Uttarakhand tops NITI Aayog's Sustainable Development Goals index 2023-24: CM Dhami
Addressing a public gathering in Haridwar, CM Dhami said, 'I am pleased to inform you that, in the 2023-24 index of the Government of India's NITI Aayog, Uttarakhand has ranked first in the entire country in achieving the goals of sustainable development.'
Highlighting the state's progress, Dhami credited the achievement to Uttarakhand's balanced growth approach; he said, 'It's because both the speed and direction of our growth are moving forward in a balanced manner. Along with this, we have also surpassed the national average by reducing the unemployment rate by 4.4%...'
During the 'Vikas Sankalp Parv' event held in Haridwar, the CM inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 107 projects, which are expected to cost around Rs 550 crore, a release said.
CM also visited the stalls set up by various departments on this occasion and was overwhelmed by the immense love and affection received from people in the programme.
Chief Minister further said, 'Under the able leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttarakhand is moving on the path of progress with clear policy, determination and public welfare decisions. Development is our priority, honesty is our identity, and public service is our resolve.'
'With this aim, we are continuously working to establish Uttarakhand in the category of leading states of the country. The schemes which have been inaugurated and laid the foundation stone in Haridwar will definitely prove to be a milestone in the direction of regional development,' CM added.
Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also held a telephone conversation with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, discussing the heavy rainfall in disaster-prone areas of the state.
Dhami informed that, considering the seriousness of the issue, Amit Shah has assured that the Centre's emergency relief agencies, the NDRF and ITBP, are being deployed promptly to ensure that the Char Dham Yatra is not disrupted and that devotees face no inconvenience during their travel. (ANI)

"The Sardar Patel Cooperative Dairy Federation will help farmers at a level that Amul does by engaging in fair practices of procuring milk and providing appropriate pricing," said Shah after unveiling the logo of Amul's new venture at a function at Amul Dairy. This event marked the completion of four years since the formation of the ministry of cooperation. Representatives of milk producers from 20 states, other than Gujarat, from where Amul procures milk, were present at the gathering. The new federation will have an initial corpus of Rs 200 crore. "Today, 36 lakh in Gujarat and 20 lakh more across India power Amul's operations. Thanks to their efforts, Amul's current turnover stands at Rs 80,000 crore. Next year, we will cross Rs 1 lakh crore — and the profit will go straight into the accounts of 56 lakh women," said Shah. TOI reported that the new multi-state cooperative federation, which will be governed under the Multi-State Co-operative Societies Act, 2002, was being formed in the year that marks the International Year of Cooperatives as declared by the United Nations, and the fourth year of the formation of the ministry of cooperation. The year also marks 150th birth anniversary year of Sardar Patel, who sowed the seeds of Amul. The governing structure of the new federation will comprise multiple stakeholders, including a GCMMF representative (20% equity), representatives of 10 milk unions of Gujarat (60% equity), and three board members representing farmers from outside Gujarat (20% equity).

Bengaluru's public sector undertaking contract workers to join nationwide protest on July 9
Bengaluru: Several public sector undertakings (PSUs) in Bengaluru could face staff shortages on July 9, as thousands of contract workers plan to join a nationwide protest against the Centre's new labour code. The protest was announced during a convention held at Gandhi Bhavan by the Govt and Public Sector Non-Permanent Workers Joint Forum (Bengaluru), with the participation of workers from HAL, BEML, BEL, DRDO, BWSSB, Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited, and others. Forum leaders said nearly 23,000 contract workers are affected in Bengaluru alone. Many have served over 15 years, yet remain on temporary rolls. They argue the new labour code weakens job security, eases hiring and firing, and restricts union rights. Their key demands include regularising Group C and D roles, revising the minimum wage to Rs 42,000, and removing the Rs 23,000 cap under the ESI Act. Gujarat second in oilseeds production, third in spices
Ahmedabad: Gujarat continued to improve its agricultural productivity, ranking third nationally in spices production with a gross value of output (GVO) of Rs 14,700 crore in 2023-24, according to the recently released 'Statistical Report on Value of Output from Agriculture and Allied Sectors (2011-12 to 2023-24)' by the Union ministry of statistics and programme implementation. Gujarat remained dominant in fibre crops, primarily cotton, retaining the top spot with a production value of Rs 24,900 crore. Gujarat's spices sector too recorded exceptional growth, with GVO increasing by 161%. Other crops also recorded significant growth during this period. Pomegranate saw an 8.5-fold increase, with GVO rising from Rs 305 crore to Rs 2,897 crore. In oilseeds, Gujarat narrowly lost its top national position to Rajasthan, ranking second with a production value of Rs 29,100 crore compared to Rajasthan's Rs 30,600 crore in 2023-24. Gujarat's oilseeds sector grew by 31% during the review period. Soybean emerged as a standout performer among oilseeds, with its GVO rising from Rs 72 crore in 2011-12 to Rs 806 crore in 2023-24.
