Solar panels to be installed in group housing societies
New Delhi: Delhi govt is going to identify cooperative group housing societies and dairy cooperative societies for the installation of solar panels under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. Senior officials of the ministry of cooperatives recently held a meeting with the officials of the registrar of cooperative societies for this purpose. Both central govt and Delhi govt offer a subsidy on the installation of rooftop solar panels. According to officials, Delhi govt has adopted a focused campaign to popularise the installation of rooftop solar panels under the scheme by involving cooperative societies. A joint secretary in the Union ministry of cooperation discussed the strategies for implementing the scheme through cooperative societies. "It was decided in a meeting that at least one housing cooperative society and one dairy society be identified under the initial phase," said an official of the Delhi's registrar of cooperative societies. The official added that managing committees, unions and federations of cooperative group housing societies have been requested to start identifying a housing cooperative society with enough space for rooftop solarisation. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cyprus investments might be cheaper than you think Cyprus Investments | Search Ads Get Info Undo You Can Also Check: Delhi AQI | Weather in Delhi | Bank Holidays in Delhi | Public Holidays in Delhi Though Delhi govt has been pushing for the popularisation of rooftop solar power, it has not picked up much. New terminal construction for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International airport to take off by 2026
Ahmedabad: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPIA) airport is set to undergo a major overhaul, with the construction of a new integrated terminal building (NITB) scheduled to begin by March 2026. According to people familiar with the matter, a proposal has been moved by Adani Ahmedabad International Airport Ltd (AAIAL) before the state and Union govt departments for the relocation of the existing air traffic control (ATC) tower, the state hangar, as well as the general aviation (GA) terminal. The sweeping infrastructure changes is expected to unlock space for a single, expansive facility that can accommodate rising passenger traffic over the next decade. Sources told TOI that the project will be executed in two phases. Once the first phase is operational, the bid to move the ATC to a new location will begin. "To ensure seamless movement of flights, the airport needs to be fully equipped, and therefore, the preparations have to be underway well in advance. Therefore, the proposals have been moved well in advance for approvals," a source said. The Adani Group is set to invest nearly Rs 96,000 crore in its airports business over the next five years, with a significant focus on infrastructure and real estate development. With Ahmedabad being proposed as one of the potential host cities for the 2036 Olympic Games, the development is being positioned as a key enabler of global connectivity and urban readiness. "The aim is to complete the construction in two phases before 2036. If India wins the bid to host the Olympics, and Ahmedabad is selected as a venue, the new terminal must be ready to handle the anticipated influx of international traffic with the best facilities," said a top source familiar with the project. You Can Also Check: Ahmedabad AQI | Weather in Ahmedabad | Bank Holidays in Ahmedabad | Public Holidays in Ahmedabad To begin with, the NITB will replace the current Gujsail terminal, which will be shifted to another location. It is expected to double the airport's current handling capacity, offering facilities for up to 2 crore passengers annually, a substantial leap from the 1.2 crore recorded in FY 2025. Once commissioned, the new terminal will consolidate both domestic and international operations, enabling seamless transit for passengers. "The design includes more check-in counters, multiple security checkpoints, expansive lounges, and at least 10 aerobridges, significantly reducing queue times and enhancing the overall passenger experience. The use of DigiYatra technology will ensure that fliers can move from the airport gate to the boarding gate in as little as 12 minutes. The new infrastructure will eliminate bottlenecks at the domestic terminal and allow for future scalability in line with airline fleet expansions and passenger growth," a source said. The existing domestic terminal, T1, will be razed once the NITB is operational, freeing up further space for integrated airport expansion. As expansion work on the existing international terminal, T2, is almost completed, some domestic operations may be shifted there to ease current congestion in the coming days, the source added. Box: New integrated terminal At a glance - Location: To come up at the existing Gujsail terminal site - Construction timeline: Begins March 2026, completion in two phases by 2036 - Proposed investment: Rs 3,130 crore - Key relocations: Existing ATC and GA terminal to be shifted - Passenger handling: Capacity to rise to 2 crore annually - Facilities: DigiYatra-enabled, 10+ aerobridges, larger lounges, more F&B and retail options, faster check-ins

Allahabad HC: Can't limit zero-period relief once state accepts delay in land handover
Noida: The Allahabad High Court has upheld that 'zero-period' waivers extended to real estate developers for delays in delivering projects for reasons beyond their control must be granted in full. In its July 25 order, the court quashed a Greater Noida Authority's order that denied zero-period benefit to developer Empire E-Parks. The court directed the development authority to ensure the company received a 'zero-period' waiver on interest and penal interest accrued by the developer for the 18 years during which the construction was stalled, as it could not take possession of the allotted land. The ruling, which draws parallels to an earlier Gaurasons India Ltd case, is expected to have far-reaching implications for several ongoing disputes in Noida, Greater Noida and Yamuna Expressway areas where builders and allottees could not get timely possession of land over encroachment by farmers, litigation or delay in development of infrastructure. You Can Also Check: Noida AQI | Weather in Noida | Bank Holidays in Noida | Public Holidays in Noida Empire E-Parks was allotted 80,941 square metres (sqm) under IT/ITES category in Knowledge Park V by the Greater Noida Authority on Sept 27, 2007. A 90-year lease was executed on Sept 12, 2008. The premium for the plot was Rs 13 crore, of which about Rs 4 crore was paid upfront, and the balance Rs 9 crore was to be paid in 12 half-yearly instalments with 11% interest. Between 2007 and 2019, the company claimed to have paid Rs 17.6 crore, Rs 32 lakh as lease rent, and Rs 1.5 crore in stamp duty. Despite payments, the company claimed the Authority failed to develop external infrastructure, like roads and sewer lines. In Oct 2008, it wrote to GNIDA stating that even after paying Rs 4.6 crore and another Rs 50 lakh in interest, there was no basic development on the plot. An RTI response from the Authority in Jan 2009 admitted that roads were still under construction. Farmers had also encroached on a portion of the land, reportedly because they were not compensated for the acquisition, making construction work impossible. The company filed a petition in the high court in 2012 seeking completion of infrastructure. It also demanded that Authority extend them a zero-period waiver from Nov 2007—the date of allotment money deposit—until the date full possession was given. In 2018, it again applied to GNIDA for zero-period benefits, but its application was rejected on March 13, 2020, based on the Authority's 107th board meeting resolution that restricted zero-period benefits only to cases involving court stay orders or unexecuted lease deeds due to govt orders. The petitioner challenged this order by filing another petition in 2020, which was disposed of with directions to approach the state govt. In its revision petition before the state govt, the company argued that it had already deposited around Rs 18 crore against the total premium of Rs 13 crore and that the Authority failed to hand over unencumbered land or complete infrastructure. It said farmers were still occupying parts of the land with electricity connections in their names. A letter dated July 27, 2017, from GNIDA's senior manager confirmed encroachment by farmers. On Feb 28, 2023, the state govt directed GNIDA to reconsider the case and determine the extent of encroachment and the duration construction was obstructed, but stopped short of granting full zero-period benefit. The high court, however, noted that the Authority's counter-affidavit filed in Aug 2024 admitted that full possession of the land was still not handed over and that farmers' encroachment continued even in 2024. Referring to its previous decision in the Gaurasons India case, where full zero-period benefit was granted for the entire duration of encroachment, the court held that once the state itself accepts that encroachment delayed construction, it cannot limit the relief. The bench of Justice Prakash Padia quashed the order dated March 13, 2020, and modified the order dated Feb 28, 2023, to remove any restriction on zero period. It directed GNIDA and UP govt to grant Empire E-Parks zero-period benefit from the date of allotment on Sept 27, 2007, until "full, peaceful, and uninterrupted physical possession" of the entire plot was handed over.
