Crypto legend Roger Ver resurfaces? Dormant whale may have just moved $8.6 billion in Bitcoin after 14 years

Time of Indiaa day ago
Something big just happened in the crypto world, after lying quiet for 14 years, a crypto whale, someone who is an early adopter holding a huge amount of Bitcoin, suddenly moved $8.6 billion worth of coins in just one day, as per a report. Many in the crypto community believe this mysterious whale could be
Roger Ver
, one of the earliest investors of Bitcoin, according to a Tom's Hardware report.
Crypto Whale Awakens: $8.6 Billion in Bitcoin Moves After 14 Years
Eight Bitcoin wallets, each holding 10,000 BTC, transferred their holdings as of July 5, totalling 80,000 Bitcoins, as per the Tom's Hardware report. These wallets date all the way back to Bitcoin's early days between 2009 and 2011, when the cryptocurrency was still new and worth only pennies, according to the report. Back then, whoever owned these coins invested less than $210,000, and now those coins are worth over $8.6 billion, as reported by Tom's Hardware.
According to the report, the previous biggest Bitcoin transaction was just 3,700 BTC, and this new movement of 10,000 BTC at once broke that record by a huge margin.

Speculation Points to Roger Ver
Crypto analyst Arkham
pointed out that all these wallets belong to the same person, but no one knows exactly who, but speculation is growing that it could be Roger Ver, as that's what @SaniExp on social media X claims with "99%" assurance, as per Tom's Hardware report. A few even speculated that he executed the "sale" as part of a potential plea deal with the US government, as he is wanted in the United States on tax fraud charges and, earlier this year, appealed to US President Donald Trump for a pardon to avoid extradition, as reported by Tom's Hardware.
Live Events
A 14-Million Percent Return
The movement had started around early Friday, when two wallets that had been inactive for 14 years suddenly transferred 10,000 BTC each to new addresses, as reported by Tom's Hardware. The original wallets date back to April 3, 2011, when they initially received a large amount of Bitcoin, when one Bitcoin was valued at only 78 cents, so that means 10,000 BTC would be worth $7,800, which is almost a 14 million percent jump, according to the report.

Then after eight hours, six more wallets from the same era, with each containing 10,000 BTC, were moved without any prior test transactions, reported Tom's Hardware. These holdings were from May 4, 2011, when Bitcoin had increased to $3.25, so totally, these eight wallets add up to 80,000 Bitcoin, and the entire stash is believed to have been held by the mysterious whale, according to the report.
FAQs
Could Roger Ver really be the whale?
It's unconfirmed, but some crypto analysts and social media users believe he's the most likely candidate.
Why would Ver move the Bitcoin now?
Some speculate it could be related to his legal troubles, possibly tied to a deal or to protect his assets.

Which crypto will explode in the 2nd half of 2025? Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and 4 More tokens to buy and hold

The second half of 2025 is expected to bring sharp upward movement across several major crypto assets. From established giants to rising altcoins, investor focus is shifting toward projects with strong fundamentals. Bitcoin and Ethereum continue to dominate in terms of market cap and institutional confidence. Meanwhile, Solana, Avalanche, Chainlink, and Little Pepe are being positioned as strategic long-term holds. Among them, Little Pepe is gaining attention for its blend of meme culture and blockchain utility. Bitcoin and Ethereum Set to Lead the Market with Massive Surges Bitcoin (BTC) currently trades above $109,000 and continues to benefit from growing institutional adoption and halving effects. Analysts cite its decreasing supply rate and ETF momentum as key drivers for continued appreciation. Ethereum (ETH), priced at $2,606, is showing strength due to the increasing adoption of Layer 2 chains and DeFi platforms. Ethereum's transition to proof-of-stake and EVM expansion supports its network activity and scalability. Both BTC and ETH are forecasted to lead the crypto market's next bullish phase in 2025. The 4 Best Tokens to Buy and Hold in H2 2025 Buy and hold is a long-term investment strategy where users purchase crypto and retain it over months or years. The method reduces exposure to short-term volatility while allowing assets to mature as development progresses. Among the top 4 tokens being noted for their long-term potential in the second half of 2025 are: 1. Solana (SOL) Solana (SOL) is trading at $155 and is gaining visibility with the introduction of a U.S. Solana ETF proposal. Known for its high throughput and developer-friendly environment, Solana supports fast-growing DeFi and NFT ecosystems. Its enhanced scalability and low fees continue to drive increased institutional and retail interest. 2. Avalanche (AVAX) Avalanche (AVAX) trades near $19 and maintains its status as a key Ethereum alternative. The Avalanche consensus model allows for sub-second finality, supporting enterprise use cases and decentralised applications. Ongoing integrations and cross-chain bridges are expected to expand its ecosystem in 2025. 3. Chainlink (LINK) Priced at $13.87, this digital asset leads the decentralised oracle sector and secures billions in DeFi protocols. Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) continues to gain traction, adding new utility layers. Its technology allows smart contracts to access off-chain data securely, strengthening its role in decentralised infrastructure. 4. Little Pepe ($LILPEPE) Being the only meme coin among the group with a fully operational Layer 2 blockchain. Built on Ethereum compatibility, the network offers ultra-low gas fees, high speeds, and staking features. Unlike traditional meme coins, Little Pepe includes sniper bot protection, zero trading tax, and DAO voting for community governance. $LILPEPE: Layer 2 Power Meets Meme Utility Little Pepe has a total supply of 100 billion tokens, with zero tax on trades and a structured tokenomics model, which is rare among meme tokens. It supports staking rewards, DAO governance, sniper bot protection, and a Meme Launchpad for creators to build new meme assets. Future integrations include NFT support and cross-chain compatibility. The project is currently in Stage 4 of its presale, with the token priced at $0.0013 per LILPEPE, which is a notable increase from its initial price of $0.001. A total of $3.4 million has been raised so far out of the $4,475,000 target. Out of 3,750,000,000 tokens, 2.9 billion have already been sold in the current stage. Previous stages sold out quickly at prices of $0.0010, $0.0011, and $0.0012. The next presale stage will begin at $0.0014. Source: Little Pepe Token distribution includes 26.5% for presale, 10% liquidity, 13.5 billion for staking, 10 billion for CEX reserves, 10% for marketing, and remaining 30% for future developments. The blockchain is engineered for EVM compatibility and ultra-low fees, with all systems pointing to a growing network ecosystem. $777,000 Giveaway Now Live for Presale Buyers To celebrate its growing adoption, Little Pepe launched a $777,000 giveaway campaign. Ten winners will each receive $77,000 worth of LILPEPE tokens by participating in the presale with their preferred amount. The giveaway is open during the presale only, and anyone who contributes qualifies automatically. No minimum buy amount is required to participate. Purchases can be made using ETH, USDT (ERC20), or with a credit/debit card through a DeFi wallet. The presale began on June 10 and currently shows a 78% rating as the next stage nears. The demand in early phases reflects increased investor confidence in utility-backed meme projects. Conclusion: Real Utility Drives Little Pepe Ahead of the Pack Bitcoin and Ethereum will stimulate the growth of the second half of 2025 due to their current dominance in the marketplace and adoption. There is a good case to hold and buy Solana and Avalanche, and Chainlink on the basis of their infrastructure and innovation. But a single meme token is fully blockchain-anonymous and features a working Layer 2 network: Little Pepe. It's increasing presale, a zero-tax rule, staking, and governance through DAO have short-term and long-term attractiveness. On the next level, NFTs, cross-chain capability, and Meme Launchpad tools are under development, making Little Pepe an effective choice among serious crypto investors in 2025. Crypto price today: Bitcoin holds near $108k amid geopolitical cues; Altcoins slide up to 6%

The cryptocurrency market edged lower on Tuesday, with Bitcoin and major altcoins seeing mild declines amid a mix of geopolitical developments, macroeconomic events, and ongoing institutional interest. As of 11:42 am IST, Bitcoin was trading 0.7% lower at $108,209, while Ethereum dropped 0.67% to $2,554, according to CoinMarketCap. The global crypto market capitalisation dipped 0.9% to $3.34 trillion. Among notable altcoins, BNB, Solana, Tron, Dogecoin, Cardano, Sui, and Chainlink declined up to 3%. Hyperliquid was among the biggest losers, falling over 6% to $37.48. Despite the subdued price action, analysts said underlying sentiment remains largely bullish, supported by improving global cues and sustained institutional activity. 'Bitcoin is holding firm near $108,000 as global sentiment improves following Trump's decision to delay the tariff deadline to August 1st,' said Edul Patel, Co-founder and CEO of Mudrex. 'Bitcoin futures have regained strength, with aggregated open interest rising 7% over the past month—marking the first sustained uptick since May.' CoinSwitch's Markets Desk noted that Bitcoin had briefly touched intraday highs near $109,572 before retreating, largely due to fresh macro and geopolitical headlines. 'President Trump's new tariffs on Japan and South Korea and the delay in trade deadline from July 9 to August 1 triggered some caution in the market,' the firm said in a note. Ethereum also eased from its high of $2,585 to around $2,535, though analysts pointed to continued optimism due to staking demand and ETF exposure. Sathvik Vishwanath, Co-founder and CEO of Unocoin, highlighted that Bitcoin's technicals remain strong. 'RSI is near 55, and BTC is holding above key moving averages. Resistance lies at $109K–$110K, and if breached, we could see a rally toward $112K–$115K. On the downside, a drop below $107K may lead to a correction toward $105K.' Riya Sehgal, Research Analyst at Delta Exchange, flagged a corrective phase for Bitcoin. 'BTC is facing rejection from the supply zone between $109,680 and $110,400 and is currently under pressure below $108,484. Support lies at $107,306. A breakdown could drag prices toward $105,220.' On Ethereum, Sehgal noted support at $2,520 and resistance at $2,600. 'A break below $2,500 could push ETH to $2,320, while a recovery above $2,600 opens the path to $2,720,' she added. Despite the price consolidation, institutional investors appear to be accumulating digital assets. Spot Bitcoin ETFs saw inflows of $216.5 million as of July 7, while Ethereum ETFs attracted $62.1 million. Solana ETFs added $8.8 million. 'Semler Scientific acquired an additional 187 BTC, and Bit Digital reallocated fully into Ethereum, now holding over 100,000 ETH,' Sehgal said. 'These flows reflect continued institutional confidence despite short-term volatility.' Also Read: Crypto Gems: Top crypto assets to watch & buy in July 2025

Crypto markets jittery on Trump's tariffs; analysts see short-term impact

Bitcoin price today, Tuesday, July 8, 2025: The crypto markets were under pressure following US President Donald Trump's announcement of hefty tariffs on 14 countries including Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan and others effective August 1. Market analysts, however, remain optimistic about the long run and expect the impact on the crypto market to be negative only in the short term. Last checked, Bitcoin (BTC) was trading at around $108,016.38, lower by 1.04 per cent, with a 24-hour trading volume of $46.36 billion, according to data from CoinMarketCap. Over the past 24 hours, the flagship cryptocurrency has fluctuated in the range of $107,499.56 to $109,209.01. Its market capitalisation stood at $2.14 trillion. Bitcoin faces resistance at $110,000 The Trump's tariff announcement, Vikram Subburaj, CEO, Giottus, said, will impact the crypto market negatively in the short term. "Even as Bitcoin consolidates above $107,500, a retracement to $104,000 levels may flush out the bearish sentiment and set the stage for a strong rally later this month," said Subburaj. For Bitcoin, the immediate resistance to overcome to confirm the reversal, Subburaj believes, is placed at $110,000 levels. Edul Patel, Co-founder and CEO of Mudrex, on the other hand, remains bullish citing technical factors. Notably, Bitcoin futures have regained strength, with aggregated open interest rising by 7 per cent over the past 30 days marking the first sustained uptick since May this year. This uptick, Patel said, reflects growing trader confidence and increased appetite for volume and leverage. "With bullish sentiment intact, a move past $110,500 could trigger a breakout, while the support has moved up to $107,100," said Patel. Ethereum, and other altcoins trade lower The sentiment extended towards the other altcoins too. Ethereum (ETH), trading lower by 1.2 per cent at $2,544 levels. The world's second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation has moved in the range of $2,517.90 - $2,586.74 in the last 24 hours. Among other popular cryptocurrencies Hyperliquid (HYPE) was trading about 6.28 per cent lower, while Cardano (ADA) declined by 1.66 per cent.
