Miami Dolphins' secondary gets makeover, remains team's biggest concern entering camp
Perhaps no position group will be under more scrutiny during Dolphins training camp than the secondary. The unit underwent massive changes since the end of the 2024 season and its performance will be a key to how strong the defense will be in 2025.

How they performed
The Dolphins were ninth against the pass last season, but as you'll see, the cast of characters is changing considerably.
Miami had just 10 interceptions in 2024 and defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver has made creating turnovers a priority.
Duck was a pleasant surprise – call him 2024's answer to Kader Kohou, who suddenly is among the most experienced players in Miami's secondary.
Smith continued to struggle with fitness and playing time.

The Dolphins added Davis, Melifonwu and Burns in free agency.
But they lost Holland.
Then they traded away Ramsey for a familiar face in Fitzpatrick, which, at least as far as the secondary is concerned, offered a net gain of zero established vets in the defensive backfield.
Holland didn't have his best year last season and, although he was a good player for Miami overall, his career didn't hit the high note some expected it to. He hasn't, for example, made a single Pro Bowl.
The Dolphins lost experience with Fuller and Poyer gone, but Poyer in particular was disappointing last season.
So put it all together and the talent lost should not be overstated.
Having said that, where are the replacements or reinforcements?
For various reasons, Davis, Melifonwu and Burns made four starts combined for their teams last season.
They had two interceptions combined.
The No. 1 reason to be concerned about this team is the secondary, and it's not even close. The offense should score points, but can the defense stop people from doing the same?
Can the Dolphins really be optimistic facing Josh Allen (twice), Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert and Jayden Daniels with a patchwork secondary?
Bottom line: Last year's model or this year's?
Last year. Clearly.

Atlanta gave third-round pick Xavier Watts reps with the first-team defense at Saturday's practice The Atlanta Falcons completed their second training camp practice on Saturday morning, and they continue to tweak things on defense. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich is making sure to see what he's got at all positions, including safety. Third-round pick Xavier Watts was considered one of the draft's biggest steals, and he's already getting reps with the first-team defense. Atlanta has so many new faces on defense that it makes sense for Ulbrich try different rotations. Thus far, he hasn't been shy about doing so along the defensive line. Aside from Watts running with the first-team defense, Ulbrich used several different combinations up front, per team reporter Tori McElhaney. "This is a heavily rotating DL, so they are getting a lot of work with the 1st and 2nd team," McElhaney wrote on Twitter. "Same with Ruke Orhorhoro, Brandon Dorlus, David Onyemata, Zach Harrison, Leonard Floyd, Arnold Ebiketie, etc. The pairings and groupings are ever changing almost play in and play out." The Falcons finished 31st in the NFL with 31 defensive sacks last season and have since lost Pro Bowl defensive tackle Grady Jarrett. Orhorhoro and Dorlus didn't receive much playing time as rookies, but both are expected to help fill the void in 2025. Ebiketie is entering a contract year and should have every incentive to play his best this season. The former second-round pick has added competition with rookies Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. expected to play major roles as well. Falcons wide receiver DJ Chark Jr. made his camp debut on Saturday. The former Pro Bowler was spotted wearing a the No. 16 as he looks to help fill in for an injured Darnell Mooney (shoulder). Titans' Treylon Burks suffers right shoulder injury during diving catch
Associated Press NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee Titans wide receiver Treylon Burks hurt his right shoulder on a diving catch out of bounds Saturday in a practice at Nissan Stadium. He got up and immediately grabbed at his right shoulder. Burks then walked to the locker room with training staff. Coach Brian Callahan said in a statement that Burks was being evaluated for a shoulder injury: 'We'll have an update on his status at the appropriate time.' NFL Network reported that Burks broke his collarbone and will have more tests. Burks was the Titans' first-round draft pick at No. 18 overall in 2022, a selection acquired by trading Pro Bowl wide receiver A.J. Brown to Philadelphia. Burks has been injured more often than not in his first three seasons out of Arkansas. The 6-foot-2, 222-pound receiver has started 17 of 27 games played out of a possible 51 since being drafted. Burks has caught 53 of 94 passes thrown to him for 699 yards and one touchdown catch. Burks was knocked out on that TD catch in Philadelphia in 2022 and missed the next two games. He was carted off the field with a concussion in 2023 after trying to make a leaping catch late in a blowout loss to Pittsburgh.
