Ryan O'Kane completes stunning Sligo Rovers comeback to break Cork City hearts as Roy Keane looks on
But manager Ger Nash was denied an overdue triumph by Owen Elding and Patrick McClean's strikes.
City came close to a late winner only for Alex Nolan's wonderstrike to cannon off the crossbar. Rovers then countered, with Ryan O'Kane burying the 89th-minute winner.
Despite 11 remaining games, those goals may have all but condemned City to the drop in front of a 2,673 crowd, which included Roy Keane. They were booed off by the Shed End at the final whistle.
Sligo's recent success has been built on early goals, but Cork grabbed the first at Turner's Cross. Kitt Nelson zipped a quality ball into McLaughlin's feet. He jinked onto his left and deceived Sam Sargeant by whipping the ball inside the near post for his second of the season.
Cathal O'Sullivan was an early casualty as he was helped off, worryingly, rubbing his left knee after attempting to contest a high ball.
Maguire and Nelson had further chances as City were comfortable until the break to hold their first half-time lead in 19 games.
Brann was alert to make a flying save on the resumption as Will Fitzgerald's hit looked destined for the top corner. Fitzgerald headed their next chance over.
From that goal kick, Nelson and Nolan combined down the right to drag the ball back for Maguire to finish at the second attempt.
The two-goal cushion lasted just four minutes. Sligo exploited the vast tracts of empty space around the tiring City defence as Jad Hakiki fed Elding, who finished his ninth of the season after Brann's initial save.
Brann again came up trumps to push around the post from Hakiki, but from Will Fitzgerald's corner, McClean directed a bullet header into the far corner.
And once Nolan's effort bounced away from danger, Sligo came up with a late dagger through O'Kane.

Sligo has a new European champion as Cian McMunn wins gold at European showjumping event
Sligo's McMunn took gold and Tipperary's Charlie Flynn the bronze medal with HK Zena on a hugely dramatic afternoon in Le Mans which saw four riders in a jump-off for the three medals. After five thrilling days of top-class jumping in which Ireland secured a team silver after being pipped in a jump-off by the British, it all came down to the final four combinations to decide who would win gold, silver and bronze. McMunn and Daisy Breen, who is the daughter of Irish senior star Shane Breen, were the only two to remain clear since Wednesday, and it came down to speed and precision here to decide the champion. McMunn was first to jump and was flawless on Esperando SK in a time of 39.25, meaning Breen would need to be quick and clear. When she dropped a pole halfway through her round, it meant McMunn was European Pony Champion. Before that, Flynn and Sophia Rogers, themselves the only two riders to only have four faults for the week, went head-to-head to decide the bronze medal. Flynn was first of the four back into the arena with HK Zena and he went out hard, jumping clear in a time of 38.76 seconds and really put it up to his competitor. Rogers, with pressure on, had no option but to follow Flynn's lead and go out with pace in abundance. She flew home to the last but couldn't match the Irish teen's time and finished clear in 39.41 seconds, meaning Flynn was bronze medallist. It marks a remarkable week for the Irish jumpers after their silver win on Friday and rounds off a magnificent campaign for the new management team of Horse Sport Ireland Youth Show Jumping Lead Consultant Flannelly and Youth Athlete Liaison Liz Brennan. Flannelly said: 'This is just incredible – Cian and Charlie have jumped spectacularly well all week and when the pressure was really on they showed how much it meant to them, keeping their composure and jumping two quick, clear rounds. 'They are both fantastic young men and deserve every success – I'm so proud of them. It was a great achievement to win silver here on Friday as a team and I think, secretly, the two lads had that extra bit of determination to not let being beaten in a jump-off happen again. They've produced the goods and guaranteed gold and bronze medals, it's amazing. 'We've had a superb campaign this year, and it's all down to our support staff on the ground, the grooms, our vet Tim, the team in Horse Sport Ireland and of course, the families of these riders, who make these days possible. We appreciate them so very much and we also appreciate our sponsors – this couldn't be done without them.'

'We had 24-hour armed guards' - Shamrock Rovers warned ahead of Kosovo trip
Shamrock Rovers have been told to prepare for an extremely hostile atmosphere in Kosovo this week. The Hoops are flying out on Wednesday to face Ballkani in Thursday's Europa Conference League third round, first-leg clash. It's a step into the unknown as no League of Ireland side has faced a team from Kosovo before, but Derry City boss Tiernan Lynch knows all about them. When Lynch was Larne manager between 2017 and 2024, he faced Kosovan teams on three occasions, and played Ballkani twice - in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, Larne were hammered 7-1 on aggregate after losing 4-1 at home and 3-0 away. The following year, it was a tighter affair after losing 1-0 at home but winning 1-0 in Kosovo and Larne then won on penalties. Larne also played in the same Stadiumi Fadil Vokrri that Shamrock Rovers will visit this week and Lynch has already given Stephen Bradley the lowdown. The first year we took a bit of a pasting and couldn't really deal with the hostility, we had 24-hour armed guards and all that goes with that. 'But Rovers are probably much more experienced than we were at that stage, and I think it's something they will deal with ok.' Rovers beat Derry City 2-0 at Tallaght Stadium on Sunday to open up a 10-point lead at the top of the Premier Division. And before that encounter, Lynch was happy to share some information on his own Ballkani experiences with Bradley. I'm watching them and they remind me of Celje.' Graham Burke and Jack Byrne were not in the Rovers squad for Sunday's win over Derry and both will be assessed before Wednesday's flight to Kosovo. Bradley said: 'I know if I needed Graham to play, he could play and he wants to play, but I just don't want to risk someone and then we lose him for the next two months. 'He felt his quad. He said it was strange, he was out with his kids in the park, he just went home, lying in his chair and felt tight. That's usually how Graham gets injured, it's never a pull, it's always a little thing and he said, 'I just felt it'. So you have to listen to his body. 'He's been so good for us this year, he's the best in the country. I just don't want to lose him for a period of time. We'll make that decision closer to travel, but I won't take any chances with him. If I think there's any doubt, he won't travel. Jack is fine, a little knock but he's fine.' Meanwhile, Derry City boss Lynch is not throwing in the towel on the title race even though the third-placed Candystripes are now 11-points behind Rovers. Lynch said: 'You always have to believe. I'm not going to stand here and tell lies, 10 points clear with 10 games to go is going to be really difficult. But until I'm told mathematically that we are completely out of it, we have to go out in every game and have that belief.'
