#SHOWBIZ: Farid Kamil apologises over verbal faux pas

KUALA LUMPUR: Actor Farid Kamil claims to have apologised to a legendary star via WhatsApp for repeatedly naming the person in a recent podcast session.
Regretful of what happened, Farid, 44, admitted his mistake because the conversation was seen to reflect badly on the image and reputation of the legendary star involved.
"I have personally contacted him to apologise and explain my mistake.
"I regret that particular conversation during the podcast interview. I need to tell the fans and supporters of the veteran artiste that I have already apologised to him. I hope they can forgive my mistake."
"He read my message, however, no response was given," Farid said when met at the recent premiere of the film Telaga Suriram, here.
The popular actor said he had asked the responsible party to take down the video after it went viral and became a topic of debate among netizens.
"I have instructed them (the podcast host) to take down the video because of my mistake of speaking and sharing the experience," he said.
Controversy erupted when Farid, while a guest on the podcast, 'Podcast Lelaki', expressed regret after being slandered for taking illegal substances at the launch of the film Anwar: The Untold Story, about two years ago.
Farid's series of posts drew criticism from netizens who were generally furious with his naming of the veteran star who was said to have faced the same problem.

Chris Martin jokes about kiss cam chaos at Wisconsin show

Published on: Sunday, July 20, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jul 20, 2025 By: Malay Mail Text Size: MADISON: Chris Martin ( pic ) is leaning into the kiss cam chaos that made headlines this week — cracking jokes about it during Coldplay's latest 'Music of the Spheres' tour stop in Madison, Wisconsin. 'We'd like to say hello to some of you in the crowd and put some of you on the big screen,' the 48-year-old frontman told fans at Camp Randall Stadium yesterday, according to fan-shot footage. Advertisement 'How we're going to do that is we're going to use our cameras and put some of you on the big screen.' With a laugh, he added: 'Please, if you haven't done your makeup, do your makeup now!' Martin's playful jab came just days after a Coldplay show in Foxborough, Massachusetts, where the band's kiss cam unexpectedly sparked an online storm. On July 16, Andy Byron — then-CEO of data company Astronomer — was caught on the jumbotron with his arms around Kristin Cabot, the company's Chief People Officer. The awkward part? Byron is married to someone else. Reacting in real time, Martin quipped on stage: 'Whoa, look at these two. Alright, come on. You're OK! Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy. I'm not quite sure what to do.' He followed up with: 'Holy s***. I hope we didn't do something bad.' Despite the couple ducking for cover after spotting themselves on the big screen, the moment was captured by a fan and quickly went viral on TikTok. Astronomer launched a 'formal investigation' into the matter on Thursday, initially placing Byron on temporary leave before announcing his resignation yesterday — the same day Coldplay performed in Wisconsin. 'Astronomer is committed to the values and culture that have guided us since our founding. Our leaders are expected to set the standard in both conduct and accountability, and recently, that standard was not met,' a spokesman for the company told Us Weekly. 'Andy Byron has tendered his resignation, and the Board of Directors has accepted.' As the company begins searching for a new CEO, Coldplay's kiss cam lives on — this time with a warning from Martin himself. - Malay Mail * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Emma Watson and Zoe Wanamaker banned from driving for speeding

Published on: Thursday, July 17, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jul 17, 2025 By: AFP Text Size: Watson, 35, was found driving at 38 miles per hour in a 30-mile zone in Banbury last July. - AFP pic LONDON: Two well-known actors from the 'Harry Potter' film series have been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in separate incidents. Emma Watson, who played Hermione Granger, and Zoe Wanamaker, known for her role as Madame Hooch, were both penalised for exceeding speed limits in different locations. Advertisement Watson, 35, was found driving at 38 miles per hour in a 30-mile zone in Banbury last July. The actress, currently studying at Oxford University, was stopped while driving her blue Audi. Her lawyer confirmed that despite being a student, she could afford the £1,044 fine imposed by the court. Meanwhile, Wanamaker, 76, was caught driving at 46 miles per hour in a 40-mile zone on the M4 motorway in Berkshire last August. Like Watson, she received a six-month driving ban and was fined the same amount. Both cases were handled by the High Wycombe Magistrates' Court, though neither actress attended the hearings in person. The court proceedings concluded with the penalties being enforced without further dispute. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Creamy triumph for Musang King at 2025 World Durian Championship

Published on: Monday, July 14, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 14, 2025 Text Size: Mohamad being briefed during the event. - Pic via Mohamad Sabu | Facebook KUALA LUMPUR: Musang King has once again cemented its crown after being named 'King of Kings' at the recent 2025 World Durian Championship. The showdown at Bangi Golf Resort featured 96 top-notch durians from across Malaysia, but the golden-fleshed favourite from We Go Farm came out on top. Despite fierce competition from contenders like Tupai King, Tekka, Kim Hong, and D13, the Musang King's creamy texture and rich, complex flavour won the judges over. Judges included food experts, chefs, and seasoned durian lovers, all in search of the perfect mix of sweetness, aroma, bitterness, and that unmistakable durian punch. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, who officiated the event, celebrated the fruit's global following while sounding a note of caution. In a Facebook post, he reminded fans that with global recognition comes responsibility, emphasising that Malaysian durians must maintain consistent quality and not become complacent. He added that a robust grading system is essential to maintain Malaysia's status as the world's gold standard for durians. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
