Inclement weather could not dampen spirits of yoga practitioners in Andhra Pradesh's Srikakulam district
As many as 850 persons took part in the programme which was coordinated by the District Revenue Officer M. Venkateswara Rao. Initially, the yoga programme was planned in the coast but it was shifted to nearby buildings owing to rains and bad weather. In spite of hardships, the practitioners reached Kalingapatnam from Srikakulam, Gara and other places in the early hours.
While appreciating their spirit, Mr.Venkateswara Rao said that constant practice of yoga would ensure health, fitness, happiness and peace of mind for everyone. He said Srikakulam Collector Swapnil Dinakar had taken up Yogandhra programme as a challenge and planned to promote all tourism sports such as Dutch building, Salihundam, Kalingapatnam and other places by selecting those locations for mega yoga programmes.
He said that around 80,000 people from Srikakulam would participate in massive yoga programme to be organised in Bhimili on June 21, the International Yoga Day. Srikakulam District Ayush Officer P. Jagadish, district Panchayat Officer K. Bharati Sowjanya and others took part in the programme.

Death toll in rain-related incidents rises to 78 in Himachal, fresh cloudbursts in Mandi & Chamba
Shimla, July 6 (UNI) As monsoon devastation deepens in Himachal Pradesh, the death toll has climbed to 78 with recovery of two more bodies today, even as 30 people still remain unaccounted for (missing). Meanwhile, fresh incidents of cloudbursts were reported in Mandi and Chamba districts, while four tourists from Punjab were killed at Rahaininalah in Kullu district. Two more bodies were recovered from Nadun (Hamirpur) and Kangra, taking toll to 78. Today at Kortang (Padhar, Mandi), a cloudburst washed away three small bridges and farmland, though no village damage was reported. In Bagehi (Tisa, Chamba), another cloudburst swept away a gharat and a bridge. The road to Bagehi Garh remains blocked, affecting access to a PHC, a 20-bed AYUSH centre, and public utility shops. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mandi, Kangra, and Sirmaur, and an orange alert for Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba, Kullu, Shimla, and Solan. A flood advisory is active in five districts, including Mandi and Kangra. Due to adverse weather, all four flights to Gaggal Airport—two from Delhi (SpiceJet and Indigo) and two from Chandigarh—were cancelled on Saturday. Public utilities remain badly affected. As of Sunday evening, 243 roads were still blocked, with 183 closures in Mandi alone. 241 power transformers (DTRs) are non-functional, including 165 in Gohar and 16 in Karsog. Water supply remains disrupted in 278 schemes, with 267 failures in Sundernagar and 11 in Dharampur, primarily due to high silt and floodwater damage. The cumulative loss is pegged at over Rs 566.87 crore, affecting 225 houses, 243 cowsheds, 14 bridges, 31 vehicles, and one hydroelectric project. Over 215 cattle and 10,000 poultry birds have died. Thirteen relief camps remain active, sheltering 520 displaced people. More than 1,500 ration kits and tarpaulins have been distributed by NDRF, SDRF, and civil teams in isolated villages. Police form Eluru Disaster Response Force amid rising Godavari flood levels
Eluru district police have constituted the Eluru Disaster Response Force (EDRF) to undertake rescue and rehabilitation operations during floods, heavy rains and other natural calamities. The newly-formed force comprises police personnel from various cadres trained in flood rescue techniques, including operations in canals, streams, and the Godavari. 'With the Godavari flood level on the rise, an alert has been issued across the district. We are coordinating closely with the Central Water Commission (CWC), Irrigation, Revenue, Fisheries departments, village sarpanches, and community heads,' said Eluru Superintendent of Police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore. Police have been instructed to regularly collect updates on rainfall, water levels at Bhadrachalam, outflows from the Taliperu Project, and rainfall data in catchment areas in Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra.'Our personnel have been trained in swimming, flood rescue, and managing cyclone shelters. The EDRF aims to be the first responder during disasters,' the SP added. Papikondalu Tour Suspended Due to rising water levels, the popular Papikondalu river tour has been temporarily suspended, confirmed Polavaram DSP M. Venkateswara Rao. Fishermen and locals have been cautioned against entering the river in countryboats. Control rooms along the river bund are actively monitoring boat movement and the situation in vulnerable areas. 'At the recent flood preparedness meeting, we reviewed boat availability, deployment of expert swimmers, strengthening river bunds, arranging sandbags, cyclone shelter readiness, medical teams, and patrols in flood-prone villages,' the SP said. Currently, the Godavari's flood level has reached 28 metres at the Polavaram project, with nearly two lakh cusecs being discharged downstream. While there is no immediate threat to the Agency mandals, residents in low-lying areas have been advised to move to safer locations.

UP govt to equip 235K buildings with rooftop rainwater harvesting system
"Around 34,000 public buildings already have these systems installed and plans are on to extend this to over one lakh additional structures in the coming months," a statement from UP govt said Press Trust of India Lucknow The Uttar Pradesh government is undertaking an extensive campaign to promote rainwater harvesting, aiming to strengthen water conservation and address groundwater depletion, a statement issued here said on Tuesday. According to the statement, it aims to equip 2.35 lakh government and semi-government buildings across the state with rooftop rainwater harvesting system for the campaign. "Around 34,000 public buildings already have these systems installed and plans are on to extend this to over one lakh additional structures in the coming months," the statement added. "This initiative is a significant move toward recharging groundwater levels and conserving water for future generations," it said. It noted that so far 16 districts, including -- Ayodhya, Ambedkar Nagar, Barabanki, Sultanpur, Amethi, Gonda, Balrampur, Bahraich, Shravasti, Basti, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharthnagar, Azamgarh, Ballia, Jhansi, and Pilibhit -- have successfully achieved the 100 per cent target for rainwater harvesting installation in all eligible government buildings. The statement further said the state's Jal Shakti Department is running the "Catch the Rain-2025" campaign to promote rainwater harvesting across Uttar Pradesh. "As part of this, a plan has been chalked out to install rainwater harvesting systems in different government and semi-government buildings. Under the plan, these systems will soon be set up in more than one lakh buildings," it said.
