Hormel Foods Corporation is recalling more than 250,000 pounds of food that may contain pieces of wood, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) notice.
The recall, shared by FSIS on May 28, includes 20-ounce metal cans of "Dinty Moore Beef Stew" shipped to retail locations nationwide. The cans, which have "best buy" dates of Feb 2028, lot code 02045, and establishment number EST 199G, may contain fragments of "foreign material," specifically wood.
The 17,080 cases of recalled canned beef stew were produced on February 4, 2025, according to FSIS and Hormel Foods.

Isabelle's Kitchen, Inc. is recalling 946 cases of refrigerated deli salads due to potential Salmonella contamination from fresh cucumbers.
Salmonella can cause serious infections, especially in vulnerable individuals, leading to symptoms like fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
These recalled salads were sold to foodservice distributors and local supermarkets in New Hampshire, Florida, Maryland, South Carolina, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

McDonald's to test drinks from shuttering CosMc's spinoff at some restaurants
McDonald's is planning to test a new lineup of drinks inspired by its shuttering spinoff brand, CosMc's, at some restaurants later this summer. The fast food giant announced July 25 that roughly 500 select restaurants in some states will be part of an expanded market test for the drinks. The drinks will be aimed at "blending the best of CosMc's creativity with the convenience you know and love." A Multi-State Salmonella Outbreak Is Linked to These Frozen Beans — Are They in Your Freezer?
To date, there have been 11 confirmed illnesses across 10 states. The U.S. is experiencing a massive Salmonella outbreak, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) believes it has finally pinpointed the to the FDA, the outbreak was first identified in October 2024, following the first reported case of illness. The most recent individual to fall ill as part of the outbreak was on June 24. The FDA revealed on July 17 that the source of the outbreak is Chetak LLC's Deep-brand frozen sprouted mat (moth) beans and frozen sprouted moong (mung) beans. The agency identified the problem through routine sampling. "The product samples tested positive for Salmonella, and whole genome sequencing analysis determined that the Salmonella present in the samples matched the strain causing illnesses in this outbreak," the FDA added. It noted that, to date, 11 people have been reported ill in connection with the outbreak from 10 different states, including Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington. While most people infected with Salmonella recover without treatment, those with weakened immune systems, children, or the elderly are especially vulnerable to severe cases. Usually, symptoms appear within 12 to 72 hours after infection and can include diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps, according to the FDA. Though more severe cases of salmonellosis may involve a "high fever, aches, headaches, lethargy, a rash, blood in the urine or stool, and in some cases may become fatal." According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, "approximately 450 persons in the United States die each year from acute salmonellosis." FDA Announces Major Recall of Popular Chocolate Item
It's a good thing the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is staying on top of the latest recalls, because knowing about new recalls impacts people's lives. The sooner you find out about an item that falls under a recall, the quicker you can get rid of it and keep your friends and family safe. "A recall is a method of removing or correcting products that are in violation of laws administered by the Food and Drug Administration," the FDA notes. They add that a recall is a voluntary action taken by manufacturers and distributors to protect the health of the public and keep them away "from items that offer a "risk of injury or gross deception or are otherwise defective." Now, the FDA has announced a chocolate spread recall due to salmonella contamination. According to the Mayo Clinic, salmonellosis "is a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract." The clinic adds that most people "develop diarrhea, fever and stomach (abdominal) cramps within 8 to 72 hours after exposure." The Cleveland Clinic adds that "salmonella is an infection with salmonella bacteria that causes diarrhea, fever and stomach pains." The recall is for Dubai chocolate spread, which is sold nationwide. World Market recalled its Emek Spread Pistachio Cacao Cream with Kadayif sold from June 11 to July 9, according to a press release from the FDA. The spread's jar is labeled with "Dubai" and contains similar ingredients to the Dubai chocolate bar, but with kadayif and pistachio paste. The product was also packaged in clear glass jar with the date code stamped on the top of the lid. Now, the recall has been raised to a Class 1 alert, which means a "reasonable probability" that injecting the spread could cause serious illness or even death, according to the FDA. The recall was announced after samples of the food item tested positive for salmonella, the FDA added. The good news is that no illnesses have been reported so far.
