Dibrugarh: The riverine district of Majuli achieved a historic milestone on Friday as it flagged off its first-ever export shipment of red rice, locally known as 'bao dhan', to international markets in Dubai and Russia.
The 267-metric tonne consignment represents a significant breakthrough for Assam's indigenous agricultural sector and sustainable farming practices.
The ceremonial flag-off was conducted by Majuli MLA Bhuban Gam in the presence of DC Ratul Chandra Pathak, SSP Bibekananda Das, and senior officials from the agriculture department. The premium rice variety will be exported by IVC Agrovet Pvt Ltd, marking the beginning of what officials hope will be a regular export trade for the region.
"The export of organically produced red rice from Majuli to Central Asia and Europe is a historic occasion. This initiative not only boosts the livelihoods of local farmers but also positions Assam's indigenous crops in the international market," said MLA Bhuban Gam during the flag-off ceremony.
Red rice, a premium indigenous variety from Assam, has gained recognition for its distinctive rich aroma, exceptional nutritional value, and organic cultivation methods.

"The export of 267 metric tons of bao rice — a traditional aromatic variety cultivated through completely organic processes — highlights Majuli's potential in sustainable farming and global trade. Majuli's farmers have preserved traditional organic methods for centuries. Now, the world is recognising the value of their produce. This export is just the beginning — we aim to expand to more countries in the coming days," DC Ratul Chandra Pathak said.

Among the top institutions accepting CUET UG 2025 scores are the University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Aligarh Muslim University. The exam covered 37 subjects, including 13 languages, 23 domain-specific subjects, and one general aptitude test. This marked a significant change from the previous year when students had more flexibility in selecting papers. In CUET UG 2025, candidates were limited to choosing a maximum of five papers, regardless of their Class 12 subject combinations. Exam format revised and cities reduced This year also saw changes in the examination pattern and logistics. All papers were conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode, with 50 mandatory questions in each paper. The number of exam centres was also reduced from 354 cities last year to 285 cities across India. These adjustments aimed to improve operational efficiency and reduce logistical challenges faced during the examination. Delayed subject papers included in results The final CUET UG 2025 results will include the accountancy/book keeping paper and the Tamil and Urdu language papers, which were initially postponed and later rescheduled by NTA. This ensures that no student is left behind due to administrative delays and that all subject scores are considered in the final rankings. Limited use of CUET scores in certain institutions While CUET UG is being adopted widely, a few institutions continue to use alternative admission methods. For instance, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) only accepts CUET scores for select undergraduate courses. Programmes such as B.A. (Hons.) Political Science, BBA, and BSc Mathematics at JMI still rely on other entrance examinations or Class 12 results for admission. Madhya Pradesh rolls out INR 239 crore laptop aid for over 94,000 high-scoring Class 12 students
BHOPAL: In a major push to promote digital learning and reward academic excellence, the Madhya Pradesh government will distribute laptops to 94,234 meritorious students under the "Pratibhashali Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojana" on Friday, July 4. The initiative, aimed at empowering students who have scored 75 per cent or more in the Class 12 board examinations conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Board of Secondary Education (MPBSE), involves a financial outlay of Rs 238.98 crore. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav will preside over the state-level distribution ceremony in Bhopal. He wrote on his X handle: "I'm delighted that on 4th July, we will extend financial incentives of Rs 25,000 each to 94,234 students who have scored 75 percent or above in the Class 12 MP Board examinations." He further said "this reflects our commitment to nurturing a generation of empowered youth who will contribute to realizing the vision of a developed India under the leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi". Under the scheme, each eligible student will receive Rs 25,000 directly to their bank account to purchase a laptop of their choice. Last year alone, 89,710 students received financial assistance under the scheme. The 2025 edition marks a significant scale-up, both in terms of beneficiaries and budget. According to official sources, the scheme covers both regular and self-taught students from government and recognised non-government schools. The eligibility threshold for general category students is 75 per cent, while students from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes qualify with 65 per cent marks. The initiative aligns with the state's vision of building a digitally empowered generation and complements national efforts under the Digital India campaign .
