
AWS Launches Aurora DSQL to Eliminate Global Database Trade-offs
Aurora DSQL features an active-active architecture that allows applications to perform read and write operations from any regional endpoint, ensuring strong data consistency and durability. This design supports 99.999% availability across multiple regions and 99.99% within a single region, eliminating the need for manual failover processes and reducing the risk of data inconsistencies during outages.
The database is compatible with PostgreSQL, enabling developers to utilize familiar tools and frameworks. However, it currently supports a subset of PostgreSQL features, with certain functionalities like foreign keys, views, triggers, and sequences not yet available. Aurora DSQL employs optimistic concurrency control to enhance throughput and system efficiency by avoiding resource locking during transaction execution.

To achieve strong consistency with low latency across regions, Aurora DSQL decouples transaction processing from storage, allowing parallelized writes and reducing the need for multiple data exchanges. It also integrates the Amazon Time Sync Service, which synchronizes operations globally with microsecond-level accuracy using satellite-connected atomic clocks.
Aurora DSQL automatically scales compute, I/O, and storage resources based on workload demands, removing the need for manual provisioning or infrastructure management. This serverless approach ensures that applications can handle varying workloads without performance degradation or downtime.
Several organizations, including Razorpay, Electronic Arts, Klarna, QRT, and Autodesk, are exploring Aurora DSQL to support their global operations. Razorpay aims to leverage the database's multi-region strong consistency to enhance the resilience and scalability of its financial applications.

Amazon announces job cuts across its AWS Unit
Amazon is said to have cut hundreds of jobs in its Amazon Web Services (AWS) unit, as the company continues to invest billions in its data centre infrastructure as part of an AI push. Reuters reported Amazon confirmed the job cuts, but it did not provide an exact number. The news agency reported in June Amazon CEO Andy Jassy warned the use of generative AI would lead to a reduction in its workforce. 'We've made the difficult business decision to eliminate some roles across particular teams in AWS', a representative for Amazon told Reuters. 'These decisions are necessary as we continue to invest, hire, and optimise resources to deliver innovation for our customers'. Several impacted employees told Reuters yesterday (17 July) they had lost their jobs and their computers were deactivated. Amazon spent $24.3 billion on capex in Q1, down from $26.3 billion a year ago. The company revealed new offerings now available in the AWS Marketplace, including falcon-mcp , a managed control plane server for the CrowdStrike Falcon® platform, and CrowdStrike AI Red Team Services . These tools are part of the new AI Agents and Tools category, designed to help customers operationalize agentic AI workflows and secure generative AI (GenAI) systems directly within their AWS environments. CrowdStrike reported that although AI adoption is growing, enterprises often lack secure, scalable frameworks to connect models with real-time security operations. Without proper validation, agentic AI poses new risks. Now available in preview via Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, falcon-mcp enables seamless integration of AI agents and LLM-based applications with Falcon telemetry. This includes access to detections, incidents, threat intelligence, and behavioral data—helping to streamline secure AI deployments. CrowdStrike AI Red Team Services offer in-depth assessments of AI systems, including LLM integrations. These evaluations identify vulnerabilities and misconfigurations that may expose systems to breaches or unauthorized actions. The services align with security standards such as the OWASP Top 10 for LLMs. According to Daniel Bernard, Chief Business Officer at CrowdStrike, agentic AI is transforming industries, but secure integration is essential for long-term scalability. Jay McBain, Chief Analyst at Canalys, noted that the risks of LLMs are becoming more tangible. He stated that CrowdStrike's AWS partnership raises the bar for secure AI operationalization. Key highlights include: falcon-mcp provides open, secure AI-to-Falcon integration provides open, secure AI-to-Falcon integration AI Red Team Services help test and harden GenAI systems CrowdStrike and AWS continue to offer integrated security for AI applications, models, and services. This includes native support for Amazon SageMaker and Bedrock. CrowdStrike's platform also features tools like AI Security Posture Management (AI-SPM) and Falcon Data Protection.
