Govt Directs Google To Remove Chinese App For Showing Wrong Map Of India
The government's notice states that the China-based video chat platform, which has over 10,000 downloads on Google Play, misrepresented the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and entirely omitted Lakshadweep Island from its map. The directive also refers to the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 1990, which makes such misrepresentations a punishable offense with imprisonment of up to six months, fines, or both.
"It is evident that the subject map in the 'Ablo' app available at Google Play Store depicts Indian map with erroneous external boundary of India which jeopardises the sovereignty and integrity of India," the notice states.
MeitY has cited Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, which mandates intermediaries to 'expeditiously remove or disable access' to content that violates Indian laws, in its notice to Google.
MEITY's notice states that the issue of incorrect maps on digital platforms, was flagged during a meeting with SoI. The ministry has asked SoI to pursue legal action against such apps under relevant laws.
The IT Ministry also cited the Supreme Court's 2015 Shreya Singhal v. Union of India judgment, which obligates intermediaries to act on valid government order.
Google appears to have complied with the order, as Google Play Store landing page of the app now shows the message: 'We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server'. The app is also now unavailable on Apple's App Store for the Indian users.
Earlier in 2023, MeitY and SoI flagged apps on the Play Store such as World Map Quiz and MA 2 - President Simulator for depicting India's borders incorrectly. Similarly, in 2021, Twitter (now X) was pulled up by the Indian government over non-compliance with the IT Rules 2021.
The then Twitter India chief Manish Maheshwari was booked by the Uttar Pradesh police on charges for incorrect representation of the map of India.

Ayush Panchmiya said the theft occurred on a Saturday, and he couldn't approach the Indian Embassy for help as it was closed over the weekend. In posts shared on X and LinkedIn, he recalled the shock he felt when he realised that all his belongings had been stolen in a foreign country. The co-founder of Blockwee, a startup that provides specialized marketing services to Web3 brands, said that he and his team members had landed in Barcelona after a 'heavy week' at a crypto conference in Cannes, France. They were working at a Starbucks outlet, editing content for some clients, when Panchmiya stepped outside to take a call. He left his bag under the table, thinking nothing of it. It was 'something I'd done a hundred times on trips like these,' said the Mumbai-based entrepreneur. Unfortunately for Panchmiya, leaving his bag under the table proved to be a mistake. When he came back, he realised it had been stolen. Red tape in Barcelona In his X post, Panchmiya revealed that his bag contained his credit cards, a good chunk of his cash and his passport with his US visa. 'Panic hit me. I'd heard all the travel warnings: Be extra careful in Spain, especially Barcelona. But hearing isn't the same as experiencing,' he said. Panchmiya immediately approached the staff at Starbucks, requesting them to let him review the CCTV footage. The staff, however, refused, claiming that police had to get involved to review the CCTV footage. The Indian entrepreneur then approached the nearest police station and relayed his predicament. 'And then came the real shock,' he said, revealing that police told him it would take 15 to 20 days to review the CCTV footage. Time was a luxury that Panchmiya did not have. The theft occurred on a Saturday, and he was due to fly back to India on Monday. Indian embassy steps in 'The Indian embassy was shut. So I waited, helpless, until Monday morning. Walked in as soon as they opened,' he recalled. The embassy proved extremely helpful and issued an emergency certificate in just four to five hours. An emergency certificate works like a temporary passport – and Panchmiya was able to board his flight back to India that same evening. 'Now I'm in the middle of applying for a new passport, redoing my visas from scratch, and dealing with everything that comes after such a loss,' he said. The entrepreneur said he was sharing his experience not to rant but to help people understand their options if they find themselves in a similar situation. 'If you travel often, especially around Europe, this can happen to anyone,' he said. 'Ask for an emergency certificate. If your flight is close, they can issue one in hours.'

Her parents wrote to Lugdi's husband, Kedarnath, who confirmed what Shanti was saying. Her parents took Shanti to Mathura, where she led them and a team of researchers to her old house. SHe also recognized Lugdi's parents in a crowd. The case even caught the attention of Mahatma Gandhi. He asked a commission to look into the case. The commission found 'no rational explanation" for the matter. Shanti Devi's story was detailed in a 1994 book by Swedish author Sture Lonnerstrand. The book was translated into English in 1998. US Boy's Claim About Being Lou Gehrig In 2009, a boy named Christian said he was a baseball player called Lou Gehrig, who was nicknamed 'The Iron Horse.' His parents initially dismissed his statements. Later, Christian saw a photo of baseball icon Babe Ruth and claimed that he was 'mean" to him. Christian also identified Gehrig from a team photo and said this is what he used to look like. At that time, he was two years old and did not have exposure to baseball. Christian remembered his demise in detail and also knew information that was not in public, like the names of Gehrig's parents. Like Lee Kuan Yew, Chandrababu Naidu epitomises visionary leadership
The trip proved instrumental in reigniting interest among international industrial giants to set up operations in the state. The new industrial policies introduced by Naidu's government are already instilling confidence in investors, both domestic and foreign. It is truly inspiring to witness the remarkable similarities between Lee Kuan Yew, the founding father and visionary architect of modern Singapore, and N. Chandrababu Naidu, who has been rebuilding Andhra Pradesh from the ground after the state's painful bifurcation. Both leaders have demonstrated visionary thinking, indomitable will, and relentless drive to steer their respective regions toward prosperity defying all odds. During Naidu's recent visit to Singapore for the World Cities Summit, several Singaporean dignitaries, including then Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam, drew striking parallels between the leadership styles of Lee Kuan Yew and Naidu. Lee Kuan Yew transformed Singapore from a struggling third-world country into a first-world economic powerhouse within a few decades. Likewise, Naidu has taken on the herculean task of rebuilding the residual Andhra Pradesh, which was left bleeding after bifurcation, and is now steadily propelling toward becoming a leading state in India. The visionary governance, innovative reforms, and futuristic planning under Naidu's leadership during 2014–2019 were widely admired. The people of Singapore were already aware of his transformative governance. Both Lee and Naidu are known for setting ambitious goals and pursuing them with strategic acumen. Their perseverance and purpose-driven governance saved their respective regions from decline and enabled them to thrive. Naidu's four-day visit to Singapore, focused on attracting investments to Andhra Pradesh, which is testament to his proactive approach. Upon arrival, Telugu families in Singapore welcomed him and Minister Nara Lokesh with traditional fervour and treated them to classical Kuchipudi and kolatam renditions. Around 2,500 members of the Telugu diaspora gathered to meet the Chief Minister, who graciously interacted with every individual and posed for photographs for posterity. Naidu and Lokesh held back-to-back meetings with representatives of various global organizations, explaining the state's positive investment climate and inviting them to become stakeholders in the State's development. As part of an overwhelming 26 official engagements, they visited several key projects and studied the best practices for implementation back home. The Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, Shilpak Ambule, extended full support to the delegation. Notably, the Chief Minister engaged in critical discussions with leaders of major companies such as Temasek Holdings, CapitaLand Investment (India), Mandai Wildlife Group, and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation. These conversations centred on industrial development, port-led infrastructure and logistics. Naidu presented Andhra Pradesh's economic potential through a detailed PP presentation highlighting the state's resources, strategic location, and pro-industry policies. As a result of Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government's chaotic and investor-unfriendly policies, Andhra Pradesh's brand image had taken a severe beating. Naidu and Lokesh's tireless efforts during this visit were specifically aimed at restoring confidence among global investors. The Chief Minister also laid out region-specific industrial and trade development plans and emphasised the strategic importance of Andhra Pradesh's vast 974-km coastline. Six ports are operational, and four more are in the pipeline. Integrated development plans involving road, rail, and inland water transport are being pursued to foster port-based industries. Naidu assured the CEOs and investors he met that the government would provide all necessary infrastructure. 'Now is the right time to invest in Andhra Pradesh,' he reiterated. His vision is to transform Andhra Pradesh into a logistics hub along the East Coast, leveraging its long coastline and deep-water ports. Naidu's efforts to restore the state's credibility, rekindle ties with Singapore, and chart a new course for Andhra Pradesh's economic revival are commendable. As the state gears up to host the Partnership Summit 2025 in Visakhapatnam on November 14–15, the focus will be on reimagining the state's industrial landscape. The entire nation is now watching Andhra Pradesh with renewed interest. After five years of stagnation, the state is poised to rise again Phoenix-like. The government is exploring every possible avenue to ensure financial empowerment and economic resurgence. Indeed, it is a matter of great pride that a visionary like Chandrababu Naidu is drawing comparisons with none other than Lee Kuan Yew. Both leaders—through their foresight, discipline, and determination—have proven how transformational leadership can change and rewrite a region's destiny.
