Maximized bids to maintain unbeaten record in G2 July Stakes at Newmarket
Having made a successful introduction at Haydock Park, Maximized defeated subsequent Royal Ascot victor Havana Hurricane by a length and a half in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom Downs' Derby Festival.
Trainer Charlie Appleby said: 'Maximized is two from two, stepping up from his novice to win nicely at Epsom. We gave him a break afterwards, as the plan was always to miss Royal Ascot, and he goes into this in great shape. He is on an upward curve and hopefully the one they all have to beat.'
El Cordobes and Arabian Crown, both impressive winners on Newmarket's Rowley Mile course, step up in class for the G2 Princess Of Wales's Stakes.
Following two runner-up finishes at Meydan, El Cordobes stormed to victory in a 12-furlong handicap at Newmarket's Guineas Festival, with runner-up French Master franking the form at Royal Ascot.
El Cordobes made the switch to Stakes company soon after his Newmarket triumph, finishing third in both the G3 Aston Park Stakes at Newbury and York's Listed Grand Cup.
Arabian Crown looked a leading Classic contender following dominant G3 victories in the Ghaiyyath Zetland Stakes at Newmarket in 2023 and last year's Classic Trial at Sandown Park.
Having missed the rest of 2024 through injury, the son of Dubawi has made two appearances so far this year, finishing fourth in Meydan's G2 Dubai City Of Gold and sixth in the G3 Gordon Richards Stakes at Sandown Park.
Charlie Appleby said: 'El Cordobes is coming back in distance from York, where we feel he did not stay the 14 furlongs. He has a bit to find on the book but, back at this trip, he should be competitive, and the quick ground will be no problem.
'Arabian Crown has been gelded since his last start and stepping back up to a mile and a half will suit. If he can recapture some of his earlier form, he is sure to be a player.'
Opera Ballo concedes weight all round as he heads three Godolphin contenders in the Listed Sir Henry Cecil Stakes.
Following a disappointing sixth in the G3 Craven Stakes, the son of Ghaiyyath bounced back in a first-time hood with an authoritative victory in the Listed Heron Stakes at Sandown Park.
Charlie Appleby also saddles Newmarket handicap third Spectacular View, while Saeed bin Suroor is represented by Arabian Story, who was a game winner of the Britannia Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Charlie Appleby said: 'We were delighted to get Opera Ballo back on track in the Heron Stakes. He has a penalty to carry, but he has done very well since Sandown and we are hoping to use this as a building block towards a nice campaign in the second half of the season. It suits Spectacular View to be ridden prominently and he won't mind the ground or trip.'
Saeed Bin Suroor said: 'Arabian Story came out of Ascot in good form and has been training well. This is another step up in class and I am looking forward to seeing how he gets on.'
Meanwhile, Versatile four-year-old Think Big added another string to his bow with a swooping victory in the G3 Kelso Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday.
Having seen his perfect streak on turf ended with a slow start in last month's G1 Jaipur Stakes, the Twirling Candy homebred excelled with the step up to a mile as he displayed his customary turn of foot to readily beat Intellect by a length.
The Kelso Stakes is a traditional prep for the G1 Fourstardave Handicap over the same course and distance in early August, and victory there would earn Think Big a spot in the G1 Breeders' Cup Mile.
Saturday's card at Saratoga also saw three-year-old filly Ragtime maintain her unbeaten record with a routine success in an allowance race. A debut winner at the same course last month, the daughter of Union Rags looks ready to test her credentials in Graded company.

Maximized looking to make most of G2 Richmond Stakes opportunity
Maximized hopes for an improved performance in G2 company when he tackles the Richmond Stakes at Goodwood in UK on Thursday. The Charlie Appleby-trained colt met with a first career defeat in the G2 July Stakes at Newmarket earlier this month, when he faded to fifth after appearing to hold a leading chance approaching the final furlong. Maximized readily beat recent Listed Pat Eddery Stakes winner Time To Turn on his debut at Haydock Park and comfortably accounted for Havana Hurricane, who went on to win the Listed Windsor Castle Stakes, in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom Downs. Charlie Appleby said: 'Maximized had proved very consistent up until his disappointing run in the July Stakes. We have no real excuse for that effort, although the ground may have been quick enough. He came out of the race fine and we are applying cheek-pieces this time. Hopefully, he can rekindle his early season form, which will make him competitive.' Morris Dancer touched off in G2 Vintage Stakes Unexposed two-year-old Morris Dancer took a significant step forward as he went down by a short-head to Zavateri in the G2 Vintage Stakes, despite showing signs of inexperience in the seven-furlong contest at Goodwood, UK, on Tuesday, 29 July. The Palace Pier colt, making his Pattern debut for John & Thady Gosden on the back of a Haydock Park maiden success, raced in a clear last of the 10 runners for the majority of the race. Asked to quicken by William Buick two furlongs out, Morris Dancer started to make good headway soon after but had to switch out after nearly running into the back of Do Or Do Not. The Godolphin runner, who continued to look ill at ease on the camber, flew home inside the final furlong and strongly pressed Zavateri in the final strides, with the G2 July Stakes winner finding more in the shadow of the post. John Gosden said: 'We are thrilled with Morris Dancer, who has run a great race. He won at Haydock and then just had a little niggle and cough. So we backed off and he came here off the minimum work. William said don't be frightened to step up to a mile with him and we will do that somewhere.'' William Buick added: 'There wasn't much between Morris Dancer and Zavateri in the end. He ran super. It seemed like the winner found a bit more when I got to him but Morris Dancer has stepped up on his previous run, so we are very happy.'' Recently, Tornado Alert produced a superb display as he decisively beat older opposition in the G1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis at Munich. The Too Darn Hot colt had already put up three strong efforts in the UK this season, including finishing fourth behind Ruling Court in the G1 2,000 Guineas, but was encountering soft ground for the first time in his career. Oisin Murphy positioned Tornado Alert prominently throughout the 10-furlong contest and raced in third initially before moving up to a two-length second behind Atoso heading into the first turn. Petit Marin took second from the Saeed bin Suroor-trained runner seven furlongs from home, with many horses appearing poised to challenge as the field bunched turning in. Atoso and Petit Marin kept to the inside rail but started to fade at the top of the straight as Tornado Alert led the rest of the runners towards the centre of the course. Having taken up the lead over two furlongs from home, Tornado Alert found plenty in front, seeing off Persica and then Map Of Stars before powering away to hit the line two and a half lengths clear. Saeed Bin Suroor said: 'Tornado Alert won well and I am really pleased for him. He has run well every time this season, and his second at Royal Ascot last time was a good piece of form. I was a little worried about the ground when the rain came, but he had no problem with conditions today. 'We will take him home to Newmarket and see how he comes out of this over the next few days before deciding where to go next. A mile and a quarter is his best trip, so we will look for more races over this distance.'

Godolphin's globetrotting legend Rebel's Romance chases historic King George crown
The eyes of the global racing world will turn to Ascot on Saturday, July 26, as Rebel's Romance, the most prolific horse in Godolphin's storied history, lines up in the Group 1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes, seeking a historic first British top-level victory to add to his glittering international résumé. The £1.5 million midsummer highlight at Ascot is not just the richest all-aged flat race in Britain; it is a battleground of champions, a race where legacies are written, and reputations either crowned or crushed. For Dubai-owned Rebel's Romance, trained by Charlie Appleby, the 2025 edition offers another chance to cement his name in the British record books. With 18 career wins, including 14 in Group company and a remarkable seven at the top level, Rebel's Romance has already secured his place in history as Godolphin's winningest horse of all time since the stable was created in 1993. His Group 1 triumphs stretch from North America to Germany, from Hong Kong to Dubai, where he stormed to victory in the 2023 Dubai Sheema Classic. And yet, one prize continues to elude him: a Group 1 victory on British soil. That could change on Saturday. Appleby Upbeat 'Rebel's Romance goes into this in great order,' said Appleby. 'There was plenty of strength in depth in this contest 12 months ago, when he ran a good race, and it looks a similarly strong renewal this time around. 'He is taking on younger opposition again, but, wherever he finishes, the others will know that they have had a race.' Indeed, Rebel's Romance ran an admirable third in last year's King George and returns to Ascot in flying form. Three wins from four starts this season include a commanding performance in the Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes over the same course and distance at Royal Ascot in June, a clear signal of his readiness. This is a race that holds special resonance for Dubai racing fans. The King George has previously been won by legendary Godolphin runners like Swain (1997 & 1998), Daylami (1999), Doyen (2004), and Adayar (2021), while other Dubai-owned stars such as Postponed and Poet's Word have added their names to the honour roll. It all began in 1988 with Mtoto, the first Dubai-connected horse to capture the race. Rebel's Romance now carries the royal blue silks into that elite company. But the road to glory won't be easy. Rival Loom Among his key rivals is heavily fancied Calandagan, representing France, who returns to Ascot off a Group 1 breakthrough in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud. Trained by Francis-Henri Graffard, the colt seeks to emulate stablemate Goliath, who won this race last year. Ireland's challenge is led by Jan Brueghel, the 2024 Coronation Cup winner and reigning St Leger champion. Only one horse, Conduit in 2009, has pulled off the rare St Leger–King George double in recent years. Trainer Aidan O'Brien strengthens his hand with Continuous, Lambourn, and Whirl - each a Group winner, each a potential spoiler. British hopes rest partly on Kalpana, the Juddmonte filly who impressed in last year's Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes, while rounding out the field is Green Impact, a lightly raced contender from Jessica Harrington's yard in Ireland. Saturday's King George is more than just a big-money clash. It's a mid-season summit of elite middle-distance talent colliding for supremacy. For Rebel's Romance, a Group 1 crown in Britain would not only be the ultimate homecoming triumph but a fitting jewel in an already glittering crown.
