Open AI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini and Microsoft's Copilot: How is AI taking away our Drinking water? Read full story here
We all know and accept the fact that artificial intelligence (AI) has become a very important part of our lives. With being increasingly integrated into daily life, concerns are mounting over the environmental footprint of AI, which is particularly related to its growing consumption of water and electricity required to operate the massive data centers needed to run AI queries by apps like Open AI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini and Microsoft's Copilot.
As per a report by BBC Hindi, the expansion of AI technologies could intensify global water stress, especially in the face of climate change and its rising demand. It has been revealed by media reports that AI systems like ChatGPT rely on vast data centers that consume enormous energy and water for cooling. How AI is taking away your drinking water?
The reports have also revealed that a single AI query may use significantly more electricity, which will need more water for cooling, than a typical internet search. Proving the claim, International Energy Agency (IEA) has estimated that a query made on ChatGPT consumes about 10 times more electricity than a search made on Google search engine.
Studies also indicate that the AI industry could use 4–6 times more water annually than a country like Denmark by 2027. Also, companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Meta have reported major increases in water use with the increased use of AI. With many data centers being set up in drought-prone areas, the companies have also dealt with sparking protests and environmental backlash. What Sam Altman said on future of AI?
As AI begins to transform industries globally, ensuring that the benefits of AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) are broadly distributed is critical, according to OpenAI Co-founder and CEO Sam Altman.
The historical impact of technological progress suggests that most of the metrics we care about (health outcomes and economic prosperity, etc.) get better on average and over the long-term, but increasing equality does not seem technologically determined and getting this right may require new ideas, he emphasised in a new blog post.

Over 70 per cent of teachers use AI tools in classrooms: Survey
BENGALURU: As the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 marks its fifth anniversary, a new nationwide survey by the Centre for Teacher Accreditation (CENTA) has found that more than 70% of Indian teachers are already using AI tools in classrooms, with lesson planning identified as the most common application. The survey, which covered over 5,000 educators from across India, revealed that AI adoption is especially high among teachers with more than three years of experience. Nearly 75% cases are reportedly active. While 67% of teachers rated their AI expertise at 6 or higher on a 10-point scale, only 57% could correctly identify a basic AI misconception, highlighting a gap between perceived and actual understanding. The findings underscore the need for structured training programmes. 'AI is rapidly becoming part of the modern classroom, but there remains a clear gap between adoption and genuine comfort among teachers,' said Ramya Venkataraman, founder and CEO of CENTA. The survey also captured concerns about AI from a wider group, including parents and students. About 84% of respondents voiced apprehensions—23% about AI's accuracy and 34% about job displacement in education. Participants came from diverse backgrounds—teachers, school leaders, parents, and students—representing schools across different fee segments and regions, from no-fee government schools to high-fee private institutions.

Reddit surges as AI-driven ad strategy wins praise from Wall Street
Reddit's shares surged 15% on Friday after it reported quarterly results that exceeded Street expectations, boosting investor confidence in the platform's AI-based advertising tools and strong user engagement. The company has also posted a rosy forecast that comes on the heels of similarly upbeat results from ad industry leaders such as Meta and Alphabet, underscoring a broader sector shift as advertisers gravitate towards platforms that provide artificial-intelligence tools to create more personalised campaigns. The company expects third-quarter revenue of between $535 million and $545 million, well above analysts' average estimate of $473 million, according to data compiled by LSEG. Reddit's focus on understanding user intent through authentic community conversations positions it to unlock new monetisation opportunities, said Danni Hewson, head of financial analysis at AJ Bell. "Being able to home in on exactly the kind of consumer who might be open to splurge on what a seller is offering has made sites like Reddit hugely popular with advertisers," Hewson said. Reddit's results, along with those of Google and Meta, signal the ad industry's resilience in the face of growing economic uncertainty brought on by shifting U.S. trade policy. The company's diverse ad offerings, including ads inserting brands directly within conversations on its subreddit discussions, remain attractive to marketers. Reddit's daily active unique visitors increased 21%, with analysts saying stabilizing daily active user trends are bolstering investor confidence in the platform's "long-term growth narrative". Despite variable Google-driven traffic posing a headwind in the second quarter, Reddit's U.S. daily active users held steady, expressing confidence that the company's unique content was valuable to both Google and searchers, analysts at Piper Sandler said. The company has been investing in new products, search capabilities and international expansion to offset inconsistent user traffic. Reddit is currently valued at a premium compared to its peers, trading at 74.57 times its projected earnings over the next 12 months, well above Pinterest's 19.39 and Snap's 27.54. If gains hold, Reddit is set to add more than $4 billion to its market cap.
