Even a superstar like Salman Khan couldn't save Sikandar from mixed reviews. Yet, fans still filled seats, proving that name value and charisma still drive success, just like Prabhas, who didn't rely on hits alone but carved his path with sheer pan-India appeal. How did Prabhas surpass even the biggest names?
Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan and Jawan both crossed Rs 1,000 crore globally—but they remained primarily Hindi films with dubbed versions, not full pan-India productions. Similarly, Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2 entered the club but stood alone among his works, and Vicky Kaushal fell short despite his star presence. Prabhas, however, achieved it not once, but twice—with films shot, dubbed, and marketed across multiple languages—earning him the title of true pan-India superstar. What made his first Rs 1,000 crore blockbuster, Baahubali 2, legendary?
In 2017, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion shattered records, earning Rs 1,788 Cr globally and Rs 1,030 Cr domestically. Prabhas' portrayal of father-son royalty, combined with epic visuals and timeless drama, elevated regional cinema's reach into a nationwide phenomenon. Then Kalki 2898 AD arrived
Directed by Nag Ashwin, Kalki 2898 AD brought a futuristic vision rooted in the Mahabharata mythos. Co-starring Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan, it crossed the Rs 1,000 Cr worldwide mark again, grossing Rs 1,042 Cr globally and Rs 646 Cr in India. A year on, a sequel is already green-lit, confirming Prabhas' cinematic universe ambitions. What's next?
The actor is now all set for his upcoming projects, The Raaja Saab – a triple-role, romantic-horror-comedy by Maruthi with co-stars Nidhhi Agerwal, Malavika Mohanan & Sanjay Dutt.
Fauji – directed by Hanu Raghavapudi, promising gritty intensity.
Spirit – a Sandeep Reddy Vanga mytho-horror that saw Triptii Dimri replace Deepika.
Brahmarakshas – with Prasanth Varma, building more high-concept mysticism. Is Prabhas India's first true pan‑India star?
By delivering two Rs 1,000 crore multilingual films, Prabhas hasn't just stood among the greats—he redefines what it means to be a pan‑India star. His journey continues, building universes of myth, magic, and mega-returns.

Indiafication of fashion: How global luxury is basically shopping in Sarojini now

Digital journalist, news junkie, and self-proclaimed gossip connoisseur. If it's trending, she's talking about it. From national to international affairs, she's got an eye for the big stories — when she's not busy, she's turning her canvas into a masterpiece. A journalist with a centrist approach and a love for the messy, thrilling world of news. LESS ... MORE Forget yoga on the Ganga, yaar. India isn't just trending, we're low-key taking over the global fashion scene. One Kolhapuri at a time. Let's get this straight. Indians have never been behind in fashion. We created drapes before the West learned about belts. And now, fashion finally catches up, by taking our style and selling it back to us for the price of a small 2BHK in Mumbai (on rent). Take Prada, for example. Their latest 'innovative' sandal bears a suspicious resemblance to what your chacha wears to the market. You know, good old Kolhapuri chappal. Now just with a posh label and a four-figure price tag in Euros. Shabash, Prada. Heritage hai, but haute-ify it. When Milan went full Maharashtra: Prada's Kolhapuri knockoff At Prada's Spring/Summer 2026 men's show in Milan, the models walked the ramp in sandals that made every Indian blink twice. 'Is that? Is that a Kolhapuri chappal?' Yes, beta. But now it's 'Artisanal leather sandal with toe loop.' Fancy. Even the invitation card for the show had a leather toe ring. Somewhere in Kolhapur, a mochi likely got a hiccup and did not know why. People on X in India, of course, lost it. 'You're welcome, Prada. Next time, give us a shoutout.' Because while the sandals walked the global ramp, the credit quietly walked out the back door. Kolhapuri 101: For those who missed the memo In case you've been living under a Swiss rock, the Kolhapuri chappal is not just footwear, it's a way of life. Handcrafted in Maharashtra for over a century, these leather beauties are tough, timeless, and totally wedding-approved. They've even got a GI tag, okay? That's like a VIP pass in the world of craftsmanship. So no, it's not 'rustic minimalism.' It's pure desi swag. Louis Vuitton tries an Indian wedding starter pack Not wanting to be left behind in this cosplay of culture, Louis Vuitton released a fresh range of trunks that yell 'mere cousin ki shaadi is in Noida.' Monogrammed, yes. Luxury, perhaps. Original, definitely not. All Indians will agree that these 'private travel trunks' resemble the very ones Sharma aunty has piled up in her storeroom from her daughter's wedding in 2004. Only LV omitted the nariyal and haldi stains. Puebco's Jhola drama: Now on sale at Nordstrom for Rs 4,200 Ah yes, the humble jhola. That cotton bag you receive free with Basmati rice. Or to carry sabzi in. Or books. Or dreams. Now enter Puebco's rendition. The 'Indian Souvenir Bag.' It's listed on Nordstrom's site for $48. Our verdict? Somewhere in India, an uncle in a banyan is laughing and muttering, 'Arre, mere wale mein jaida jagah hai.' Flashback: Do you remember the polybag purse? Balenciaga once attempted to sell what appeared to be a plastic thela for $2,000. Dior embarked on an embroidery shopping spree in Jaipur. H&M collaborated with Sabyasachi and retailed you what you could purchase from FabIndia, only ten times more expensive and with a waiting list. Moral of the story? Indian design is the moment. But Indian designers are nowhere to be found in the credits. So… appreciation or just appropri-yawn? We get it. Indian motifs are pretty. Embroidery is detailed. Chappals are comfy. But if you're lifting our designs, at least name-drop us, no? It's one thing to be inspired. It's another to repackage a Kolhapuri chappal as 'Rustic Milanese Footwear.' Baba, it's Kolhapuri. Say it. Spell it. Credit it. India's fashion revenge tour has begun From jholas to juttis, desi fashion is dominating international runways, and it's high time we took our place. If a chappal can strut the ramp in Milan, we can enter the dialogue and ask for our due. The next time you spot a $5,000 lehenga on a Paris catwalk, simply say, 'Sab kuch copy hai.' And smile. Because the world may be late to the party, but we threw it. Facebook Twitter Linkedin Email Disclaimer Views expressed above are the author's own.

Digital now accounts for over 55 per cent of advertisement expenditure: I&B Secretary Jaju

HighlightsDigital media now accounts for over 55 percent of the national advertising expenditure in India, according to Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju. India's digital advertising market is projected to exceed Rs 70,000 crore by 2026, driven by the increasing number of smartphone users and affordable data rates. Sanjay Jaju emphasized the importance of leveraging artificial intelligence and immersive technologies to enhance India's storytelling capabilities in the evolving media and entertainment landscape. Digital now dominates the media and entertainment sector accounting for over 55 per cent of the national advertising expenditure, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju said here on Friday. He said that over 55 crore smartphone users were a key factor in the shifting dynamics in consumption in the media and entertainment sector. "The digital segment is now definitely more than the non-digital segment," said Jaju addressing Storyboard18's Digital Entertainment Summit (DES) 2025. He said the industry must now enable the segment "to grow at a much brisker pace". While India has long been a creative powerhouse, Jaju stressed the digital medium has become central to its global aspirations. "Digital entertainment, being the core theme... has a huge share in the overall media and entertainment landscape," he said, noting the growing importance of streaming platforms , gaming companies, animation and post-production studios, and the creator economy. Jaju said the Indian media and entertainment industry has been undergoing rapid digitization, fueled by affordable data rates, deep smartphone penetration and growing internet access. According to various industry estimates, India's digital advertising market is poised to surpass Rs 70,000 crore by 2026. He said events such as the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit, organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, aim to position India as a global content and technology hub. Such events seek to unite stakeholders across tech, film, gaming, streaming and social media to co-create and export India's soft power to the world, he said. "Artificial intelligence (AI) and generative AI has been transforming every aspect of our life... from editing to dubbing to music production to animation. The media and entertainment landscape is also bound to get affected," Jaju said. He emphasized on the need to leverage immersive technologies to amplify India's storytelling capabilities. "We need to be also embracing large number of technological trends which are happening, these trends are going to shape the digital entertainment landscape as well," Jaju said. PTI
