Calandagan rules supreme for France in King George
Calandagan was the well-backed 11-10 favourite to turn the tables and after an incredibly patient ride from Mickael Barzalona he swept through to pick off all of his rivals and pass the gallant Kalpana ahead of the line for a one-length triumph.
It is the fifth time the race has been won by a horse carrying the green and red silks, with Shergar the most famous of the those winners after prevailing for the fourth Aga Khan, who died in February this year at the age of 88.

'I am so pleased for the horse, it was a competitive race,' said Graffard.
'The tactics during the race were not what I was expecting, when I saw Continuous going very steadily it was all different.
'When the filly (Kalpana) kicked on for home my horse was still travelling well, I was hoping he was going to catch her at the end. He lengthened so strongly, he's a very good horse.
'I wanted to see my horse getting into his rhythm and lengthening his stride, when I really saw him coming I started to shout.
'He won nicely again today, he's a good horse, that's two in row now in Group Ones.
'Mickael knows him very well and he has a lot confidence in the horse. You saw the ride he gave him, he had a lot of confidence and he won – we are so happy.'
Future plans could include another trip to York for the Juddmonte International, in which he was second to City Of Troy last year.
Graffard said: 'We'll see how he comes out of the race, but he's in the Juddmonte International and why not, I wouldn't mind going back there. I would have no problem bringing him back to 10 furlongs, but I will discuss it with the owner.
'A mile and a half is also the perfect distance for him, but he ran really strongly in the race at York last year and if he comes back really well, why avoid the race?
'We could maybe go for the Japan Cup at the end of the season, but he will have a big target somewhere.'
Jubilant rider Barzalona added: 'This means a lot and it has come at the right time for me.
'It's took a bit of time to win his Group One, but now he has won two in a row and to win a King George means a lot.
'He's a lovely horse to ride and he has an engine and a beautiful action. Once he finds his rhythm he is never going to let you down and as a jockey you just need to put him in the right spot and let him do the rest.
'I was very confident I would get to Kalpana and this is a great result.'

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak, with the Sweden international said to have asked to leave the Magpies this summer Former Liverpool star Stan Collymore has tipped Newcastle striker Alexander Isak to make the switch to Anfield this summer, claiming discussions have been ongoing for over 12 months. The Reds have been heavily linked with a move for the Swedish striker for several weeks but appeared to cool their interest when Newcastle refused to do business earlier in the window. In response, Liverpool pivoted to Hugo Ekitike, signing the French forward in a £79million deal. With the expected exits of Darwin Nunez and Federico Chiesa, combined with growing interest in Luis Diaz, Liverpool are believed to still be targeting new attackers before the transfer window closes, and Isak remains their top target. Collymore, who scored 35 goals for Liverpool, is confident the move will go ahead. "I can only see Alexander Isak joining Liverpool if he does leave Newcastle, which is now expected," he wrote in his column for CaughtOffside. "I think this has been something that's been ongoing probably for 12 months or more. I think the expectation from Newcastle was that it was going to be next season that other clubs were going to bid. "A lot of fans will want him to be sold abroad, but it doesn't work like that. If the player says that they're going to down tools unless you let me go to this specific club, it's very, very difficult for the club." The addition of Ekitike pushes Liverpool's total summer outlay beyond £265m, and should Isak arrive, the overall investment would likely top £400m. Collymore explained the reasoning behind the club's aggressive spending. He continued: "With Liverpool, I know that there probably will be some room for Diaz and or Nunez to go. But still, at the moment, if they were to get Isak across the line, you've got Diaz, Gakpo, Nunez, Salah, Wirtz, Ekitike, and potentially Isak. That's six top-quality front players. "So for me, it just says that Liverpool now are realising that if they're going to stay top of the Premier League, if they're going to continue to win Champions Leagues, but more importantly, win domestic leagues in the manner that Manchester City have done, they have to accept that Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Arsenal are going to continue to spend as more and more money pours into the Premier League. And I think that FSG have realised that they've got to do the same."

Tornado goes down a storm in Munich
Having been sent across Europe in pursuit of top-level success, in a race Bin Suroor and Murphy won with Benbatl in 2018, Tornado Alert was never too far off the pace and quickened up smartly to lead halfway up the home straight. Map Of Stars, bidding to provide his trainer Francis-Henri Graffard with a second Group One success in as many days following Calandagan's triumph in the King George at Ascot on Saturday, came from further back to throw down his challenge under James Doyle in the Wathnan Racing silks. But try as he might he could not get on terms with Tornado Alert, who was ultimately well on top at the line. Bin Suroor said: 'He won well, the ground was heavy and he's never run before on this ground, but he handled it well. 'I said to Oisin before the race 'just keep him happy and give him a chance', but he was travelling good all the way and when he came off the bridle he saw it out well.' Tornado Alert holds big-race entries in the Juddmonte International at York and the Celebration Mile at Goodwood next month, but Bin Suroor is in no rush to firm up future plans, adding: 'We'll see how he comes back after the race and then we'll make a decision. 'He's a horse who is improving all the time. He ran well at Royal Ascot, his form is very good and he has improved every time he has run. 'Physically he looks better now than when he finished fourth in the Guineas, but with time and age that is what you would expect. 'He has plenty of speed, but I think a mile and a quarter is his best trip at the moment.'

Man Utd hijack Brentford transfer just days after furious response to Bryan Mbeumo saga
Manchester United finally completed a sensational move for Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford earlier this month and it appears the Red Devils are ready to deal the Bees another blow Manchester United are aiming to gazump Brentford in the race for Metz wonderkid Idrissa Gueye after being left furious by the Bees. The Red Devils have already spent heavily this summer to bolster their frontline. The £63m signing of former Wolves star Matheus Cunha was followed by the £71m acquisition of Bryan Mbeumo, who eventually completed a switch to Old Trafford after weeks of protracted negotiations. And while United eventually managed to get their man, they weren't left particularly happy with the actions of their colleagues at Brentford. Red Devils chiefs had been left furious with Brentford's attempts to sell Mbeumo elsewhere, with Newcastle, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal all reportedly interested. United have accused Brentford of attempting to convince the forward to lower his wage demands, while they also thought the Bees increased their demands once a deal was close. And given the hostility between the two clubs at the current time, United have threatened to make things even worse by moving for a Brentford target. According to The Sun, both sides are going head to head for Metz youngster Idrissa Gueye. The teenager has emerged as a key target for Keith Andrews this summer, who may be forced to match the French side's asking price of £15m for Gueye to fight off competition from United and Burnley. It is suggested that the London side would be willing to offer the youngster instant Premier League football, while United see him as one for the future. Gueye, 18, is a product of the Metz academy and went on to score five goals in 17 Ligue 2 appearances last term. And he now faces a decision over his future, albeit United will hope that he follows in the footsteps of Mbeumo, who was only interested in signing for the Red Devils.
