Two new faces join the ICC Elite Panel of Umpires
Allahudien Paleker, a former first-class cricketer from South Africa, has officiated on-field in four Tests, 23 ODIs and 67 T20Is in men's international cricket and a total of 17 women's international games - having also officiated at major ICC tournaments such as Men's T20 World Cup 2024, and the Under-19 Men's Cricket World Cup 2024.
Alex Wharf brings a wealth of experience from his 16-year first-class career - having also featured in 13 ODIs for England. Wharf has officiated on-field in seven Tests, 33 ODIs, and 45 T20Is in men's international cricket - having stood at the recent ICC Men's and Women's Cricket World Cups, the respective Men's and Women's T20 World Cups in 2024, and the Men's Champions Trophy 2025.
ICC Chair Jay Shah gave his warm wishes to the two new entrants, Paleker and Wharf, while also thanking the outgoing umpires, Gough and Wilson.
'By definition, being an elite official brings with it scrutiny and pressure, but we are confident that both Allahuddien and Alex possess the temperament, experience and skill to deliver consistently at this very top level," Shah said.
"On behalf of the ICC, I wish them all the best for the upcoming season as well as for the future.
'We would also like to place on record our sincere thanks to both Joel and Michael for their services to the world game, over a number of years.'

Palekar expressed his gratitude for the promotion and acknowledged the support of his mentors, colleagues, and family.
'This is a significant moment in my umpiring career. It's an honour to be named in the elite panel, and I look forward to reposing the faith shown in me. Being on this panel brings both pride and responsibility, but I am confident that my experience officiating across formats will stand me in good stead," he said.
'I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family, friends, coaches, mentors, the ICC, and Cricket South Africa for backing me and all my colleagues who supported me over the years.
"To my father, Jamalodien, who was also an umpire. He is my inspiration and role model; his teachings have brought me to this stage.

Wharf acknowledged the guidance and support he has received throughout his career.

'This milestone would not have been possible without the amazing colleagues who have shared their expertise with me and those who have supported me both on and off the field. I look forward to continuing to learn from and work alongside them as I embark on this exciting new chapter in my career.'

Sharma makes significant gains in Women's ODI Batting Rankings
India's Deepti Sharma has leapt 10 slots to 23rd in the latest update of the ICC Women's ODI Batting Rankings. She returned an unbeaten and player-of-the-match-winning score of 62 in the first match in Southampton, which saw India open the series with a four-wicket win. This was closely followed by an unbeaten score of 30 in England's bounce-back at Lord's, where the hosts levelled the series with an eight-wicket win in a rain-affected match. The series decider is today at Durham. Another big mover in the batters list is Sophia Dunkley. Her 83 from 92 balls in the first match helped her rocket 24 spots to 52nd. These movements have pushed Australia's Ellyse Perry up one slot to fourth place and Marizanne Kapp of South Africa to 11th, just 17 rating points behind Australia's Ash Gardner (650 points) and re-entering the top 10. England's left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone continues her reign in the bowling rankings thanks to her three for 27 at Lord's. She has a 52-point lead over Gardner, who is in second place. Ecclestone also advanced three places to 18th in the all-rounders' list. Other movements in the bowling rankings include Charlie Dean's two slot-shift to ninth, Sneh Rana's leap to 21st place from 33rd place and Nat Sciver-Brunt's 15-slot advance to joint 48th. Ireland's Gaby Lewis has jumped five places to 18th in the ICC Women's T20I Batters Rankings. It is her first appearance in the top 20 of the list, and comes following her innings of 67, which set up Ireland's six-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in the first T20I of three in Dublin. They lead the three-match series 1-0. Zimbabwe's captain, Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano's innings of 42 in the same match saw her rewarded with a two-slot shift to 58th place. Lewis's teammates, Arlene Kelly, Cara Murray and Jane Maguire moved to 23rd, 48th and 56th among the bowlers, while Zimbabwe's Lindokuhle progressed nine slots to 83rd. Ponting sympathises with Gill after Lord's outburst ICC World Test Championship
With the series tied at 1-1 ahead of the Lord's Test last week, the closely fought third Test between England and India saw plenty of drama on the field. This included an animated flare-up between India skipper Shubman Gill and England openers towards the end of the third day of the Test. India had managed to equal England's first innings total of 387, and wanted to squeeze in two overs in the remaining six minutes of play. However, that wasn't possible as the English openers took their time to get ready, and the India skipper got involved in a heated discussion with Zak Crawley and then Ben Duckett. ICC Hall of Famer Ricky Ponting understood why Gill's aggressive posturing at Lord's was met with surprise. 'That was a little out of character from what I've known from Shubman in the past,' Ponting told host Sanjana Ganesan in the latest episode of The ICC Review. 'I am sure everyone that was there watching it and I know you would know him quite well, that's not what he's generally like.' However, the former Australia skipper said it was a case of Gill taking a stand for his team in the scenario. 'That's the captain standing up for his team, that's a captain really wanting to show that it's his team now and this is the way that we're going to play the game, and also, I guess, wanting to give a little bit back.' 'The UK can be a hard place to play. The crowds, as much as they love their game, can be as hostile a place to play as anywhere in the world. 'The media there, when you're in a big series, when it's an Ashes series or when it's England and India, the media always feel like they're right on top of your back as well.' Ponting also believes that in the middle of a high-octane Test, which India eventually lost by merely 22 runs, Gill needed to make his presence felt on his players, in a manner similar to former skipper Virat Kohli. 'I think that's him starting to put his stamp on his team. And a lot like Virat (Kohli) did, similar ways like that. Rohit (Sharma) probably was never as outwardly aggressive, I guess, especially to opposition players. 'I know he (Rohit) would quite often get aggressive with his teammates and try to bring the best out of them that way. But I love watching Shubman stand up for what he thought was right in the game last week.' With the series 2-1 in favour of the hosts, England and India will square off in the fourth Test in Manchester, starting on 23 July.

England, India headline latest ICC Women's Rankings update
With the series level at 1-1 and everything to play for in the decider, the first two ODIs between England and India delivered thrilling contests, with standout performances reflected in the ICC Women's Player Rankings. Deepti Sharma was one of the biggest movers in the batting rankings after her unbeaten 62 in the first ODI, which earned her the Player of the Match award and guided India to a successful chase of 259. She followed it up with another unbeaten 30 in the second ODI, which, despite coming in a losing cause, helped her climb 10 spots to No.23 in the ICC Women's ODI Batting Rankings. Sophia Dunkley's 83 off 92 balls in the first ODI played a key role in taking England to a strong total and earned her a jump of 24 places to No.52. Alice Davidson-Richards, who contributed with a solid 53, rose 40 spots to No.118.
