'I spent day diving into bins for hidden treasures and was floored by what I found'

'I spent day diving into bins for hidden treasures and was floored by what I found'

Daily Mirrora day ago
A couple have started documenting the secretive world of British dumpster-divers – even using a video camera they found in a bin to launch their own YouTube channel
The UK's best dumpster divers have found an unused aquarium and a brand-new hamster cage amongst other incredible discoveries.

The pair behind the Couple of Dumpsters YouTube channel took fellow YouTuber Joe Fish on one of their bin-raiding missions and almost immediately produced an incredible haul from a refuse bin arounds the back of a pet shop.

One of the dumpster-diving couple pointed out that, apart from being terribly wasteful: 'It's illegal to throw electric stuff in the bin."

The pair also came across an electric fly-zapping tennis racquet, that might come in handy around food bins, as well as a collection of apparently untouched cookery books. In another nearby bin they find dozens of bags of crisps, with a retail value of around £20 or £30.
Among the other extraordinary consumer electronics finds they showed Joe included an X -Box 360 and a huge library of games. They explain that much of what they find gets cleaned up and repaired, if necessary, before being donated or sold for charity.

Coming across a bin packed with games console controllers, hard drives and various cables, an amazed Joe said 'It's eye-opening.' One game, for example, retails for £27.99 but had been thrown away completely intact. Some of the items still had price tags on them.
Fishing out a new-looking computer keyboard, Joe said: 'I don't even want to put it oh the floor, but they sling it straight in the bins!'
Even working fridges, freezers and washing-machines can be found dumped at the rear of some shops, waiting to be sent to landfill. The couple say they even have a flat-screen TV at home that was thrown out for having just one minor flaw.

They revealed: 'There are a lot of bins that we find that are worth a lot of money, but we keep them secret. They're all on our channel, but we keep those locations very secret.'
Joe says that there's a thriving – but secretive – community of dumpster divers: 'Whilst researching this alternative lifestyle for the documentary, I read a report that stated the hashtag #dumpsterdiving has received over 4.3 Billion Views on one social media platform alone, bringing to light just how quickly and popular this growing trend is!'

Sadly, a lot of items that have been thrown out by retailers are deliberately smashed or defaced with spray paint before being thrown in the bin.
'They break it all up and put it in and it's most likely just ex-display and they just thought, "Oh yeah, we'll chuck that in the bin,' the couple said.

Another member of the dumpster-diving community actually recorded toy shop staff deliberately destroying ex-demonstration items before throwing them into a bin. While many companies claim to regularly donate unsaleable stock to charity, 'it's lies,' the dumpster-divers insist.
So many items, especially consumer electronics, are thrown away because they have minor faults that can easily be fixed with the help of a YouTube tutorial, but most retailers won't bother to take the time to repair them and instead dump them into beans that have become viral Aladdin's Caves for the dumpster divers.
And every single thing they retrieve from a bin is one less item going to landfill: "A lot of people don't like what we're doing," they say, "but we're saving the planet,"

Line of Duty legend drops biggest hint so far 'official' BBC return will happen

Line of Duty star Adrian Dunbar has said it's likely the beloved crime drama is set to return to screens very soon. First airing in 2012, the British police procedural was created by Jed Mercurio and centred on Anti-Corruption Unit 12 (AC-12), a fictional team tasked with 'policing the police'. It starred Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, and Dunbar as DS Steve Arnott, DI Kate Fleming, and Superintendent Ted Hastings. The show – which ran for six seasons before wrapping up in 2021 – set viewing records for the BBC, becoming the highest-rated drama in the UK since 2002. It came to an end in 2021 when Steve and the team finally uncovered the identity of elusive criminal ringleader 'H.' Although the show hasn't been on air for four years, it was never officially cancelled, with its creator and stars expressing interest in reviving the show several times in recent years. Now Adrian has again weighed in on the rumours it's set to return – giving an update that will surely make fans ecstatic. In an interview with Radio Times, he said the major stars were all in constant communication. 'Myself, Martin and Vicky talk all the time, but Jed, not so much, because he's working on a project in the US at the minute,' he said. 'So yeah, we're very tight, and we'll meet up and have a curry, then the internet goes mad if we're all seen together. 'There were signs that we were going to be doing something next year. We're all waiting for the BBC to say, 'Yeah, it's happening'. An official confirmation is what we're waiting on, but all the signs are very good. Jed hasn't given us any updates – he's beavering away, I suspect.' He went on: 'One of the shocking things that I realised after series two or three was the writer can just do away with you. Vicky usually gets the scripts first, and she's a very quick reader, so she will start sending us cryptic messages that'll really unnerve me and Martin. Like, 'Oh my God, episode three – what happens to you!' In a recent interview with The Telegraph last week, he was also asked point-blank if a seventh season was on the cards. 'Oh, it's definitely coming back,' he said. 'Some time next year. We're just waiting for the BBC to announce it.' Although the actor, 66, has announced the show's return several times in the past few years, only for nothing to eventuate, he is certain this time. 'I know Jed is writing. And Martin and Vicky are very keen,' he added. Earlier this year, in April, The Sun first reported that Line of Duty was returning. 'This is the news Line of Duty fans have been waiting for since the sixth season left them deflated when it aired back in 2021,' a source told the publication. 'The BBC almost immediately requested more episodes to continue the story, but the success of the show meant Vicky, Martin and Adrian were instantly snapped up for other projects. 'But after several meetings with Jed and the production team, they've finally managed to clear space in their calendars next year to commit to making the show.' The publication claimed Jed had written most of the storyline for the new season, which it said would production later this year and could even air towards the end of 2026. Since the finale, talks of a subsequent season have repeatedly been raised. In 2023, Martin teased: 'We have a chat group called 'Line of Duty 6' and a while ago Jed changed the name of it to 'Line of Duty 7'.' He later said on his podcast, Restless Natives: 'We have had such a good run with it and a bit of you does go 'Let's walk away on a high', but we all want to work together again because we are so close.' Meanwhile, Vicky said she'd 'love' to revive the show. More Trending At the time Line of Duty's season 6 finale aired, the BBC's chief content officer Charlotte Moore said that she was 'looking forward to having a conversation with the team about where we go next and what the future of the series might be'. Metro has contacted the BBC for comment. Line of Duty is streaming on BBC iPlayer and Netflix. View More » A version of this article was originally published on July 29, 2025. Got a story? KFC and Greggs tease new collaboration and people are very excited

Foodies have been sent into a frenzy after Greggs and KFC shared a brief video in which they teased a 'summertime' collaboration and it's left people guessing what the link-up could mean British fast food lovers are licking their lips at the prospect of an unlikely collaboration that could be about to hit high streets across the country. It comes after bakery chain Greggs took to social media to tease a partnership with KFC. ‌ On both Instagram and TikTok, Greggs shared a brief video of one of its iconic sausage rolls being held up in front of a KFC restaurant's sign to the sounds of The Sundays' track Summertime and the line: "It's you and me in the summertime." In addition, Greggs added a caption: "Oddly satisfying. Is this a sign?" ‌ It prompted theories amongst excited foodies as to what a potential link-up between the two chains could entail. ‌ Writing in response on Instagram, one user pondered: "KFC inspired Chicken bake? Instead of creamy sauce in the current chicken bake it'll be KFC gravy? A KFC and gravy style bake? I'm invested." A second person mused: "Or... 'Chicken Bake Royale' - a buttery Greggs pastry filled with KFC's crispy chicken pieces, creamy gravy, and sweetcorn – finished with a flaky top crust. Like a chicken bake on steroids. ‌ A third demanded: "Arghhhhh stop teasing! What is it? Zinger roll? Tell me now." Whilst a fourth Instagram user suggested: "Sausage roll covered in KFC batter and fried to perfection and served with a KFC gravy based chippy curry sauce." And a fifth individual declared: "Okay, dipping a Greggs sausage roll in KFC's gravy (I realise while typing this it sounds a bit NSFW)... game changer." ‌ Whilst neither company is yet to confirm any collaboration, KFC responded to Greggs "oddly satisfying" remark, simply stating: "I agree." Adding further fuel to the fire, Greggs added: "Fancy seeing you here." Greggs' only previous high street collaboration came in 2022 when it teamed up with retailer, Primark to create a clothing range called 'Tasty'. ‌ The limited-edition range - a first for Greggs in its 83-year history - hit 60 Primark stores across the UK in February that year. Speaking at the time, Tim Kelly, Director of New Business Development at Primark said: "We want to give our customers incredible experiences in our stores and offer collections they can't find anywhere else, with brands we know they love. "We're thrilled to have teamed up with Greggs to bring the Tasty Café to our Birmingham store and give fans of the brand the chance to get their hands on the limited-edition clothing range."
