian Morgan. Sian said her daughter had been given a "second chance of life" aged 13 and had fought "so hard" to live a normal life. The tragedy of her "preventable" death will haunt her forever, she continued. 7 7 In a victim statement, she said: "She fought so hard to have the opportunity to live a normal life and have the joys of being a teenager. "She remained brave, courageous, and positive, but those dreams have been cruelly taken from her in an instant. "She'll never be able to finish school, go to university, follow her dreams, experience the joys and the milestones of life. "She had so much love to give. She was truly an incredible person with promise and a future ahead of her." The young girl's devastated parents described the tragedy as "beyond repair" and a loss they will carry for the rest of their lives. Sian said: "Every day I wake up and relive a nightmare. Her loss ripples through every part of our lives. Her life mattered. Her death must mean something. No sentence will ever bring her back. Sian Morgan "My heart aches every day for my daughter who I can no longer hug or see the incredible person she could have been. "The world is a darker place without her. The trauma of losing her in a sudden, violent, but preventable way haunts us." She added: "This was totally avoidable. That one decision, that one moment, took everything from us. "A pedestrian crossing is meant to protect people like Keely who was using the crossing appropriately as she had a right to do so but she was struck and killed. "Her life was taken by the drastic failure of you and you alone. You had a duty to uphold fundamental safety laws of being safe while driving and you chose not to do so. "She was an irreplaceable part of my life and her family loved her more than words can say. "Her life mattered. Her death must mean something. No sentence will ever bring her back." Sentencing has been adjourned until July 17 at Cardiff Crown Court. 7 7

BREAKING NEWS Mark Latham denies shocking abuse claims from former partner - including accusations he forced her into degrading sexual acts
Explosive new court documents allege NSW independent MP Mark Latham pressured his former partner into 'degrading' sexual acts, including making her call him 'master', as well as driving his car at her and 'defecating on her before sex'. A domestic violence order filed in the NSW Local Court accuses Mr Latham of subjecting ex-partner Nathalie May Matthews to 'a sustained pattern' of psychological, financial, and emotional abuse over almost three years, according to details seen by The Australian. Mr Latham denied the claims on Monday. 'Nothing has been served on me nor has anyone contacted me,' he told The Australian. 'I haven't had anything to do with her (Ms Matthews) since 27 May, so nearly seven weeks ago. I ended the "situationship" that night for very good reason.' He followed up his statement with a post on social media. 'The Australian newspaper has published a story based on allegations from Nathalie Matthews which are comically false and ridiculous. 'I have scores of documents to show that and will rely upon them to defend myself. As the old saying goes, Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.' Ms Matthews has applied for an interim order barring Mr Latham from coming within 100m, citing 'ongoing, reasonable fear of harassment, intimidation, and potential harm'. Her application accuses the former Labor leader of throwing a dinner plate at her, forcing her to call him 'master', and pressuring her to have sex with others. Ms Matthews' filing also alleges Mr Latham prevented her from cleaning up after 'defecating on me before sex' and 'telling me I was his property, and repeatedly telling me that my only value to him was for sex to demean and control me'. Ms Matthews also alleged 'physical violence' incidents, including 'pushing me against walls, forcing me out the door, throwing a plate at me during an argument, and driving at me with his vehicle, hitting me with the side mirror and causing a bruise'. Mr Latham is further accused of 'systematically undermining' Ms Matthews to 'control and isolate' her by comparing her 'unfavourably to other women, acting as if he would harm himself to manipulate me'. Ms Matthews accuses Mr Latham of forcing her to cover the cost of holidays abroad 'under duress', making her purchase expensive goods, and coercing her about her father's will for his benefit. She claims 'constant fear and hypervigilance' since her arrival home from a June trip abroad, alleging all past break-ups with Mr Latham featured a repeated 'pattern of harassment and intimidation'. She alleges: 'The defendant has held intimate photos and videos of me, and I have been afraid he would expose them to shame and control me if I attempted to leave or resist his demands.' Ms Matthews made the application herself, with NSW Police neither charging Mr Latham or seeking an order on her behalf. The matter will be up at heard at Downing Centre Local Court on 30 July.
