Maalik Box Office Preview: Rajkummar Rao starrer run time, screen count, advance booking & opening day
The film is seeing an All-India release by Pen Marudhar, and the distributor is going wide for the Rajkummar Rao starrer, with a release planned on about 1500 screens. The advance bookings for Maalik opened on Wednesday noon, and the response has been lukewarm. As on Thursday at 5.30 PM, Maalik has sold about 4000 tickets in the top 3 national chains – PVRInox and Cinepolis – and is headed for a finish in the range of 10,000 tickets.
Given the advance bookings, Maalik is looking to open in the range of Rs 2.75 crore to Rs 3.25 crore, though the film could push itself to a slightly higher number if the mass belts come on board in spot bookings. Due to the genre, the Rajkummar Rao starrer does have a shot to record better walk-ups and hit the Rs 3.50 crore mark on Friday. If the reports from morning shows are not encouraging, the first day could be lower than the projected range too.
The film is facing competition from Superman, as also holdover films like Metro In Dino, Jurassic World: Rebirth, and F1. However, the genre and target audience is completely different, giving it a shot at getting an audience on board if the audience talk lands in its favour. A low start is likely for Maalik, and it's about how close it can get to the Rs 4 crore mark on Friday, laying a platform for better performance on Saturday and Sunday.
Unfortunately for Maalik, action films are usually frontloaded and hence, there's a lot for the film to make up for in the opening weekend, as the fate is now heavily dependent on the word of mouth. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates!

He described the film, released on July 11, as "the story of America," calling Superman "an immigrant that came from other places and populated the country." Superman, first created in 1933 by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, two teenage sons of Jewish immigrants from Cleveland, was originally conceived as a villain in a short story titled ' The Reign of the Superman.' A year later, they reimagined him as a hero fighting for justice. This new version of Superman made his official debut in Action Comics #1 in April 1938. The new film revisits Superman's moral dilemmas through a more adult lens. ‘Superman': Fans upset as CBFC cuts down 'sensual scenes' in James Gunn's movie
James Gunn's Superman is a fresh addition to the DC Universe. Released worldwide on July 11, 2025, the movie stars David Corenswet in the titular role. Fans of the popular superhero in India are upset to have watched an altered version on the big screen. Reports say the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has removed sensual scenes from the movie. Fans have expressed their disappointment at the CBFC for trimming an 'emotionally intense' sequence and causing an 'abrupt shit' in the proceedings. According to reports, a 33-second scene involving actors Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane, has been cut down to just a few seconds. Apart from this, the CBFC is said to have eliminated two kissing scenes between the leads and muted words with strong language. The Indian version is also learnt to not have a crucial scene shown in the trailer, where Superman and Lois are levitating mid-air while kissing. Superman Box Office Collection Day 1: James Gunn's Film Beats F1 The Movie, Earns Rs 7 Crore
New Delhi: Director James Gunn's Superman has opened to positive reviews and strong box office numbers. What's Happening The film earned Rs 7 crore nett in India on its opening day, positioning it well for the weekend. Early estimates suggest that the film could collect around Rs 20 crore over the weekend, ahead of Rajkummar Rao's new release, Maalik. In comparison, Brad Pitt's racing drama F1 earned Rs 5.5 crore nett on its opening day in India. While Superman surpassed F1, it could not match the opening of Jurassic World Rebirth, which collected Rs 9.2 crore on its first day and went on to earn over Rs 50 crore in its first week. The film also fell short of Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning, which opened to Rs 16.5 crore in India. On Day 1, Superman recorded an average occupancy of 24.96%, with evening and night shows driving most of the footfall. Morning and afternoon occupancy stood at 15.62% and 18.58%, while evening and night shows recorded 26.97% and 38.66%, respectively. Background Internationally, Superman has seen even stronger results. According to Deadline, it had the highest box-office preview collection of the year so far, earning $21 million. There were earlier reports that Warner Bros. would only consider the film a success if it crossed $700 million globally. However, James Gunn later denied that any such benchmark had been officially set by the studio. The film stars David Corenswet as Superman and is a key project in the relaunch of the DC superhero universe. Gunn, along with co-studio head Peter Safran, is leading the effort to build the new DC Universe, starting with this film.
