Woman ‘sends 21 hoax bomb threats' to Gujarat-based institutions ‘to frame man'

Indian Express23-06-2025
The Ahmedabad Cyber Crime police on Monday arrested a senior consultant at Deloitte, Chennai, for allegedly sending 21 hoax bomb threats to schools, a medical college, and a stadium in Gujarat — all in an 'attempt to frame a man she was in love with, but who had married someone else.'
The accused, identified as Rene Joshilda from Chennai, allegedly created fake email IDs in the name of Divij Prabhakar, the person she intended to implicate, and sent a series of threatening messages between May and June 2025.
According to the police, Joshilda also falsely claimed responsibility for the Air India flight AI-171 crash in Ahmedabad on June 12, stating in an email that the pilots were 'working for her'.
One of the first threats was received by Geneva Liberal School on June 3, with the email stating: 'Police are sleeping, they cannot do anything… We are going to blast a bomb in your school to bring to police's attention about the rapist who raped the girl in Lemon Tree hotel in Hyderabad in 2023.'
Following a complaint from the school, an FIR was lodged at the Cyber Crime police station in Ahmedabad. The investigation led officers to Chennai, where Joshilda was arrested. She allegedly confessed to sending the emails and to fabricating multiple IDs in Prabhakar's name.
'She had a one-sided relationship with Divij Prabhakar, who married someone else in February 2025,' said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sharad Singhal at a press conference. 'To frame him, she created multiple email accounts in his name and used them to send bomb threats across the country. She also used the dark web to mask her digital footprint.'
Joshilda, a robotics engineer by qualification, allegedly sent threats not only in Gujarat but to 11 other states, targeting events involving VIP movement or large gatherings.
'These threats misdirected police resources and spread panic among citizens,' said JCP Singhal. 'Her arrest is significant, especially with the Jagannath Rath Yatra scheduled in Ahmedabad on June 27.'
In Gujarat alone, Joshilda is said to have sent four threat emails to Geneva Liberal School on June 3, 5, 12, and 15, three emails to Divya Jyoti School in Bopal on June 14 and 15, and 13 threats to the Narendra Modi Stadium on May 7 and 13.
One of the emails to the stadium read: *'Bomb successfully planted in Narendra Modi Stadium… India has 1,500 trained military and army involved in this mission for Operation Sindoor. Women officers take the lead… India is prepared with more drones to attack…'
On June 12, following the Air India crash, she also allegedly sent an email to BJ Medical College: 'I think now you know power. Like we sent you a mail yesterday, we crashed the Air India plane with our former CM… Well done to our pilot. Now you know we are not playing.'
The Gujarat Police are coordinating with counterparts in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, Bihar, Telangana, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, where similar hoax threats were reportedly sent.

Indian man beaten up in racist attack in Dublin

AI image LONDON: An Indian man was hospitalised after he was brutally beaten up and had his trousers pulled down by a gang in a violent and racist attack in Dublin at the weekend after being falsely accused of inappropriate behaviour with children. The man, an Indian national in his 40s, was set upon by a gang of male teenagers on Saturday at 6pm and left covered in blood, bleeding from multiple wounds, before passersby came to his aid and he was rushed to hospital. TOI understands the man works for Amazon. He arrived in Dublin three weeks ago. A group falsely accused him of misbehaving with children in a nearby playground, which then led to the unprovoked attack. 'Gardaí in Tallaght were alerted to an incident at Parkhill Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on the evening of Saturday, July 19, at approximately 6pm. Gardaí attended the scene and a male, aged in his 40s was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with injuries. Investigations are ongoing,' the Gardaí (Irish national police) said. Fine Gael councillor for Tallaght South Baby Pereppadan met the man after his release from hospital on Sunday. He told the Irish Independent: 'He couldn't speak much because of the shock he was in. He is not taking any visitors at the moment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo I am calling for more Garda presence in the area. Small incidents like these are happening frequently in Tallaght. People need to understand that many Indian people moving to Ireland are here on work permits, to study and work in the healthcare sector or in IT and so on, providing critical skills. ' Sinn Féin TD for Dublin South-West Seán Crowe said the 'violent and racist attack' must be condemned, and must be the last. 'The attack was vile and utterly unacceptable. An individual going about their day was set upon and now faces life-altering injuries simply because of the colour of his skin. Some residents are increasingly nervous to leave their homes due to this type of behaviour. My message to the young men who carried out this vicious attack is this; you're not a patriot. You're certainly not standing up for women and children. You are sowing hate, fear, and division in communities,' Crowe said. A protest organised by anti-racism and pro-migrant groups is scheduled for July 26. The attack has left the Indian community in Ireland feeling very unsafe and unwelcome and they are calling on the Irish govt to facilitate engagement with immigrant and minority communities to address growing safety concerns. Streetlink Homeless Support in Dublin said: 'This was a hate crime, plain and simple. Sadly, it is not an isolated case; it is part of a growing wave of racist violence encouraged by far-right groups in Ireland.'

Trump posts fake video of Obama in jail, declares ‘treason' and ‘crime of the century' in AI-driven blitz

US President Donald Trump on Monday(July 21) shared an AI-generated video depicting former President Barack Obama being arrested by the FBI in the Oval Office, reigniting a polarizing political narrative and raising urgent questions about deepfakes and election disinformation. Posted to Truth Social, the video opens with real clips of Obama stating, 'Especially the President is above the law,' a statement that is quickly contrasted with other Democratic leaders, including Joe Biden , Hillary Clinton, and Kamala Harris , all of whom are shown saying, 'No one is above the law.' Tulsi Gabbard's accusations The release comes just days after Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard delivered a criminal referral to the Department of Justice, accusing Obama-era officials of orchestrating a 'treasonous conspiracy' during the 2016 election. Live Events According to Gabbard, 114 pages of declassified, redacted emails indicate Obama's national security team 'manipulated intelligence assessments' to fabricate the narrative of Russian interference aiding Trump's victory. She alleges that this operation was intended to 'subvert the will of the American people.' 'No matter how powerful, every person involved must be prosecuted,' Gabbard wrote on X. 'We are turning over all documents to DOJ for immediate action.' Trump responded by praising Gabbard, calling her findings 'irrefutable proof' and labeling Obama the 'ringleader' behind what he dubbed 'the crime of the century.' Obama's guilty of treason During an Oval Office press conference with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday, Trump pointed directly at his predecessor: 'If you read the papers, Obama started it. He orchestrated it. Biden, Comey, Clapper, Brennan, they were all in the room. This was treason,' Trump declared. 'Barack Hussein Obama, have you heard of him? Guilty. It's not a question anymore.' "They tried to rig the election, and they got caught. Then they rigged the election in 2020. I knew I won that election by a landslide. I did it for the third time and won by a huge margin. Every swing state was won by votes. But I won just the same in 2020. And look at the damage that was done," the US president said. The president added that 'thousands' of additional documents would soon be released, allegedly supporting his claims. Legal experts, however, note that no formal charges have been filed against Obama, nor has the DOJ confirmed any active investigation into the former president. The AI video quickly went viral, with 'Arrest Obama' trending on X and public debate erupting over the ethical limits of synthetic media in politics. Media watchdogs and fact-checkers were quick to label the video as manipulated content, warning of its potential to shape public opinion dangerously. 'This deepfake is political disinformation at its worst,' said Nina Jankowicz, disinformation analyst and former executive director of the US Disinformation Governance Board. 'It erodes public trust, damages reputations, and poses serious threats to democratic stability.' Platforms like Meta, X, and YouTube have pledged to flag or remove synthetic content that misleads voters, but enforcement remains inconsistent. Despite Trump's insistence on guilt, legal scholars across the board confirm that no charges have been brought against Barack Obama, and the material cited by Gabbard has yet to undergo public or legal vetting.
