Indian tourist jailed for molesting 12-year-old child in Singapore
Pramender, 25, who goes by only one name and was a tourist here, pleaded guilty on Friday to one charge of attempting to procure the commission of an indecent act by a child and one charge of molesting a child under 14, according to a Channel News Asia (CNA) report.
A third charge of trespassing was taken into account for his sentencing.
Pramender was accused of following the victim to the toilet at Jalan Besar swimming complex, where she was with her family on Mar 31, the CNA report said on Friday.
Pramender also took the girl's phone and accessed her Instagram account and used it to follow his account. He later sent 13 inappropriate messages to her on Instagram. The victim got scared seeing the messages and reported the incident to the lifeguard on duty.
The victim's mother later complained to police, following which Pramender was arrested on April 2.
During the court hearing on Friday, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ashley Chin noted that the victim was young and vulnerable at 12 years old, and that there was 'some degree of exploitation'.
While pronouncing his verdict, District Judge Chay Yuen Fatt noted that the situation could have been worse if the victim's cousins were not there to protect her from Pramender.
As per Singaporean law, the punishment for attempting to procure the commission of an indecent act by a child below 16 years old is a jail term of up to seven years, a fine of up to S$10,000, or both. For molesting a child under 14 years old, Pramender could have faced a jail term of up to five years, a fine, caning, or any combination of the three.

New details in the Gurugram murder case revealed that victim Radhika Yadav was part of a music video, which her father had approved. She had featured in a romantic music video in 2024 alongside an independent artist. Radhika, a 25-year-old former tennis player, was shot dead by her father Deepak at their residence in the upscale Sushant Lok area of Gurugram on Thursday, July 10. The father confessed to killing his daughter and was arrested on July 11. Earlier, police had mentioned that a particular music video of Radhika might have caused tensions within her household, and confirmed that this aspect will also be probed. Inam-ul-Haq, who worked as an actor in the music video, told news agency ANI that on the music video set, Radhika had "mentioned that her father liked the song, which means she took permission from her father also..." He said Radhika was accompanied by her mother during the shooting of the music video. "When we met her for the first time, she told us that she wants to work in this line -- ads, movies, music videos,...She desired to work in this that, we never met," Inam said. He revealed that Radhika had promoted the song on her social media days later. "We were in contact during the release of the deactivated and reactivated her Instagram account around 2-3 times...," he claimed. Radhika Yadav was shot death by her father on July 10. Her father reportedly felt that he was financially well off and also earned from rental income, so there was no need for his daughter to run an academy, the police claimed.

The act "clearly reflects criminal intent and involvement in unlawful activities. I request you to take immediate cognisance of the seriousness of this matter and initiate prompt action.
