Mumford & Sons release new album, announce show at Xcel Energy Center
The band released their fifth studio album, Rushmere, earlier this week, a release that was accompanied by the unveiling of a tour that will bring them to the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Oct. 9.
The Twin Cities sit near the end of that long tour, which will kick off in Oregon on June 5. They'll also make stops in other Upper Midwest cities, including Chicago (Oct. 8), Milwaukee (Oct. 11), and Detroit (Oct. 20).
Throughout that last leg of the tour, the foot-stomping indie-folk group will have Michael Kiwanuka opening.
Tickets are on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 4. A dollar from every ticket will be donated to War Child, which works to protect, educate, and "stand up for the rights of children affected by war."

Remembering Kendal Calling: the homegrown festival that's flourishing
THIS year marks the 20th anniversary of Kendal Calling, and we're looking back on the festival that put Cumbria on the music map. It has grown from a two-day, 900 capacity festival in 2006 to a 40,000 capacity four-day extravaganza. It had a capacity of 900 with a circus big top housing the majority of the performances. The following year saw the festival increase capacity again to 4,000 and extending to three days, with the winner of the Best Urban Act Dizzee Rascal flying in from Ibiza to perform on the opening Friday night only to fly back again straight after the show for a performance back on the island. The 20th anniversary festival has Courteeners, Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy and Kaiser Chiefs topping the bill. Other big names set to perform this year include Sophie Ellis Bextor, Travis, The Wombats, Frank Turner, Maximo Park, Corinne Bailey Rae and Jason Manford. In fact, the ten-track record is quite lean and mean, clocking in at a surprisingly brief 34 minutes and 22 seconds. This bloat-free offering starts small with the unassuming 'Malibu,' which builds into a longing chorus complete with an anthemic piano accompaniment. From there, Mumford employs his trademark yelp for the upbeat, hard-charging 'Caroline.' The switch from inspirational ballad to friendly jam is proof positive that the band still knows what make them so special- emotional epics and singalongs. They combine those qualities to great effect in the title track 'Rushmere.' The jangling three-minute tune is a ramshackle good time in step with the group's biggest hits. It's intimate, it's epic, it's inviting, it's everything you want a Mumford and Sons song to be complete with an unforgettable refrain — 'light me up I'm wasted in the dark/rush me a restless heart to the end' — that you won't be able to stop wailing in your best Marcus impression. Other standouts here include the funky, minimalistic, hand-clapping 'Truth' (arguably our favorite on the record, for the record), the so delicate it might wither away 'Where It Belongs' and 'Carry On,' which perfectly captures the bittersweet feeling of 'closing up shop.' Mumford and Sons to bring folk tunes to Berkeley
Mumford and Sons emerged from the West London folk community in the late 2000s, and have since become global sensations. The group formed in 2007, and is composed of multi-instrumentalists Marcus Mumford, Ted Dwane and Ben Lovett. They began to break into the U.S. mainstream in the early 2010s with tracks such as 'Little Lion Man' and 'The Cave,' eventually earning their first Grammy Award for their sophomore album 'Babel,' which released in 2012. Mumford and Sons have continued to release records periodically since, and Mumford ventured out on his debut solo project, 'Self-Titled,' in 2022 while continuing to make music with the band. He performed at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass that same year. Now, fans can catch the folk rock group at UC Berkeley's Greek Theater on Monday-Tuesday, June 9-10.
