Donkey Kong Bananza fan breaks game by painting the cartridge yellow
Donkey Kong Bananza is a great game and it's been a very long time since there was another big budget Donkey Kong title, so some fans, with a lot of nostalgia for the franchise, have got a bit carried away with themselves.
One major point of conversation has been the game's placement in the wider Donkey Kong timeline or rather how it seems to contradict it entirely. We're not going to get into that again here, but some fans are oddly annoyed by the lack of consistency… even though the series has never had in-depth storylines.
Another even stranger trend has been trying to paint the cartridge the game comes on yellow, like the Donkey Kong 64 one. That's not a very good idea though, as one fan in particular has discovered.
The fan in question is one gardnerhartung, or merely Gardner, on TikTok who recently shared a video expressing disappointment that the physical game cartridge for Donkey Kong Bananza is the usual red colour, like other Switch 2 cartridges.
His reasoning is that, back in the day, a couple of Donkey Kong games received unique yellow cartridges when they came out, specifically 1995's Donkey Kong Land for the Game Boy and 1996's Donkey Kong 64 for the Nintendo 64.
It was a fun novelty, but it really was only those two games. Yet Gardner, in his own words, was 'displeased' with Bananza not following suit and filmed himself disassembling the cartridge so he can paint it yellow without damaging the game and its connection pins.

The final result is admittedly authentic looking, but it ultimately proved fruitless since the cartridge would no longer fit into the console, either due to the extra layers of paint making it slightly bigger or it wasn't put back together properly.
In a follow-up video, Gardner showed he was able to force the cartridge in eventually and, from the sound of things, actually play the game. But the cartridge is now stuck, and he can't remove it, with one attempt with a pair of metal pliers only breaking part of it off.
While some of the comments do try to offer advice on how to remove the cartridge, there are unsurprisingly a lot of people mocking Gardner for even attempting any of this to begin with.
The videos have gone viral enough to generate at least three separate Reddit threads, where plenty of people either insult Gardner or accuse him of just trying to draw attention.
Whatever the case, Gardner appears to be taking has fame well. In a third video, where it seems he's about to address the mean comments and media coverage, he reveals he was sent a threatening email from Nintendo.
Signed by 'John Nintendo himself', it says unless Gardner gets the cartridge removed by the end of the day, the company will take his house and brick his Switch 2 (admittedly, that second one is something Nintendo can actually do).
He then shows that a second attempt at using the pliers was successful and has presumably left his Switch 2 undamaged, but the cartridge itself is in pieces.
If there's any lesson to be learned from this, it's don't spray paint your games, especially with how expensive they are nowadays, although you'd think most people would know not to do that. More Trending
In other Donkey Kong news, although Nintendo hasn't shared official sales figures yet, data by NielsenIQ and shared by The Game Business says Donkey Kong Bananza enjoyed the biggest opening week in the UK in the franchise's history… maybe.
As it stands, 2010's Donkey Kong Country Returns (the original Wii game, not the Switch remaster) officially holds that record, but NielsenIQ admits it currently lacks data for how many copies of Bananza were sold directly from Nintendo's online store and the eShop.
Even if Bananza has outperformed every other Donkey Kong game in the UK, that doesn't really mean much as the series has never done tremendously well over here.
Although Donkey Kong Country helped the SNES to beat the Mega Drive (aka Genesis) in the US, during the 90s, it didn't have quite the same effect here, where it wasn't until the DS and Wii era when Nintendo really became popular in the UK.

I have my Christmas presents wrapped and ready to go in July - here's how I did it
While most of us are still soaking up the summer sun and planning beach holidays, one ultra-organised mother is already decking the halls for Christms. British mother Char Chandler took to TikTok to showcase her 'Christmas cupboard' where she is storing her children's wrapped gifts and festive goodies until December 25. Her preparations left many social media users baffled as the mother-of-three revealed she has already finished her Christmas preparations - months before the holiday season kicks off. The clip, which was viewed over 180,000 times, showed the mother's festive hoard - complete with carefully wrapped presents in gift bags for her friends and family as well as seasonal snacks. Char panned the camera across a cupboard brimming with gifts, all neatly labelled and colour-coded with different Christmas wrapping for each child. In the video caption, she explained her very relatable reasoning behind the early prep, saying she wanted to 'spread the cost' out over a few months. She explained: 'Christmas in not?? Here's a sneak peak into my Christmas cupboard. 'We have the summer holidays, eldest son's birthday, two holidays and Disney in January, meaning I need to spread the cost. Here's what I've got so far....' Her post has drawn some admiration from followers, many of whom admitted they hadn't even thought about Christmas yet - let alone started shopping. One person said: 'Oh wow, how cool! Love this.' Another asked: 'How do you know what to get them? By the time Christmas comes, they might not like it. That'll be my worry xx' Char replied: 'My kids are into anything and everything so I've just bought a few things of the stuff he likes, Fortnite, Pokemon, Ninjas etc x' Someone else added: 'I've got pressies wrapped too love it all xx' A fourth said: 'I wish I was this organised I am still doing it [on] Christmas Eve.' Char's response read: 'Aww I couldn't, it would stress me out. Each to their own though whatever works best x' Another said: 'Love that, you can relax in the lead up to Xmas' Char replied: 'Yessss with lots of hot chocolate driving round looking at lights and having fun x' @ Christmas in july..... why not?? Heres a sneak peak into my christmas cupboard. We have the summer holidays, eldest sons birthday, two holidays and disney in january meaning i need to spread the cost. Heres what ive got so far.... #christmastiktok #christmascountdown #christmas #xmas #christmasfyp #december #xmascountdown ♬ Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee In the video caption she explains her very relatable reasoning behind the early prep, saying she wanted to 'spread the cost' out over a few months But not everyone is on board with the idea of festive prep while temperatures are still soaring But not everyone was on board with the idea of festive prep while temperatures are still soaring. One person wrote: ''F***. Right. Off. It's. Only. F*****ing. July' Char addressed the rude comment in a subsequent video as she said: 'I really don't get it, why can't you just be happy for someone, show it love, or scroll past?' She defended her Christmas shopping and added: 'I'm happy, I'm organised and I don't have that Christmas rush and the hassle.' Char then told people to 'be nice' and said 'you never know what people are going through'. In 2023, The Daily Mail reported families are starting their Christmas shopping as early as November to spread the cost of the festive season - when bills are also much higher. According to John Lewis' festive tracker report, which analyses YouGov polling and sales, a fifth of people - mainly women - said they start planning for Christmas in November in the hope of scoring a bargain.

British tourist on holiday in Cyprus branded 'disrespectful' as she moans about the 'awful' local cuisine served at her all-inclusive hotel
A self-professed 'picky eater' has divided opinion after giving a less than favourable review of the buffet at her all-inclusive hotel. Simone Wilko, who is from the UK, was holidaying in Cyprus with her mother and boyfriend last week when she decided to share what she had for lunch. The 19-year-old was left unimpressed by the selection of local food - especially at the 'awful' range of vegetables. Simone eventually opted for two pitta breads, some meat and a plate of chips - making sure to avoid any fruit or veg, or anything with seasoning. But after she posted her findings to TikTok, which racked up more than 800,000 views, people were left baffled - even saying she had been 'disrespectful', while others said her eating habits resembled that of a child. As she filmed the stuffed zucchini with vegetables, Simone said in her video: 'There was so much to choose from, but at the same time there wasn't. I understand that I'm in a different country, but what on earth are these foods? 'They look absolutely awful, I'm not going to lie. I couldn't think of anything worse.' Filming the traditional black eye beans with Swiss chards, she said: 'What on earth is this.' Moving onto the pizza counter, she was presented with a 'pizza quattro formaggi' - pizza with four cheeses. Simone said: 'I was actually getting excited thinking this was Margherita pizza, but it wasn't, it had something under it and it was weird cheese.' In the end, she opted for two pitta breads as it's 'just plain bread', adding a scoop of chips, pork stirfry and BBQ ribs, which she 'has at home'. However, she confessed that if they'd had herbs on, it would have been a different story as she 'doesn't like the taste' of seasoning. With the pork, she only managed two tiny slithers of meat as some of it was covered in onions. 'It didn't really work and it was horrible anyway. It had this weird seasoning on, and I do not like seasoning,' she said. She was also tempted by the chicken, but noticed it was 'pink' near the bone and decided to swerve it. Luckily, she was more enthusiastic about the desserts on offer and said they were 'delicious looking', helping herself to some chocolate crunch cake, although she said her coco pops dessert was 'disgusting'. People were left baffled at Simone's selection from the buffet and thought she should have been more adventurous. They said: ''Picky' she means she doesn't like anything healthy or green'; ''What on earth are these foods' and it's literally just vegetables'; 'I thought people ended this phase when they turned like eight'; 'Instead of going abroad maybe try Cornwall babes x'; 'Fellow lowkey picky eater here but there's a difference between you and me - I don't go round being disrespect about food saying they "look awful" and "taste disgusting".' 'I'm a very picky eater but this seems disrespectful.' However, others came to her defence, writing: 'I'm not a picky eater but that food doesn't look very appetizing.' In another video, Simone revealed the contents of a full day of eating while on holiday, opting for a bowl of plain yoghurt and a croissant for breakfast. To drink, she had a glass of apple juice and a chocolate milkshake, followed by a diet coke. For lunch, she had a hot dog and chips, which even had a small salad on the side. For dinner, she picked the meat out of a stew - making sure to avoid the onions and vegetables - again adding some chips, and cucumber this time. For dessert, she chose brownies with custard. It comes after a woman has divided opinion on social media after demonstrating a savvy tactic to make the most out of the hotel breakfast buffet whilst on holiday. Nicola Lewis, a 'decluttering and organising expert' from Essex, the UK, regularly shares travel tips and money-saving hacks with her 210K following on Instagram. In a video uploaded to her page @thisgirlcanorganise in June, she shared her top 'strategy' for tourists holidaying at all-inclusive resorts or half-board accommodation. Many hotel breakfast buffets offer salads, cold meats and cheeses alongside traditional staples such as pastries, cereals and hot dishes. Though the specific selection can vary by hotel, it's common to be offered a range of cold meats, such as ham, turkey, tuna or salami, as well as fresh vegetables like rocket, tomato, red onion and cucumber. According to Nicola, these options can double-up as a handy takeaway option for a lunchtime meal away from the hotel. In the clip, the content creator arrived at the buffet at an undisclosed hotel and sliced some bread from a seeded loaf, before moving on to the salad bar. She scooped a generous portion of tinned tuna onto the bread and topped the sandwich off with rocket and sliced cucumber. Taking her plate to an outdoor seating area, Nicola proceeded to neatly pack her lunch into Tupperware she had brought in her bag, before exiting the buffet to begin her day. In an accompanying caption, she wrote: 'There is nothing wrong with rustling up your lunch from the hotel brekkie buffet - it's what I call budget chic and organised realness! It saves a small fortune - more pennies for cocktails!' She advised hotel guests to arrive at the buffet armed with a collapsible container and a washable sandwich bag to store in their room fridges. Nicola added: 'You're posh, practical, and planet friendly. Just a little old skool tip from me to you... now strut into that day fully fed and fabulous! And it's not stingy, it's STRATEGY!' The cost-conscious Brit assured her followers that after checking with hotel management, she was 'allowed' to leave the premises with her packed lunch. The clip, which has since amassed over 45,000 likes and almost 2000 comments, has left viewers divided - with many accusing the holidaymaker of being 'cheap' and 'greedy.' One person wrote: 'You have paid for breakfast. Not lunch. Hotel within rights to charge you for additional breakfast.' Another outraged holidaymaker: 'Yup, another entitled traveller stealing.. so wrong.. you should be ashamed.'
