Bengals sign four of their six draft picks
The team announced that offensive guard Dylan Fairchild, linebacker Barrett Carter, offensive tackle Jalen Rivers and halfback Tahj Brooks are under contract.
The Bengals made Fairchild a third-round pick (81st overall) out of Georgia. He played 34 games with 24 starts in four seasons, with each of his starts coming the past two years.
He earned both second-team All-America and second-team All-Southeastern Conference honors in 2024 when he started all 14 games.
Carter was selected in the fourth round (119th overall) out of Clemson. In 52 games, with 40 starts, over four seasons, he recorded 233 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 12.5 sacks, 24 passes defensed, three interceptions and two forced fumbles.
He was voted a team captain for the 2024 season and garnered first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference and third-team All-America recognition.
Rivers was taken in the fifth round (153rd overall) out of the University of Miami. He appeared in 39 career games with 30 starts, primarily lining up at left tackle.
He was named second-team All-ACC in 2023, then received honorable mention in '24. Rivers started eight games at left tackle last season and blocked for an offense that led the nation both in yards per game (537.2) and points per game (43.9).
Brooks was a sixth-round pick (193rd overall) out of Texas Tech. He played 56 games, with 34 starts, in five seasons and rushed 879 times for 4,557 yards and 45 touchdowns.
He set Texas Tech career records for rushing attempts, yards and 100-yard games (23), while ranking third in school history in rushing touchdowns and total TDs (47). He was first-team All-Big 12 in 2023 and earned second-team honors in '24.

Liberty will look far different this time around for rematch with Storm
We've got you covered on the Liberty beat Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Madeline Kenney about all things Liberty and WNBA. tRY IT NOW The Liberty team that will take the floor Sunday against the Storm is not the same team that lost in Seattle last month. At the time, the Liberty were down three starters, including Sabrina Ionescu, who was a late scratch because of a neck issue. Advertisement With only nine active players, the Liberty had to mix and match lineup combinations. They registered a season-high 21 turnovers and missed several layups. But the Liberty managed to hang around the Storm for most of the game. 'What we have to take away from that Seattle game is that we were actually still very much within the game with losing three starters. We dropped the ball at the end,' forward Isabelle Harrison said Saturday. 'Obviously, Seattle is still a very good team. But we know how we can play.' Sabrina Ionescu missed the Liberty's first game against the Storm. Getty Images Advertisement The way coach Sandy Brondello sees it, the Storm didn't change over the two weeks. But the Liberty have. For starters, Leonie Fiebich is back from EuroBasket, and the kink in Ionescu's neck has been resolved. With the Liberty near full strength, execution will be key Sunday. They needs to shore up their pick-and-roll defense and prevent Nneka Ogwumike from getting into rhythm. They also must take better care of the ball. Advertisement Leonie Fiebich us back from EuroBasket. IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect Breanna Stewart said the Liberty also need to simplify their offense at times. 'We put ourselves in way too many step-up situations, knowing that they're trapping a lot and having a better outlet for those that are in traps and not overcomplicating it,' Stewart said. 'Similar to the last game against the Sparks, it's like taking what the defense gives us, not overcomplicating it.' Advertisement Jonquel Jones is getting 'better and better everyday,' but Brondello doesn't anticipate Jones to be back before the All-Star break, which is July 18-19. Jones has been on the mend over the past two-plus weeks since she aggravated a right ankle sprain. The Liberty initially announced June 21 that Jones would be out for approximately four to six weeks. But as Jones progresses, Brondello believes the reigning WNBA Finals MVP should be ready toward the earlier side of the team's initial projection. 'We still want [to look at the] big picture. Trying to get her build up,' Brondello said. 'So if we can get her back after All-Star break, that's still a win, isn't it? Because it was supposed to be in August.' Brondello didn't think there was a chance she would be coaching at the All-Star Game this season. The Liberty were third in the standings entering Thursday, and the second-place Mercury were playing the Wings. Advertisement After New York beat the Sparks, Brondello and the rest of her team were surprised to find out that the Mercury lost to the Wings. 'We weren't really planning on it,' Ionescu said. 'After the game, I was like, 'Oh my gosh. Sandy's coaching. Pack your bags, you're going to Indy.'' This will be Brondello's third time as head coach for the All-Star Game and first since 2018.

Shohei Ohtani wows early, but Dodgers' bullpen falters in loss to Astros
The Dodgers' starting pitcher had no problems on Saturday afternoon. It was the bulk guy who followed him who ran into issues. In a 6-4 loss to the Houston Astros at Dodger Stadium, Shohei Ohtani showed more encouraging signs as a pitcher, throwing two scoreless innings that included a double-play in the first and a strikeout of the side in the second. But, in a reminder of the still-tenuous pitching depth the Dodgers have relied on for much of this first half, long man Justin Wrobleski came back down to earth in a five-run, 4 ⅔-inning outing thereafter, sending the team to a defeat that clinched a series loss to the Astros. In the big picture, this weekend has offered hope for the Dodgers' long-term pitching plans. On Friday, manager Dave Roberts said injured $136.5 million right-hander Tyler Glasnow is on track to return from his shoulder problem during next week's road trip. Before Saturday's game, injured $182 million left-hander Blake Snell threw his second live batting practice of the week, striking out four of the eight hitters he faced in what is expected to be his final simulated session before going on a minor-league rehab assignment. Both he and injured reliever Blake Treinen, who also threw an inning of live batting practice Saturday, are lined up to be activated from the IL 'at some point in time shortly after the All-Star break,' per Roberts. Then there was Ohtani, who despite once again being limited to a short workload in his fourth pitching start of the season, was also once again dominant in a 31-pitch display. After Isaac Paredes singled to lead off the game, Ohtani broke Cam Smith's bat on a 96 mph fastball for a double-play grounder to second. In the second inning, Ohtani fanned Christian Walker with a slider, then Victor Caratini and Yainer Díaz on a pair of big-breaking sweepers — all while also touching 101 mph on the radar gun. In his six total innings this year, Ohtani has given up just one run, one walk and four hits while striking out six batters on what was his 31st birthday. And though it remains unclear exactly when he'll be fully stretched out — or exactly how built up he will eventually get this year, coming off a second career Tommy John surgery — the Dodgers are inching steadily closer to having the rotation they envisioned this year: One with Ohtani, Snell and Glasnow joining likely All-Star Yoshinobu Yamamoto in a star-studded quartet the club has spent lavishly the last two offseasons to build. 'We can see a little squint of light,' Roberts said. 'It's taken a little longer than we've all expected or hoped for, as far as getting our guys together. So we haven't gotten there yet. But we're hopeful and excited.' In the short term, however, the Astros have put a dent in the optimism the club had clung to among its stable of young pitching depth. After Ben Casparius was knocked around in a historic blowout on Friday night, Wrobleski suffered a similar fate against Houston's surging lineup. Upon entering the game at the start of the third, he quickly blew an early 2-0 Dodgers lead, giving up a leadoff single to Cooper Hummel and back-to-back two-strike doubles to Mauricio Dubón (who fouled off fastball after fastball before whacking a full-count heater the other way) and Zack Short (who got three-straight off-speed pitches, pulling the last one down the third-base line to score two runs). Miguel Rojas, tapped to play third base Saturday in place of the recently injured Max Muncy, made matters worse by misfiring on a tough throw to first on a soft ground ball from Smith with one out, allowing a run to score. Then Walker, an unlikely Dodgers killer over his career, lined a two-out single to right to make it a four-run inning, and a 4-2 Astros lead. Wrobleski did eventually settle down, but not before Díaz homered at the start of the third to put the Astros up there. That deficit proved insurmountable for the Dodgers. They made it 5-4 when Rojas homered in the fourth (he also had an RBI single in the second inning, and drew a walk in the fifth) but stranded a string of opportunities down the stretch, finishing the day one-for-five with runners in scoring position and with nine men left on base.
