Limerick FC re-instated to LOI Academy after U-turn

Irish Examiner2 days ago

Limerick FC's two National League sides have been re-instated to their respective League of Ireland Academy Leagues for the remainder of the season.
The Irish Examiner has learned that fixtures have been communicated to Klub Kildare and Kerry FC ahead of action in the U15 and U17 competitions this weekend.
Earlier on Thursday, this paper reported how the clubs President Pat O'Sullivan had informed the FAI of the decision of the club to remove its last two teams in the competition. However, following displeasure expressed on Shannonside, it appears that an agreement with the FAI has been reached.
At the time of writing, this paper has yet to receive a reply from the club or the FAI, however, it is understood that fixtures were communicated to the clubs as well as match officials on Thursday afternoon.
Last weekend, the Men's U15 League of Ireland Tier 2 South commenced, with Wexford's home clash with Limerick removed. The Mid-West club were also removed from the League table on the FAI Connect App, leaving seven teams in the division.
A similar story applied to the U17s, who were also due to face Wexford.
Last month, Pro Football Soccer Enterprise claimed, via LinkedIn, to now 'own 49% of Limerick FC' and that they would, 'have the right to buy another 46% in 15 months bringing us to 95%'.
Pro Football Soccer Enterprise also has ties to Tampa Bay Mutiny FC in the United States and claims full ownership of Anargiroi FC, in Cyprus.
To date, this group has secured $111,639 from investors online in a bid to help fund this multi-club ownership model, which highlights 'following in the footsteps of groups such as Manchester City, Red Bull and Chelsea FC' as a main target..
The CEO of this group is Dennis Lukens, who was last July, appointed the Director of Football with Limerick FC. The American has a plethora of previous roles in the sport, including being the Head Coach of FC Krystal Kherson, in Ukraine, back in 2012/2013.
Limerick continues to field teams in the local Limerick District Schoolboy/girl league, having lost their U13M, U17W, U19M and their senior Men's and Women's team ahead of the 2020 season.

Philip Knowles joins leaders after eagle-fest, Seamus Power misses cut

US trio Chris Kirk, Philip Knowles and Andrew Putnam grabbed a share of the halfway lead at the Rocket Classic. After five straight missed cuts, Knowles eagled three of the four par fives at Detroit Golf Club en route to a 64 as he moved to 14-under par, Kirk joining him after a second 65 which started with three birdies. Putnam's 66 in the less favourable conditions later in the day completed the leading trio, one ahead of fellow American Jackson Suber who included five successive birdies in his round of 65. Meanwhile, despite improving on his opening-round 73, Seamus Power finished on level par for the tournament with golfers at six-under and better making it through to Saturday and Sunday. Joint overnight leader Aldrich Potgieter is among a trio on 12-under-par after a 70 on a day when he lost his share of the course record - set with Kevin Roy in the first round. Jake Knapp went one better with an 11-under-par 61 and a blemish-free round which included an eagle and nine birdies. That left him in a large group on 11-under-par which also includes England's Harry Hall and David Skinns, Roy and major champions Hideki Matsuyama and Collin Morikawa, who credited a change of putter for his 64.

Pádraig Harrington clashes with on-course reporter but still shares US Open lead

Pádraig Harrington holds a share of the lead at the US Senior Open at Broadmoor Golf Club - although he was involved in a post-round spat with former PGA Tour player and NBC golf analyst Roger Maltbie. The Dubliner shot his second successive round of 67 to move to six-under par for the tournament, leaving him tied at the top with American Stewart Cink and Australia's Mark Hensby. Cink's 66 was the best score so far at the tournament in Colorado Springs. "I've played pretty good golf but nothing spectacular," he said afterwards. Harrington, who won this event in 2022, is getting steady overall results, but his luck on individual holes was a little more disparate. He balanced six birdies against three bogeys. "Most of Thursday and Friday is jockeying for position, keeping yourself in the tournament, trying not to lose the tournament, but after the start I had today, I could have got some daylight between myself and the field and got out there," said Harrington, who birdied three of his first four holes. "I just have to go and do it all again the next two days." Alone in fourth place is Denmark's Thomas Bjorn, who sits three strokes behind the leaders after shooting a one-under-par 69. Darren Clarke has moved into a tie for seventh following a fine second-round 68 to sit on one-under par with fellow Ulster man Chris Devlin three strokes back on two-over – well inside the cut-line. Post round, Harrington and Maltbie had a verbal disagreement in front of fans, and captured on social media, apparently over a lost ball.
