1,015 honoured in Sabah awards
Four are given the highest state award while 78 receive the second highest state award.
Leading the list was Policy Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister member Dato Ahmad Fuad Md Ali, who was conferred the 'Seri Panglima Darjah Kinabalu' (SPDK), which carries the 'Datuk Seri Panglima' title.
Three other people who received the SPDK award were State Rural Development Minister Datuk Jahid Jahim, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and businessman Datuk Lim Yu Ming.
Meanwhile, 78 people have been given the 'Panglima Gemilang Darjah Kinabalu' (PGDK) award, which carries the 'Datuk' title, including Deputy Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Khairul Firdaus Akbar Khan and Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh, Kapayan assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang and Pantai Manis assemblyman Mohd Tamin Zainal.
In addition, the PGDK award was conferred to Senator Anna Bell Perian, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) vice president Chong Pit Fah, National Trust Party (Amanah) Sabah chairman Lahirul Latigu and Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) youth chief Christopher Mandut.
Also receiving the PGDK were Sabah Electricity chief executive officer IR Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, State Health director Dr Maria Suleiman, Sabah Parks director Maklarin Lakim, Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Joehari Ayub Aman and High Court judge Alexander Siew How Wai.
For the third highest award, the 'Ahli Setia Darjah Kinabalu', a hundred people were listed, including former state Unduk Ngadau winners Daphne Iking and Dolly Jimayol, Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Petagas chief Mohd Isquzawan Israq Arsit and Sabah Masters Athletic Association (Samas) president Ramjit Nairulal.
There are 181 recipients of the 'Ahli Darjah Kinabalu' award, while 248 have been given the 'Bintang Setia Kinabalu' award, including state footballer Ronny Harun.
A total of 109 people will be receiving the Commendable Service Award.
As for the Justice of People (JP) title, ten people were conferred, including Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Sabah chief Datuk Karunanithy Y Subbiah, SMJ Energy Sdn Bhd board non-executive director Datuk Mohd Sofian Alfian Nair and Society of Hope Sabah president Josephine Hadikusumo.

KOTA KINABALU (July 31): A touching tribute to the country's fallen heroes in the 2013 Tanduo incursion marked the State-level 2025 Warriors Day celebration at the State Police Headquarters in Kepayan on Thursday. The celebration was graced by Head of State Tun Musa Aman accompanied by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor. The ceremony began with the inspection of guard-of-honour by Tun Musa followed by the hoisting of the national and state flags, the Last Post and observation of a 30-second prayer for the fallen warriors. Tun Musa and the Chief Minister accompanied by Sabah Commissioner of Police Datuk Jauteh Dikun later visited the Sabah Police Museum and armed forces exhibition booths. Warriors Day is observed annually on July 31 to honour the service and sacrifices of Malaysia's security forces in safeguarding national peace and sovereignty.

Ex-senior judge to head Sabah law reform council

(Sabah Government pic) PETALING JAYA : Former chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak David Wong has been appointed as the chairman of an advisory council tasked with looking into legal reforms in Sabah. Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor said the Sabah law reform advisory council was established to strengthen governance and uphold the rule of law in Sabah, while modernising the state's legal framework. Hajiji said the council would review existing state laws while recommending reforms, to better serve the needs of Sabahans. 'The state government looks forward to the valuable insights and recommendations from the council, which are expected to form the foundation for meaningful and enduring legal reform in Sabah,' he said in a statement. The other members of the council are former Sabah Law Society president Roger Chin and senior lawyers Daniel Tan, David Fung, John Sikayun, and Shakinur Ain Karama. Hajiji said the council was independent and non-partisan, and would ensure that proposed reforms are rooted in Sabah's socio-cultural realities, values, and customs.

Sabah police probe possible bullying in Zara Qairina's death, deny VIP cover-up claims
KOTA KINABALU, July 31 — Police are investigating whether bullying was a factor in the death of 13-year-old student Zara Qairina Mahathir at a religious school in Papar earlier this month, as part of the larger probe. Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said today that the investigation is in its final stages, with statements recorded from over 60 individuals, including students, parents, and school staff. 'The investigation is now focusing on two elements: the cause of death and the surrounding environment. 'We do not rule out the possibility of bullying allegations, based on what has been uncovered so far,' Jauteh told reporters after attending the state-level Warriors' Day celebration at the Sabah Police Headquarters here. He confirmed that three students — nicknamed 'Kak Wana,' 'Kak Dedeng,' and 'Tomboi' — who were mentioned on social media in connection with the teenager's death, have also been investigated. Jauteh denied accusations circulating online that the case may involve the child of a prominent figure, including himself, leading to a cover-up. He described such claims as irresponsible. 'There have been allegations that children of VIPs, including my own, attend the school. I want to state clearly that none of my children have ever studied there,' he said. 'As for whether any elected representatives' children are enrolled, I cannot confirm... However, I must stress again: I have no children who have ever, or are currently, studying there.' He added that malicious individuals were creating unhealthy narratives around a case that must be treated with sensitivity, as it involves minors. Addressing public demands for a thorough and transparent investigation, Jauteh explained the complexity of the process. 'We had to interview 60 witnesses, and these statements couldn't be gathered all at once... If we conducted this probe in an unprofessional way, it would only worsen their trauma. The investigation team was supported by professional counsellors so the students could express what really happened,' he said. He said the investigation papers have been sent to Bukit Aman for final review before being referred to the Attorney General's Chambers. Zara, a Form One student, was found unconscious on the ground floor of her school dormitory at SMKA Tun Datu Mustapha in Papar during the early hours of July 16, believed to have fallen from the third floor. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The case has attracted national attention, fuelled by unverified allegations from family members claiming she was a victim of constant bullying and sexual assault. This has led to public claims that the investigation was being handled poorly and without transparency. In response, Sabah Law Society president Datuk Nazim Maduarin has called for a thorough, transparent, and independent investigation. 'The case has raised disturbing questions surrounding school safety, student welfare, and institutional response,' he said. 'Our stand is clear: This case must not be swept under the rug and must not be forgotten.'
