Man who abused builders at Co Wicklow site convicted and fined
Philip Lifely from Rednagh Hill, Aughrim, Co Wicklow was found guilty of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour with intent to provoke a breach of the peace at Lawlor's Hotel car park in Aughrim on 29 April last year.
A crowd of protesters had gathered at the hotel that day apparently in the mistaken belief it was being renovated to accommodate people seeking asylum.
The Department of Integration confirmed at the time that the building was not being used for international protection applicants, but Lifely threatened and abused the builder and ordered him to leave the site.
Footage uploaded on social media which was played in court and remains online, shows Philip Lifely telling the builder to "get the f**k out, end of".
Lifely then asks the crowd if "anyone else agree with that?" "Should they get the f**k out?"
"We're not here to f**king talk to them, get out, with your f**king crew," he shouts at the builder.
"Get the f**k out, in the van, get out, now."
The crowd then starts clapping and shouting "out out out" before Lifely shouts again at the builder "go on, get the f**k, what are you standing there for, want me to pack your tools up, do you?"
The builder stands there looking down without replying and Lifely then shouts at him: "I'm giving you an hour, get the f**k out or I'll pack your f**king tools up."
"We're not talking anymore, that's it, we're fed up, fed up," he also shouts.
Gardaí in Wicklow commenced a criminal investigation and Lifely was arrested four days later and subsequently charged with an offence under Section 6 of the Public Order Act.
He was convicted at Arklow District Court and Judge David Kennedy today fined him €750.
The Ireland First candidate Darren Mc Govern, who failed to get elected to Wexford County Council last year, is also seen in the video last year telling the builder "you can understand the frustration of the people, and it's warranted, it is warranted".
Mr Mc Govern announces to applause that the builder has agreed to pull his team off site within an hour and tells everybody to remain "to give him the opportunity" to leave.
He did not commit any criminal offence.
The Government has condemned attacks on and the intimidation of workers.

Woman in her 70s killed in collision between car and truck in Co Meath
A WOMAN IN her 70s has died following a collision between a car and a truck this morning in Co Meath. The collision occurred near Drogheda at Platin Terrace shortly after 10.30am. Man charged over seizure of €31m worth of cocaine in Cork says ‘I'm f****ng sorry'

Four men have appeared before a court in West Cork charged in connection with the seizure of €31 million worth of cocaine in Courtmacsherry in west Cork on Tuesday. All four men have been remanded in custody. One of the men has an address in Germany whilst three of the men are British nationals. Det Garda Curran told the court that Mr Hibbett stated 'I'm fucking sorry, that's it' when he put the possession of cocaine for sale or supply charge to him earlier today at Togher Garda Station. Solicitors Myra Dineen and Plunkett Taaffe, representing Mr Gulay and Mr Doherty respectively, said that their clients were reserving their positions on bail. Both solicitors opted to stand in for Frank Buttimer for Mr Sandford and for solicitor Eddie Burke for Mr Hibbett. They confirmed that they were also not seeking bail for either man at this juncture. Sgt Tom Mulcahy told Judge Joanne Carroll that gardai were seeking a remand in custody for all four men who will appear in Macroom District Court on July 9th. Judge Carroll remanded all four accused to appear in court on that date. Judge Carroll also requested that defence solicitors provide two days notice to gardai if their clients intend to make bail applications on the next occasion. All four men also have to supply statement of means to the court. The men were held under drugs trafficking legislation which allowed gardai to detain them for seven days. Man hospitalised in vicious assault one day after failed 'citizens arrest'
A group of people attempted a 'citizens arrest' on a man in Limerick just one day before he was viciously assaulted and hospitalised. On Monday, June 30, Gardaí said a number of members of the public expressed their concern to officers at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick City, for the alleged behaviour of a man who had earlier been seated in the People's Park. This followed a widely circulated false social media post on Sunday, purporting false claims that a man allegedly attempted to 'call a child to come with him', with a picture of the man also being shared. On Monday, a group found the man in the park, recording him as they subjected the bewildered man to verbal abuse and baseless accusations of inappropriate behaviour, before walking the man to Henry Street Garda Station, around five minutes away from the park. This video was also posted to various social media platforms, being shared across X by a number of accounts. In the video one person can be heard telling the man 'I should hack your head off'. In another video the group can be seen walking the man to Henry Street Garda Station. Gardaí confirmed that after carrying out enquiries, officers were satisfied that the alleged conduct was "not of a criminal nature and was nothing untoward". Gardaí also said the man "fully co-operated with Gardaí during the course of their enquiries". On Tuesday, July 3, the same man who was subjected to vile abuse in People's Park was viciously assaulted outside Colbert Station on Limerick's Parnell Street at around 3:45pm, in an attack that has been condemned by local councillors and charity organisations. Authorities have also urged for the public to not share any of the posts on social media related to these incidents. It has understandably caused fear and distress within migrant communities – and, rightly, outrage among the vast majority of people in Limerick who reject racism and vigilantism. 'Limerick has a proud tradition of being a welcoming and inclusive city. Organised hate and harassment of any group has no place here – and it must not be tolerated. 'We urge everyone: please do not share or engage with posts or videos that spread false claims. Doing so can put innocent people in real danger.
