BBC says it should have pulled livestream of tap group Bob Vylan's act over 'antisemitic' chants
The British broadcaster has come under heavy criticism for broadcasting the rap punk duo's performance Saturday, when rapper Bobby Vylan led crowds attending the U.K.'s largest summer music festival in chants of 'free, free Palestine' and 'death, death to the IDF,' the Israel Defense Forces.
The BBC said Monday that it 'respects freedom of expression but stands firmly against incitement to violence.'
'The antisemitic sentiments expressed by Bob Vylan were utterly unacceptable and have no place on our airwaves,' it said.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer condemned the chants, saying there was no excuse for such 'appalling hate speech.'
'The BBC needs to explain how these scenes came to be broadcast,' Starmer said.
Ofcom, the broadcasting regulator, also said it was 'very concerned' about the BBC livestream and said the broadcaster 'clearly has questions to answer.'
The BBC said earlier in its defense that it had issued a warning on screen about 'very strong and discriminatory language' during the livestream.
Bob Vylan, who formed in 2017, have released four albums addressing issues to do with racism, masculinity and class. Its two members both keep their real names secret for privacy reasons.
In a statement posted on social media, Bobby Vylan said: 'Teaching our children to speak up for the change they want and need is the only way that we make this world a better place."
More than 6,000 people have been killed and more than 20,000 injured in Gaza since a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas collapsed in March. Since the war began in October 2023 with a Hamas attack on Israel, Israeli attacks have killed more than 56,000 people and injured 132,000, according to Gaza's Health Ministry.
It doesn't distinguish between civilians and combatants, but has said that women and children make up more than half the 56,000 dead. Israel says it only targets militants and blames civilian deaths on Hamas, accusing the militants of hiding among civilians, because they operate in populated areas.

After Game Changer setback, Ram Charan says Peddi with Janhvi Kapoor is ‘more exciting than RRR and Rangasthalam': 'Note this down today'
As fans continue to react to the underwhelming buzz around Game Changer, Ram Charan 's candid comments about his upcoming film Peddi are now making waves online. An old video from a fan meet held in London has resurfaced, where the actor compared Peddi to his past blockbusters like RRR and Rangasthalam, and declared it even more exciting. Speaking at the event in May, Charan told his fans, 'I hope everyone liked the Peddi glimpse. I think it's one of the most riveting scripts I've done. Probably, it's more exciting than Rangasthalam and RRR. I don't say this for every film I do. So, you note this down today.' London fan meet throws spotlight on Charan's excitement for Peddi This enthusiastic remark came during his visit to the UK for the unveiling of his wax statue at Madame Tussauds. The statue, which also features his pet dog Rhyme, was launched in the presence of his family and an elated crowd of admirers. The same day, he attended an intimate fan gathering where the now-viral video was recorded. Another heartwarming moment from the day included Charan's interaction with former British boxing champion Julius Francis, who was on security duty at the venue. Francis asked the actor to place a championship belt on his shoulder, a gesture Charan happily fulfilled. High-octane scenes for Peddi currently being shot near Hyderabad Meanwhile, Charan is deep into the shooting of Peddi, with a high-intensity train sequence being filmed on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The team has constructed a specially designed set for the action-heavy segment. Helmed by Uppena director Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi is described as a raw, rustic sports drama and a technical marvel. The film marks a major collaboration between Charan and Academy Award-winning composer AR Rahman. R Rathnavelu is behind the lens, adding to the visual promise. Klin Kaara Meets Her Tigress Namesake on 2nd Birthday | Ram Charan & Upasana's Special Celebration The film stars Janhvi Kapoor opposite Charan, with seasoned performers like Shiva Rajkumar, Divyendu Sharma, and Jagapathi Babu rounding out the ensemble. Peddi officially went on floors in 2024 and is slated for a grand theatrical release on March 27, 2026.

‘Heads of State' REVIEW: John Cena, Idris Elba's bromance shines in an otherwise predictable ride
'Heads of State', directed by Ilya Naishuller and streaming on Prime Video, is your typical action-comedy caper about world leaders turned unlikely allies. The film brings together John Cena as a fictional U.S. President and Idris Elba as the British Prime Minister, both caught up in an international conspiracy. While the plot doesn't break any new ground, the charm of its leading men and a few standout moments manage to keep things from completely falling flat. Let's get this out of the way: the storyline is nothing particularly fresh. The basic premise — two world leaders with opposite personalities forced to work together to save the world — has been done more times than one can count. The film relies heavily on well-worn tropes: international espionage, witty banter, improbable team-ups, and just enough drama to push the action forward. It's all very safe, predictable, and doesn't try too hard to surprise the audience. Director Ilya Naishuller keeps the pace fast and the energy up, ensuring that viewers don't dwell too long on the film's shortcomings. However, there's no denying that the film leans heavily on its star power rather than on a strong script or innovative storytelling. Despite its generic plot, the film boasts a strong cast, and that's where 'Heads of State' finds its footing. John Cena and Idris Elba are clearly having a good time, and their bromance is the best thing about the film. Cena plays Will Derringer, a former action star turned U.S. President, with just the right mix of goofiness and grit. Idris Elba brings his trademark charisma and gravitas to the role of Sam Clarke, the British PM and a no-nonsense former commando. Together, they create a refreshing and often hilarious dynamic that makes the film enjoyable even when the story falters. Priyanka Chopra Jonas plays Noel Bisset, a senior MI6 agent, and she brings a sense of urgency and flair to the role. Watching her swoop in to protect two large, powerful men is a fun twist, and she pulls it off with style. However, the romantic tension hinted at between her and Elba's character never really takes off. Their chemistry is serviceable but ultimately underwhelming, especially compared to the natural spark between Cena and Elba. Jack Quaid makes a brief appearance, but his short role is memorable. He brings a playful, comic energy that adds just the right touch of levity when needed, even if it's only for a few moments. Visually, 'Heads of State' delivers on the action front. The cinematography is slick, and the action sequences are well choreographed. With Elba and Cena leading the charge, the fight scenes feel dynamic and convincing. Explosions, chases, and shootouts are executed with flair, and there's a satisfying physicality to the combat scenes. Priyanka Chopra's action scenes are also solid, and she proves once again that she has the screen presence and skills for high-octane roles. However, it's frustrating to see Hollywood still not fully tapping into her potential. While she's given some action to work with, her character remains underused, often playing second fiddle to the male leads. In the end, 'Heads of State' is a serviceable action-comedy that doesn't aim too high but gets the basics right, thanks mostly to its talented cast. If you're looking for something easy to watch, with a few laughs and some decent action, this might just fit the bill. But if you're hoping for originality or depth, this film probably isn't it. It's the electric bromance between John Cena and Idris Elba that gives this film its heart and humour. Without them, 'Heads of State' would struggle to rise above mediocrity. The rest of the cast, especially Chopra and Quaid, offer welcome support but are given too little to work with. Watch it for the laughs, the camaraderie, and the well-shot action — just don't expect to remember it for long.
