Patanjali restrained from running ‘disparaging' ads about Dabur product

The Delhi High Court on Thursday restrained yoga guru Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurved from running allegedly disparaging advertisements about a product manufactured by consumer goods company Dabur, PTI reported.
Justice Mini Pushkarna passed the interim order on a petition filed by Dabur, which alleged that Patanjali Ayurved was disparaging its Chyawanprash product by claiming that no other manufacturer had the knowledge to prepare it.
Chyawanprash is an Ayurvedic formulation made from a blend of sugar, honey, ghee, Indian gooseberry jam and several herbs and spices. It is sold as a dietary supplement.
The matter arose after Patanjali Ayurved telecast an advertisement featuring Ramdev, in which he questioned the authenticity of Chyawanprash products sold by other companies, Bar and Bench reported.
In its petition, Dabur objected to references in the advertisements that described a '40-herb' Chyawanprash as 'ordinary'. This was a reference to Dabur's product that advertised itself as using '40+ herbs', it alleged.
Dabur also noted that it was misleading and harmful to label other brands as 'ordinary'.
The petition alleged that such statements misrepresented Patanjali Ayurved's own formulation, questioned Dabur's adherence to Ayurvedic tradition and branded Dabur's product as inferior, Bar and Bench reported.
The advertisements undermined confidence in a category of products governed by strict regulatory standards, the petition said. The advertisements also made 'untrue' claims that other manufacturers did not have the knowledge of Ayurvedic texts and the formulae used to prepare Chyawanprash, Dabur added.
The consumer goods company also claimed that Patanjali Ayurved was a habitual offender, citing earlier orders in contempt proceedings against the company for similar advertising conduct.
The court will hear the matter next on July 14.
In April, the Delhi High Court had ordered Ramdev to take down advertisements in which he claimed that food company Hamdard's drink Rooh Afza was being used to orchestrate 'sharbat jihad'.
In May, a day after the court warned Ramdev of contempt proceedings for publishing a new video allegedly targeting Hamdard, the yoga guru said that he will not make statements or publish social media posts targeting Rooh Afza.

New Delhi: Indian businesses are hoping for a breakthrough in trade negotiations with the US as the deadline for higher reciprocal tariffs approaches, said Rajiv Memani, chairman and chief executive of EY India, who has recently taken over as president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for 2025–26. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Memani underscored the urgency of boosting Indian competitiveness through regulatory and business reforms. 'India's economy is expected to grow at 6.4–6.7% this fiscal,' he said, in line with projections in the Economic Survey. Highlighting India's ongoing trade diplomacy, Memani said the country has been actively signing free trade agreements and that 'very good progress' has been made in negotiations with the European Union. 'I think India is dealing more with non-tariff barriers in the EU rather than tariff barriers—and how those non-tariff barriers can be simplified,' he said. On the US front, Memani pointed to the 9 July deadline for concluding a bilateral trade deal, which would avert a sharp increase in tariffs on Indian exports. 'In the case of the US, we have a date,' he said, referring to the pending imposition of a 26% reciprocal tariff that would replace the current 10% baseline if no agreement is reached. US President Donald Trump's 'reciprocal tariffs' policy—announced in April—seeks to impose higher import duties on countries that levy steeper tariffs on American goods, triggering a wave of trade renegotiations. A broad 10% baseline tariff was introduced, with higher rates applied to countries such as China and Vietnam. A temporary 90-day pause was allowed for bilateral negotiations ahead of the 9 July deadline. 'Most businesses, most CII members are very keen that an agreement or an FTA—or some tranche of an FTA—gets signed, because people are wary of a tariff being imposed. And I think there is a reasonable sense of confidence that something may happen in the not-too-distant future. Those FTA engagements are going on very well,' Memani added. Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he was expecting a deal with India, 'in which case, there will be much less tariffs.' Memani cautioned, however, that even as India expands its trade ties, competition from the Western world is intensifying. 'Tariffs will go down for a large part of the Western world, and Indian industry will be facing more intense competition,' he said. 'Therefore, the urgency to do reforms, the urgency to do business reforms, and the urgency to enhance competitiveness is very high. We are seeing much greater receptivity and openness in the government to look at ease of doing business,' Memani noted. He added that India must focus on both labour-intensive and advanced manufacturing, while also preparing for the challenges posed by artificial intelligence. 'One issue that needs attention is how AI will impact the efficiency of Indian industry—and how related challenges such as employment are dealt with,' he said. CII expects India's real GDP to grow by 6.4-6.7% in FY26. 'This projection, generated through CII's GDP growth model, reinforces India's position as the fastest-growing major economy in the world,' Memani said. To ensure India doesn't fall behind in the AI race, CII has proposed setting up a National AI Authority to coordinate policy, infrastructure, and adoption. The body would also support investments in semiconductor fabrication facilities, cloud infrastructure, and AI skilling programs, he said. Given the rise in global protectionism and trade uncertainty, Memani emphasized that domestic consumption remains India's primary growth driver. 'India is becoming increasingly reliant on it to sustain momentum,' he said.

Of this, BMW sold 7,477 units and MINI 297 units, it said in a statement."We are on a fast track, posting over 10 per cent growth despite a challenging environment as we continue to unfold new opportunities in the luxury segment," said Vikram Pawah, President and CEO at BMW Group India With the company's thrust on electric mobility, BMW Group India witnessed a phenomenal 234 per cent growth in EV sales, he added."Among SAVs (sports activity vehicles) as well as sedans, our long wheelbase luxury models are in great demand," Pawah BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase was the highest-selling electric car during this period, followed by the flagship BMW i7, the company said, adding that electric cars now hold 18 per cent share in total sales of BMW Group long wheelbase BMW models saw 159 per cent growth in the first half of the year. This includes the BMW 7 Series, 5 Series, and 3 Series, as well as BMW long wheelbase models account for 47 per cent share in total sales, it said, adding that strategically positioning these models across its portfolio, BMW Group India proactively ascertained customers' needs and provided the ideal luxury product in each BMW 5 Series was the highest-selling BMW sedan during H1, with close to 20 per cent share in the BMW 3 Series retained the class-leading position in the Indian premium sedan segment, the company also said its 7 Series and i7 models are leading in their respective segments while the X7 has crossed over 5,000 deliveries since to the company, its SAVs recorded a double-digit growth of 17 per cent in H1 2025. Compared to 56 per cent in Q1, their share in sales increased to 59 per cent in Q2, BMW Group said, adding that the X1 model was the highest selling SAV not just for BMW (over 30 per cent share in sales), but in the Indian premium compact MINI brand of cars delivered 297 units in H1, 2025. With Mini Cooper S as the highest-selling model during the period, seeing a growth of over 60 per cent as compared to H1 Cooper S and the Countryman E models commanded almost equal share in sales, it Motorrad delivered 2,569 motorcycles in H1 2025. The BMW G 310 RR was the most popular smart-cc bike, it said and added that in the GS adventure world, the BMW 900 GS / GSA and the BMW 1300 GS / GSA models were the best-selling models.
