Quinn Priester throws 7 dominant innings as Brewers blank Rockies 5-0
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Quinn Priester struck out a career-high 11 batters in seven innings of one-hit ball, Joey Ortiz homered for the third time in four games, and the Milwaukee Brewers extended their winning streak to four with a 5-0 victory over the major league-worst Colorado Rockies on Saturday.
Priester (6-2) allowed a one-out single to Michael Toglia in the fifth and walked a pair while throwing 95 pitches in the longest and best start of his three major league seasons.
Aaron Ashby and DL Hall completed the one-hitter.
Brice Turang had three hits, including a run-scoring infield single in the first and an RBI double in the fifth. Ortiz hit a two-run homer in the fourth.
Antonio Senzatela (3-11) allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings.

Facing the top of Colorado's lineup for the third time, Priester had an 0-2 count on Tyler Freeman to start the sixth before throwing four straight balls. He followed that by getting Jordan Beck to ground out, then struck out the next two batters on seven pitches.

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Marco Reus scored in the 70th minute and the LA Galaxy played the San Jose Earthquakes to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in the 104th edition of the California Clásico. LA (1-14-5) is unbeaten in its last eight road matches (Stanford Stadium & PayPal Park) across all competitions against San Jose (7-8-5) dating to June 26, 2021. San Jose native Beau Leroux opened the scoring in the 16th minute with a shot into the upper-right corner for his fourth of the season. He settled Mark-Anthony Kaye's cross with his left foot and curled in a shot with his right from the top of the 18-yard box. San Jose goalkeeper Daniel stopped an initial attempt in the 70th, but it bounced right back to Reus for an easy touch home. It was Reus' first game wearing the captain's armband. China's humanoid robots generate more soccer excitement than their human counterparts
BEIJING (AP) — While China's men's soccer team hasn't generated much excitement in recent years, humanoid robot teams have won over fans in Beijing based more on the AI technology involved than any athletic prowess shown. Four teams of humanoid robots faced off in fully autonomous 3-on-3 soccer matches powered entirely by artificial intelligence on Saturday night in China's capital in what was touted as a first in China and a preview for the upcoming World Humanoid Robot Games, set to take place in Beijing. According to the organizers, a key aspect of the match was that all the participating robots operated fully autonomously using AI-driven strategies without any human intervention or supervision. Equipped with advanced visual sensors, the robots were able to identify the ball and navigate the field with agility They were also designed to stand up on their own after falling. However, during the match several still had to be carried off the field on stretchers by staff, adding to the realism of the experience. China is stepping up efforts to develop AI-powered humanoid robots, using sports competitions like marathons, boxing, and football as a real-world proving ground. Cheng Hao, founder and CEO of Booster Robotics, the company that supplied the robot players, said sports competitions offer the ideal testing ground for humanoid robots, helping to accelerate the development of both algorithms and integrated hardware-software systems. He also emphasized safety as a core concern in the application of humanoid robots. 'In the future, we may arrange for robots to play football with humans. That means we must ensure the robots are completely safe,' Cheng said. 'For example, a robot and a human could play a match where winning doesn't matter, but real offensive and defensive interactions take place. In the final match, Tsinghua University's THU Robotics defeated the China Agricultural University's Mountain Sea team with a score of 5–3 to win the championship. Mr. Wu, a supporter of Tsinghua, celebrated their victory while also praising the competition. 'They (THU) did really well,' he said. 'But the Mountain Sea team (of Agricultural University) was also impressive. They brought a lot of surprises.' China's men have made only one World Cup appearance and have already been knocked out of next years' competition in Canada, Mexico and the United States.
