Burned body found on Stone Mountain

Yahoo01-06-2025
STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (WSAV) — A burned body was discovered early Saturday morning in a remote area of Stone Mountain Park. Officials say the body is that of a young man but it was so badly burned it will require further forensic review.
Many park goers were in shock to hear the news of the discovery. David Farmer was visiting when he learned about it. 'It's a little scary and it's kind of somber. I've never seen anything like that. I've been here a lot never seen anything like that.'
John Bankhead with the Stone Mountain Park Police also said they have not seen anything like this. 'This is a very weird situation, a very unique situation and I'm curious myself as to what might've happened.'
Dekalb County received a 911 call from a hiker who made the discovery shortly after 8:15 a.m. Saturday. Hours later the burn marks remained in the area formed by a rock that hangs over the mountain. According to Bankhead, it's an area that's not widely hiked. 'I hike at out here a lot I didn't even know it existed.'
It's not yet clear what or how this happened. The Dekalb County Medical Examiner's Office will do an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death. Dekalb Fire is conducting an arson investigation.
Mike Morris was another visitor at the park when the discovery was made. 'It's unfortunate and to be so close in proximity to where everyone's kind of traversing and going back and forth. It's unfortunate that it even happened to begin with but just to hear it it's sad.'

ICE detains more than a dozen heading to work in Princeton, NJ

More than a dozen people were arrested and detained by ICE while they traveled to work in Princeton, New Jersey, local officials confirmed. The operation occurred early Thursday morning with no notice or warning, Princeton's local government said in a Facebook post. In total, 15 people without proper documents were taken into custody. 'Please know that ICE did not notify the Municipality of Princeton or the Princeton Police Department of their presence or actions,' the post said, emphasizing that no local officials or authorities were involved. 'We understand that news like this may be alarming, and we want to assure you that we are committed to keeping our community informed. We will share updates as soon as we receive more confirmed details.' According to Resistance in Action NJ, an immigration advocacy group, a white van carrying ICE agents approached the workers along Harrison Street around 6:45 a.m. Many of them were on the way to work for a local landscaping company at the time, according to family members who spoke during a Thursday evening press conference hosted by Resistance in Action. They all described their loved ones as hard workers — most of them working two jobs — who came to the United States for a better life, per a translation by A nephew of one detainee said the van and all of their belongings were abandoned on the side of the road. Another loved one said their friend worked the landscaping job during the day and then work until 2 a.m. at a local bar. Few other details have been provided. _____

Brooklyn woman struck by stray bullet begs shooter to turn himself in

A 65-year-old woman who was struck by a stray bullet while running errands in Brooklyn is afraid the shooter is still out there. She spoke out about the shooting for the first time in an exclusive interview with CBS News New York's Natalie Duddridge. Vivette Morris, who goes by Precious, says she was walking to get groceries just after 10 a.m. on July 13 when she was shot outside her apartment near Brooklyn and Foster avenues in East Flatbush. "I hear the shot, and I feel when it hit me. It sting me. This foot, my left foot gets stiff. I couldn't move it. All of me, I scream out and I call people. Nobody comes," she said. She says good Samaritans eventually called 911. An ambulance took her to the hospital, where doctors found a bullet lodged near her hip. "The doctor said the hip bone crack," Morris said. "They cannot remove it because of where it is. They can't touch it." She is now home from the hospital, but still recovering, relying on a cane and walker to get around. "Right now, I'm in pain," she said. Police are still searching for the suspect, who was described as wearing a light blue sweatsuit and fleeing in a black BMW. "I want to know why these guys ... fired shots for what reason? For what reason? And the policeman is not there. There's no security here," Morris said. Morris says she's worried the shooter still out there and could come back. "I'm begging that person just to give up himself. Put down the gun, please. 'Cause one life we have to live, and we all want to live and be happy," she said.
