Dibrugarh: The riverine district of Majuli achieved a historic milestone on Friday as it flagged off its first-ever export shipment of red rice, locally known as 'bao dhan', to international markets in Dubai and Russia.
The 267-metric tonne consignment represents a significant breakthrough for Assam's indigenous agricultural sector and sustainable farming practices.
The ceremonial flag-off was conducted by Majuli MLA Bhuban Gam in the presence of DC Ratul Chandra Pathak, SSP Bibekananda Das, and senior officials from the agriculture department. The premium rice variety will be exported by IVC Agrovet Pvt Ltd, marking the beginning of what officials hope will be a regular export trade for the region.
"The export of organically produced red rice from Majuli to Central Asia and Europe is a historic occasion. This initiative not only boosts the livelihoods of local farmers but also positions Assam's indigenous crops in the international market," said MLA Bhuban Gam during the flag-off ceremony.
Red rice, a premium indigenous variety from Assam, has gained recognition for its distinctive rich aroma, exceptional nutritional value, and organic cultivation methods.

The grain stands out in the global market due to its unique characteristics and health benefits, making it an attractive export commodity.
The nutritional profile of red rice makes it particularly appealing to health-conscious consumers worldwide. The variety serves as an excellent source of iron, protein, vitamins, and fibre. What sets it apart is its rich concentration of antioxidants, particularly anthocyanins, which give the rice its distinctive red colour and contribute to its health benefits.
Medical experts have highlighted various health advantages associated with red rice consumption, including improved digestion, anaemia management, and potential benefits for asthma treatment, bone health, weight management, and cardiovascular wellness.
These health benefits align with growing global trends toward nutritious and functional foods.
This export milestone comes at a time when global demand for organic and indigenous food varieties is steadily increasing.
The versatility of red rice adds to its market appeal, as it can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes. The grain has been a staple in Assamese cuisine for generations and is traditionally enjoyed as part of authentic regional meals, giving it a cultural significance alongside its nutritional value.
"The export of 267 metric tons of bao rice — a traditional aromatic variety cultivated through completely organic processes — highlights Majuli's potential in sustainable farming and global trade. Majuli's farmers have preserved traditional organic methods for centuries. Now, the world is recognising the value of their produce. This export is just the beginning — we aim to expand to more countries in the coming days," DC Ratul Chandra Pathak said.

CUET UG 2025 results to be announced today on cuet.nta.nic.in for over 13 lakh students

CUET UG 2025 scores to guide admissions in 243 universities including DU and JNU CUET UG 2025 results: The results of the Common University Entrance Test for undergraduate admissions (CUET UG) 2025 are expected to be released today on the official website – More than 13 lakh students across India are awaiting their results, which will determine their eligibility for admission to numerous undergraduate courses in over 240 universities. The CUET UG 2025 is a centralised entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) to streamline undergraduate admissions across various institutions. This year, 243 universities—including central, state, private, deemed, and other government institutions—will use CUET scores for counselling and admissions. Among the top institutions accepting CUET UG 2025 scores are the University of Delhi, Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Aligarh Muslim University. CUET UG 2025 to follow normalisation for fairness Due to the large number of applicants, the CUET UG 2025 was held in multiple shifts using different sets of question papers. To ensure fairness, NTA will apply a normalisation method based on percentiles. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Each candidate's performance will be assessed in relation to their peers from the same shift, and all results will be compiled into a common percentile-based ranking. The exam covered 37 subjects, including 13 languages, 23 domain-specific subjects, and one general aptitude test. This marked a significant change from the previous year when students had more flexibility in selecting papers. In CUET UG 2025, candidates were limited to choosing a maximum of five papers, regardless of their Class 12 subject combinations. Exam format revised and cities reduced This year also saw changes in the examination pattern and logistics. All papers were conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode, with 50 mandatory questions in each paper. The number of exam centres was also reduced from 354 cities last year to 285 cities across India. These adjustments aimed to improve operational efficiency and reduce logistical challenges faced during the examination. Delayed subject papers included in results The final CUET UG 2025 results will include the accountancy/book keeping paper and the Tamil and Urdu language papers, which were initially postponed and later rescheduled by NTA. This ensures that no student is left behind due to administrative delays and that all subject scores are considered in the final rankings. Limited use of CUET scores in certain institutions While CUET UG is being adopted widely, a few institutions continue to use alternative admission methods. For instance, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) only accepts CUET scores for select undergraduate courses. Programmes such as B.A. (Hons.) Political Science, BBA, and BSc Mathematics at JMI still rely on other entrance examinations or Class 12 results for admission. Startups to giants: India rides the AI wave to sustainability

India is fast becoming a global vanguard in marrying artificial intelligence (AI) with sustainable development. As the world faces mounting climate challenges, the country's businesses, ranging from IT behemoths to climate-tech start-ups, are weaving AI into the fabric of their green goals, making India one of the most AI-active nations in sustainability initiatives. A striking 64% of Indian companies are now actively deploying AI to boost the impact of their sustainability efforts — the highest proportion among surveyed countries, according to IBM's 2024 sustainability readiness study. This isn't just a sign of technological enthusiasm, but of a maturing mindset that places environmental responsibility at the heart of corporate strategy. India's journey is as much about economic transformation as it is about ecological conscience. In 2022–23, the digital economy accounted for nearly 12% of the national income, underlining the country's success in harnessing tech for green growth. Take Infosys, for instance. The IT giant achieved carbon neutrality in 2020 — well ahead of global targets — by using AI and digital tools to drive energy efficiency, adopt renewables, and run offset projects that also benefit rural communities. The company was also the first Indian firm to join the RE100 initiative, committing to 100% renewable electricity. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo But it's not just industry titans making waves. India's climate-tech ecosystem now boasts over 800 operational start-ups, which have collectively raised more than $3.6 billion between 2014 and 2024. Among them is Alt Carbon, a venture leading the charge in carbon removal technologies. The company combines geochemical innovation, environmental data platforms, and scientific validation to sequester CO 2 through enhanced rock weathering and soil improvement on farmland. With its cutting-edge platform 'Atlas', Alt Carbon can monitor soil chemistry, water dynamics, and ecosystem health at high resolution, and aims to remove 5 million metric tons of CO 2 by 2030. AI and other emerging technologies like IoT (internet of things), 5G, and blockchain are transforming how Indian enterprises think about sustainability. From resource-efficient smart grids to traceable, ethical supply chains and real-time emissions monitoring, digital tools are offering tangible solutions to previously intractable problems. This momentum is also evident in platforms such as EY's ESG Compass, which supports businesses in navigating ESG (Environmental, Social & Governance) goals through data automation, risk analytics, and benchmarking tools. Such solutions are helping organisations make more informed, sustainable decisions while increasing transparency for stakeholders. Yet, as PM Narendra Modi recently reminded the world at the AI Action Summit 2025, sustainable AI must not merely be powered by clean energy, but also be efficient by design—light on data, lean on compute power, and accessible to the broader developer community. 'After all,' he said, 'the human brain can compose poetry and design spaceships while using less power than most light bulbs.' Indeed, while AI tools are proving their worth, there are pressing concerns that must be addressed — particularly around data privacy, interoperability, and ethical design. Most current sustainability-driven AI tools focus on energy emissions during training, often ignoring emissions during the deployment and inference phases. Moreover, many are tailored for highly skilled developers, limiting access for users relying on APIs or nocode platforms. As The Times of India Social Impact Summit approaches, the conversation is expected to pivot around these very themes: how to scale tech-enabled ESG and CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) efforts, ensure inclusive adoption, and drive measurable impact. With diverse stakeholders converging, the summit presented by Malabar Gold & Diamonds — Ernst & Young is knowledge partner — aims to serve as a crucible for collaboration and future-ready sustainability solutions. It is being held on July 11 and 12, 2025, in Mumbai.
