Canadian frigate's transit through Taiwan Strait "violation of peace"

Saba Yemen17-02-2025
Beijing - Saba:
The Chinese army considered the transit of the Canadian frigate HMCS Ottawa through the Taiwan Strait to undermine peace and stability in the region.
This came according to a statement published by the official account of the Eastern Region Operations Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army on the "WeChat" application today, Monday.
The spokesman for the Eastern Region Operations Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Li Shi, said:
"The Canadian side's statements distort legal principles and are misleading, and its actions deliberately create chaos and unrest and undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait."
He added that "the forces of the operations area are in a state of constant combat readiness and resolutely resist all threats and provocations."
The situation around Taiwan had become significantly more tense after the visit of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in early August 2022, which was condemned by China, which considers the island one of its provinces, and considered that visit as American support for Taiwanese separatism.
Official relations between the Chinese central government and Taiwan were severed in 1949 after the Kuomintang forces led by Chiang Kai-shek, who had been defeated in a civil war with the Chinese Communist Party, moved to Taiwan.
Commercial and unofficial contacts between the island and mainland China resumed in the late 1980s. Since the early 1990s, the two sides have been in contact through non-governmental organizations such as the Beijing Association for the Promotion of Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and the Straits Exchange Foundation in Taipei.

US Analysts Urge Washington to Engage South Yemen to Counter Houthi Threat

Aden — A growing chorus of American defense analysts and foreign policy experts is calling on the Biden administration to recalibrate its strategy in Yemen by engaging directly with southern Yemeni factions, particularly the Southern Transitional Council (STC), to help resolve the enduring Houthi insurgency. According to a recent report published by Stars and Stripes, the failure of past military campaigns to decisively weaken the Iran-backed Houthi movement has prompted calls for a regional realignment. Advocates argue that southern forces possess territorial control, military discipline, and popular legitimacy that could be leveraged to contain Houthi expansion and restore stability. The STC, controls key areas including Aden, Mukalla, and strategic ports along the Gulf of Aden. Experts suggest that bolstering these forces could create a counterbalance to Houthi dominance in the north, especially as the Houthis continue to launch drone and missile attacks on Red Sea shipping and Israeli targets. The proposal remains controversial, given the STC's separatist ambitions and the complex web of alliances in Yemen. However, proponents argue that realpolitik demands a shift from idealistic unity frameworks to pragmatic partnerships that reflect realities on the ground.

Democratic Front condemns 'Death Snare' massacre in Khan Younis

Gaza - Saba: The Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) condemned in the strongest terms the new Israeli massacre perpetrated by enemy forces this morning south of Khan Younis, which claimed the lives of more than 21 Palestinians, most of whom died of suffocation as a result of the heavy firing of tear gas canisters at crowds of citizens gathered to receive American aid. This led to a stampede and intense panic, resulting in this large number of deaths and injuries. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (Saba), the DFLP considered this horrific massacre, which is being recorded for the first time in terms of both numbers and method, to reflect a new systematic approach to killing Palestinians by transforming aid distribution centers into veritable "death traps." Killing is no longer limited to bombing and starvation, but now includes more sinister methods that exploit people's need for food to survive, turning them into direct targets for policies of humiliation, starvation, and intimidation. The Democratic Front affirmed that the enemy, with the support of the American establishment, is continuing to implement a policy of genocide using various tools, ranging from siege and starvation, to direct killing, and even turning aid into a deadly trap, in flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian laws and norms. The Front held the Israeli enemy fully responsible for this massacre, calling for the formation of an independent international investigation committee to hold its perpetrators accountable, as it constitutes a crime against humanity. It also held the American establishment responsible for complicity in this crime, whether through its silence on these crimes or through its field, logistical, and political support for the enemy, turning its aid into tools of pressure and humiliation. It called on the United Nations and its relief agencies, including UNRWA, to assume their full responsibilities in directly supervising the aid distribution process and ensuring its safe and dignified delivery to citizens, free from the control and political exploitation of the occupation. It called on the Palestinian people to unite and stand firm, reject policies of humiliation, continue the national struggle against the enemy and its projects, and uphold their rights to a dignified life, liberation, and independence. She stated that this new crime adds to a long record of massacres and violations, and will not be forgotten. It will remain a testament to the brutality of the enemy and its allies, and to the legendary steadfastness of our people in the face of hunger, death, and international abandonment. PFLP Strongly Condemns Zionist Airstrikes on Syria

Beirut - Saba: The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) on Wednesday strongly condemned the Zionist airstrikes on Syria, which resulted in a number of martyrs and wounded. In a statement received by the Yemeni News Agency (SABA), the PFLP said that this aggression represents a new episode in the ongoing series of Zionist crimes against the peoples of the region. 'This attack comes as part of an open Zionist escalation on multiple fronts, foremost among them the continued brutal massacres against our people in the Gaza Strip, settler crimes in the West Bank, and ongoing assaults on Lebanese territory—violating sovereignty and aiming to break national will,' the statement read. The PFLP warned that these actions are part of broader Zionist-American plans to sow division, incite sectarianism, and spread terror across the region. The Front expressed full solidarity with Syria, affirming its support for the unity of the Syrian land and people, and reaffirmed Syria's absolute right to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
