One group of social welfare recipients can double their weekly payment by meeting one criteria.
There are different rates available for those receiving Jobseeker's Allowance, depending on their age and status.
However, if you are aged between 18 and 24 and are not living independently, you are entitled to a maximum personal rate of €153.70, with an increase for an adult dependant of €153.70 - which means that you can double your weekly payment.
What is Jobseeker's Allowance?
Jobseeker's Allowance is a payment to people who are unemployed. If you are unemployed, you can apply for Jobseeker's Allowance (JA) or Jobseeker's Benefit (JB). You can apply for JA, if you have been on JB and your payment has ended. You can also apply for JA, if you are only entitled to a reduced rate of JB and would be better off on JA (this is known as Optional JA.)
Jobseeker's Allowance is a means-tested payment, so your income must be below a certain amount to get JA. If you are parenting alone, you can apply for the Jobseeker's Transitional payment (JST). It provides support to lone parents who have young children aged between 7 and 13.
How to qualify for Jobseeker's Allowance?
To get JA, you must be aged 18 or over and under 66. You must also:
Be fully unemployed (or work for 3 days a week or less)
Be available for full-time work and genuinely seeking work
Be capable of work
Pass a means test
Meet the habitual residence condition
You can find out more information about these criteria here.
Rate of Jobseeker's Allowance
The rate of JA that you are entitled to depends on your age and living arrangements. If you are aged 25 and over, you are entitled to a maximum personal rate of €244, with an increase for an adult dependant of €162. If you are aged between 18 and 24 and living independently, you are eligible for the same rates.
Both of these groupos are also eligible for the Child Support Payment too. If you are aged between 18 and 24 and are not living independently, you are entitled to a maximum personal rate of €153.70, with an increase for an adult dependant of €153.70.

Ireland's oldest woman to be laid to rest this Friday after passing away at 108

Ireland's oldest woman, who lived through the War of Independence, the Civil War and World War II, has passed away at the age of 108. Sarah Coyle, who was understood to be Ireland's oldest woman, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday evening, just days away from celebrating her 109th birthday, DublinLive reports. Sarah took the mantle as Ireland's oldest woman earlier this year after Ruby Druce, who was previously Ireland's oldest woman, passed away at the age of 109 in March. Born on July 24, 1916, in Knockatomcoyle, Co Wicklow, Sarah was one of 10 siblings, two of whom also reached over the age of 100. Sarah, whose maiden name was Byrne, married her husband Tom Coyle in the 50s and moved to Drumcondra, where the two lived happily together until he passed away in 1986. Mrs Coyle, who had received eight presidential medals each year after she turned 100, lost her sight when she had turned 40, but this did not stop her love of gardening and she had a keen fondness for radio. Sarah will be dearly missed by her adoring children and son-in-law, her sister, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as all of her extended family and friends. She is pre-deceased by her eight siblings and husband. A reposal will take place at Sarah's daughter's home on Thursday, July 17, from 5pm to 7pm. Removal to St. Brigid's Church, Blanchardstown will take place on Friday morning, July 18, arriving for Requiem Mass at 10am followed by burial in Glasnevin Cemetery. Sarah's Funeral Mass may be viewed online here. Only family flowers are requested. Subscribe to our newsletter for the latest news from the Irish Mirror direct to your inbox: Sign up here.

Air fryer recall issued as 60,000 in Ireland told to stop using product immediately

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info A recall has been issued for a staggering 60,000 air fryers in Ireland after it was discovered that there is a manufacturing defect associated with the product that could result in a fire risk. The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) issued a warning this morning for any consumers who own certain models of Tower air fryers to stop using them immediately. Almost 60,000 affected models were sold in retailers across the Republic of Ireland. The problem with the product is that there is a manufacturing defect that could cause the air fryer to overheat, possibly resulting in fires and risking injury or death. Thankfully, no such incidents have been reported in Ireland yet but there have been reports of the same products catching fire in the United Kingdom. The five affected models of air fryers are as follows: T17023 Tower 2.2Ltr Manual Air Fryer T17061BLK Tower 4Ltr Manual Air Fryer T17067 Tower 4Ltr Digital Air Fryer T17087 Tower 2Ltr Compact Manual Air Fryer T17129L Vortx 8L Dual Basket Air Fryer To find the model number of your air fryer, unplug the product and check the appliance rating label which can be found at the bottom of the appliance. This number will begin with the letter T. If you have one of the above models in your kitchen, unplug it and stop using it immediately. Affected consumers are advised to contact Tower Housewares, which can be done on the website or by emailing towerproduct@ The implicated air fryers were manufactured between 2020 and 2024 and were sold in various retailers including Argos, Tesco Ireland, DID, Dealz, Lidl, Amazon, as well as the Tower Housewares website. Other retailers may also be included. Grainne Griffin, director of communications at the CCPC said: "This recall covers five Tower air fryer models with a dangerous manufacturing defect that could cause the models to overheat. "Almost 60,000 affected units have been sold in Ireland so it's vital that consumers who have a Tower air fryer check their model. If their model is affected, it is not safe to use." Additional information about product recalls can be found on the CCPC website.
