Peak District walks with 'breathtaking scenery' among UK's must-visit valley trails

Yahoo25-05-2025
Two walking routes in the Peak District have been named among the UK's must-visit valley walks.
Outdoor experts at GO Outdoors have revealed the top 10 UK valleys to visit this summer, using AllTrails reviews and Google search data to come up with the list.
Dovedale Stepping Stones Circular in Dovedale and Castleton and Cave Dale in Cave Dale have been named among the must-visit valleys for this summer.
See what GO Outdoors had to say about each walking route.
GO Outdoors considered a few factors when coming up with its ranking, including the number of reviews on AllTrails and the rating given on the walking site (scored out of five), trail distance (km) and an overall score out of 10.
Dovedale Stepping Stones Circular is a 5km route and has 403 AllTrails reviews and a rating of 4.6. Its overall score from GO Outdoors is 7.2.
The Castleton and Cave Dale walk is slightly longer at 5.5km and it has 469 AllTrails reviews with a rating of 4.4. Its overall score issued by GO Outdoors is 5.97.
Located near Ashbourne, AllTrails says the Dovedale Stepping Stones Circular route is 'moderately challenging' and takes an hour and 32 minutes to complete, on average.
It added: 'Parking is free in a lay-by, followed by a small walk down the road before getting into the fields to start.
'The path leads across stepping stones over River Dove, then up the steep hill of Thorpe Cloud to a beautiful viewpoint. The river can be tough to cross certain times of year, so come prepared.'
The Castleton and Cave Dale walk is an 'out-and-back' route near Castleton and takes an average of one hour and 56 minutes to complete.
All Trails said ramblers can expect 'breaktaking scenery' when looking at the limestone cliffs.
It added: 'This is a lovely trail exploring Castleton and taking you through the beautiful limestone valley of Cave Dale in the Peak District National Park.'
Sam Chadwick, blog author and outdoor enthusiast at GO Outdoors, said: 'When visiting valleys, it is best to wear comfortable and supportive footwear as there is often uneven terrain.

'On more difficult hikes, such as Coire Gabhail, it may be a good idea to take supportive equipment such as walking poles.
'This will help you stay steady on your feet and make the experience of tougher hikes more enjoyable.
'It is always important to check how you feel throughout any walk. If you feel out of breath, or that a walk is too hard, turn back.'

Why Jet2's Jingle Became TikTok's Surprise Summer Travel Meme

Jet2's viral TikTok moment highlights the unpredictable power of nostalgia and remix culture, where even the most mundane creative assets can supercharge brand awareness. British travel company Jet2 is having a viral moment many marketers could only dream of. The firm, known for its family-friendly package holidays and vacation flights, has found itself at the center of a TikTok storm. A years-old advertising jingle, featuring Jess Glynne's 2015 hit 'Hold My Hand,' has been repurposed as the unofficial social media soundtrack to summer 2025. What started as a fairly standard example of British online humor has become a global megatrend. The international phenomenon is particularly curious given Jet2's route network is focused on the UK market. The company caters almost exclusively to outbound British leisure travelers, meaning most of the world has little familiarity, let alone loyalty with the brand. Why Has the Jet2 Ad Gone Viral? The simplicity of the 'Nothing beats a Jet2 Holiday' messaging, combined with Glynne's catchy pop beat, has made it ripe for a Gen Z remix. Global TikTok creators are embracing travel schadenfreude, with vacation fails set to the infectiously cheery voiceo

List of Nottingham Beach 2025 food, drinks and ride prices

Nottingham Beach is back and typically after a mini heatwave it's grey and raining. The weather forecast over the next few days is pretty dire but hopefully it won't be too long before the sun puts in an appearance again in time for the school holidays. It can be a costly time for parents but at least there is some good news for those visiting the beach. The majority of prices for food, drinks and rides remain the same as last year. The 2025 seaside in Old Market Square has all the traditional seaside favourites you'd expect from fish and chips to ice creams. To help you budget ahead of visiting this year, here's our round-up of what you could be spending. READ MORE: Two of Nottingham's best restaurants named in Good Food Guide's top 100 - one charges £15 a head READ MORE: New vegetarian and vegan restaurant and takeaway Vegalante opens on busy Nottingham main road There's no charge for the sandy beach and paddling pool. Organisers the Mellors Group say it is the profits from the rides and food and drink that that allow them to keep it free of charge. Whether it's Skeggy, Mablethorpe or Nottingham, what's the seaside without the enticing waft of vinegary fish and chips? The price hasn't risen since last year, so once again visitors will pay £8. It's the same for a jumbo and sausage and chips, costing £7. There's a slight price hike on some of the other items. A Southern fried chicken burger is now £6 and a bacon burger £7. A fish finger cob in a brioche bun is £6. Kids meals are also available from the van that's located near the bar. Chicken nuggets or fish fingers and chips are both a fiver. The cheapest hot food at the beach is a portion of chips here for £3. For a fiver you can have cheese, gravy, curry or Mexican bean chilli. If it's not fish and chips, it's got to be a burger at the seaside. A quarter pounder at the Grill House will set you back a fiver which is exactly the same as last year. With cheese it's £5.50. The XXL triple cheeseburger has gone up by 50p to £8, as has a small hot dog which is now £4. A jumbo pork sausage remains £5. A portion of chips at this stall is £4, or £5 with the addition of curry sauce or cheese. Gluten-free chips and cheese are served, costing £5. Hot drinks are also sold and there's no difference in price whether you order a latte, Americano, espresso, mocha, hot chocolate or tea. All are £3. New this year is a stall with the perfect summer treat - fresh strawberries. Have them with chocolate for £6 or with cream or ice cream they're a fiver. Sundaes pimped up with Lotus Biscoff or Oreo are £5. In keeping with the current Dubai chocolate craze, you'll find a Dubai pistachio and chocolate covered strawberries for £7. The cheapest treat you can buy at the beach is an ice cream. A whippy cone is £2.50 or with a flake £3. With Oreo or Biscoff the price rises to £4. Soft scoop ice is slightly dearer at £3.50 for a single cone or tub. A waffle cone is £4. Extra toppings are available, with sprinkles and sauce both costing a further 30p each. An ice cream sundae is a fiver which is actually cheaper than last year. What's summer without some deep-fried sugary dough? You can have traditional doughnuts or do it the Spanish way with churros. Churros with sugar will set you back £7 for six or with Nutella the price is £8. With Oreo , Lotus Biscoff or white chocolate they're £8.50. Classic doughnuts are cheaper with four costing £5 or £6 with Nutella. A firm favourite, whether it's the beach or festive Winter Wonderland is the Greek gyros stall. The authentic chicken, halloumi or feta gyros are served on a warm flatbread with tzatziki and salad and it's quite a substantial feed for £9.50. For picky bits, the halloumi fries are £6 or skin-on-fries £4, both with a choice of dips such as tzatziki, sweet chilli, mayonnaise or sour cream. Anyone looking for a healthier option will find salad boxes with chicken, feta or halloumi for £9. There's no change here. Prices at Le Petite Creperie are exactly the same as last year. The freshly cooked crepes are made in front of your eyes in just a couple of minutes. A basic crepe costs £5 but for added interest the menu has a choice of a dozen different toppings, costing an extra £1 each. Choose from classic lemon and sugar, strawberries, white chocolate sauce mini marshmallows and maple syrup. The ever-popular bar has the same layout as last year with Santorini-inspired white and turquoise booths, swing seats and bean bags for lounging around in the sunshine. That's not all that's stayed the same. The majority of alcoholic and soft drink prices have been held for a second year. You can go to the Wetherspoon pub opposite and find them cheaper if you don't want to get into the spirit of the beach. A pint of Cruzcampo will set you back £6 or £3.50 for half. Inch's Cider is £5.50 a pint or £3 a half. Bottled Budweiser is £5 and Corona £5.50 or a bucket with six bottles is £27. Spirits (vodka, rum, gin, and Jack Daniels) rock up at £4.95 for a single and £6.95 a double, while wine starts at £5.75 for a small glass or £22.75 for a bottle of Pinot Grigio, Blush or Merlot. Cocktail lovers will find the likes of Aperol Spritz, Blue Lagoon, and Pimm's on offer for £8.95. In the mood for shots? Sambuca, Jungfrau and tequila are £3.50 each or four for £12. Soft drinks such as Coke, lemonade and orange juice at £2.25 for half or £3.50 a pint. The rides are one of the biggest attractions at the beach. For younger members of the family, there's a hot air balloon roundabout and bumper boats. For those with a head for heights, the 70m Starflyer is back, dominating the skyline in Old Market Square, and rising way above the Council House dome. The bungee trampoline and aqua zorbing in giant blow-up balls have returned too. You might remember the Yeti ride from the Winter Wonderland. It's back but the Abominable Snowman is now on summer vacation. The sand, padding pool and deckchairs are free. Giant noughts and crosses games next to the bar area are also free to play on. For a bit of fun the kids can work out their pirate name - look out for the sign next to the bumper boats. Nottingham Beach ride prices 2025: Bungee trampoline £5 Starflyer £4 Balloon ride £3 Formula One cars £3 Yeti Summer Vacation £4 Bumper boats £5 Water zorbing £5 Hook a duck with prize every time £5
