Who were Harber sisters? Teenagers killed in Texas floods found with their ‘hands locked together'
As flash floods ravaged central Texas on Friday, The Associated Press reported that around 80 people were killed while several remain missing.
Flooding occurred after the Guadalupe River rose more than 20 to 26 feet in 90 minutes, resulting in extensive destruction and mass evacuations.
What we know about Harber sisters
In a statement posted on a GoFundMe page, their aunt Jennifer said that the Harber sisters died during a family vacation at Casa Bonita, a gated enclave in Hunt, Texas.
'RJ and Annie's daughters, Brooke (11) and Blair (13), were with their beloved grandparents, Charlene and Mike Harber, when they tragically lost their lives in the devastating floodwaters in Hunt, Texas. The family is now facing an unimaginable loss and a very long road ahead,' the page says.
Both the girls had been residing with their grandparents, Charlene and Mike Harber, who remain unaccounted for.
Their parents RJ and Annie were lodging in a different cabin close by. Around 3:30 in the morning, they got up to the sound of rushing water and attempted to break a window to get to their daughters, but the water current did not let them reach them.
Brooke Harber texted dad, maternal grandparents before Texas tragedy
In the GoFundMe, Jennifer stated that Brooke Harber sent messages to her father and her maternal grandparents around three in the morning, stating, 'I love you.'
The sisters were discovered 15 miles away in Kerrville.
'Their hands were locked together when they were found,' the GoFundMe states, describing the tragedy as a 'nightmare.'

Trump approves 'Major Disaster Declaration' for Kerr County
Taking to X on Saturday, Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz stated: 'Heidi and I continue to lift up in prayer the families of the victims. It is imperative that all Texans heed the warnings and guidance of law enforcement. Please stay safe.'
President Donald Trump authorized Kerr County a 'Major Disaster Declaration' on Sunday, opening the door for federal funding for rescue and recovery efforts.
In the middle of the flood debris, multiple local, state, and federal agencies continue to conduct search and rescue operations.
Texas flash floods have killed at least 82 people and left others, including girls at a summer camp, missing. As officials face questions about their readiness and the haste of their early response, the destruction along the Guadalupe River, west of San Antonio, has prompted a large search operation.

Los Angeles joins ACLU lawsuit against Trump's immigration raids
The city of Los Angeles and other Southern California municipalities are joining a lawsuit against President Donald Trump's administration aimed at halting immigration raids that have spread panic among immigrant communities and sparked widespread protests. Trump called National Guard troops and US Marines into Los Angeles in June in response to protests against the immigration raids.(AFP) The lawsuit, filed last week by the American Civil Liberties Union, accuses federal agents of using unlawful police tactics such as racial profiling to meet immigration arrest quotas set by the administration. The legal action by Los Angeles marks its first formal effort to halt the raids after the administration sued the city in June for limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities. "These unconstitutional roundups and raids cannot be allowed to continue," Los Angeles City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto told reporters on Tuesday night, flanked by officials from municipalities joining the lawsuit including Los Angeles County, Pasadena, Santa Monica, Culver City, Pico Rivera, Montebello, Monterey Park and West Hollywood. Trump called National Guard troops and US Marines into Los Angeles in June in response to protests against the immigration raids, marking an extraordinary use of military force to support civilian police operations within the United States. The raids are part of the Republican president's hardline approach toward immigration. Troops have continued to work alongside federal agents, with National Guard forces on Monday sweeping through MacArthur Park near downtown Los Angeles in an operation criticized by the city's Mayor Karen Bass. According to the ACLU lawsuit, federal immigration authorities have carried out illegal actions in Southern California that include warrantless arrests by masked, anonymous agents and denying legal counsel to people held in a "dungeonlike" facility.

Baby Dies In US After Mother Leaves Him In Hot Car To Get Lip Filler
A baby died after his mother left him inside a car on a hot day to get a lip filler at a medical spa in Bakersfield, California, authorities said. The tragic incident happened on June 29. She left her two children, a one-year-old boy and a two-year-old boy, in the car. The 20-year-old Maya Hernandez has pleaded not guilty. Hernandez has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and two counts of child cruelty. According to police, Hernandez admitted to knowing her actions were irresponsible. As per a report filed in Kern County Superior Court, Bakersfield Police slammed Hernandez for "placing the value of her appearance over the safety and well-being of her children". The Court documents mentioned that Hernandez left the vehicle running with the air conditioning on. But as per a car dealership, the vehicle can turn off after about an hour of inactivity. The children were left without air conditioning for approximately 90 minutes. When she came back from the spa, she found the baby foaming at the mouth, and he was also having a seizure. She called the emergency services, and both were rushed to a hospital for treatment. The one-year-old had no pulse and was not breathing. His lips were blue. His internal body temperature was 107.2 degrees, according to the police report. The one-year-old was pronounced dead at a hospital. Meanwhile, the two-year-old was placed in protective custody after getting treatment at the hospital. Hernandez had previously asked the spa if she could bring her children inside, and the staff replied, "Sure if you don't mind them waiting in the waiting room." She told police that she left them in the car as she had no idea about the length of time it would take for her procedure. She is being held on more than $1 million bail and is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing. The incident has sparked outrage, with many criticising Hernandez's decision to prioritise her cosmetic procedure over her children's well-being. A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the family.

Idaho murders: Kaylee Goncalves' family reveals she ‘fought for her life' in painful last moments, ‘She was sleeping…'
The family of Kaylee Goncalves, one of the University of Idaho students murdered by Bryan Kohberger, has opened up about the young woman's harrowing last moments in a social media post. Kohberger has been accused of brutally stabbing Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen and Kaylee to death in the early morning hours of November 13, 2022, at a rental home near their campus in Moscow, Idaho. Idaho murders: Kaylee Goncalves' family reveals she 'fought for her life' (kayleegoncalves/Instagram) The Gonclaves family was furious about a plea deal that would help Kohbegrer dodge the death penalty. They expressed their anger in various posts on their Facebook family page. In one of those posts, they opened up about how Kohberger showed no mercy to Kaylee. 'It was clear that she fought for her life' 'I am sorry if you don't agree with our recent decisions on the plea deal. BK literally is too afraid to die, but he wasn't afraid to kill. BK wanted a plea deal and he was given one. Kaylee wasn't offered a plea deal. The state is showing BK mercy by removing the death penalty. BK did not show Kaylee ANY mercy. People tell us we should be happy with life in prison without parole as he will never get out(how is that not a win they ask) well the death penalty also means life on death row. We knew it would be decades before he ever would face the firing squad. We knew that his execution was not going to happen anytime soon, BUT his life on DEATH ROW while serving his time would have been much worse than serving his time as life in prison. He doesn't deserve life in prison. He deserved life on death row,' the family wrote. They revealed that Kohberger beat Kaylee before killing her. 'Also people say that the Goncalves don't want justice, they want vengeance,' the post adds. 'Well let me ask you a question about your 21yr old daughter was sleeping in her bed and BK went into her house with the intention to kill her and he did, by stabbing her MANY times, as well as beating her in the face and head while it was clear that she fought for her would you want? Justice or vengeance ? Maybe a little bit of both? I'm curious how you all would feel. It gets so old having people say we want vengeance and make it sound like we are animals for having those feelings... I just find it so hard that so many people are judging us and they have never stepped foot in our shoes.' In the same post, the family decided torefund more than $85,000 they received on a GoFundMe that was launched during Kohberger's trial. 'Please give me time to figure out the best way to do this,' they wrote.
