A day after having an incredible Rapid event, Classical World Champion Dommaraju Gukesh saw a dramatic freefall on the first day of the Blitz event at the SuperUnited Rapid and Blitz Chess Tournament in Zagreb on Saturday.
The 19-year-old managed just 1.5 points from nine rounds in the Blitz event as he lost seven of his nine games.

Gukesh's lone win came against World No. 3 Fabiano Caruana.
R Praggnanandhaa, the other Indian in the fray, had a mixed day where he scored 4.5 to slip to fourth in the overall standings with 13.5 points. He ended his day on a high with a win over fellow countryman Gukesh in the ninth (and final) round.

With a score of 7.5/9 on the opening day of the SuperUnited Blitz,
Magnus Carlsen
has now emerged as the sole leader going into the final day.
"Obviously, the score is shocking—and from what I could see, the games weren't very good either," Carlsen said of Gukesh's performance.
"The good thing for him is that it could not have gone any worse. It's never easy to have an overnight lead in these tournaments; 4 points over me and 3 over Duda is a lot.
"But it doesn't feel like that much when you don't have the experience. So far it's been poor, but hopefully for his sake he can calm down and play with a different attitude tomorrow—because now he doesn't have anything to lose, really."

Gukesh was at his prime in the rapid section, wherein he won as many as six games, including one against Carlsen, but the Indian was way below par in the blitz, which saw him losing six games on the opening day of the fastest version of the game.

NFL star Dak Prescott is quietly facing the biggest career reckoning of his Cowboys era

Dak Prescott faces his most critical NFL season yet (Image credits: Imagn Images) Dak Prescott begins his 10th NFL season carrying both a fresh four-year extension and the burden of unmet expectations in Dallas. While his contract runs through 2028, the calls for postseason success are louder than ever. In the eyes of many fans and analysts, the window is now — and the excuses are gone. For the Cowboys, it's no longer about potential, but delivery. Criticism builds despite contract and consistency One thing is that Dak Prescott always receives excessive criticism as the Dallas Cowboys quarterback and another that he is on the hot seat for the 2025 NFL season. Prescott's numbers speak for themselves — a reliable passer, a steady leader, and a consistent winner in the regular season. But in Dallas, none of that matters without January results. With every early playoff exit, the pressure intensifies. Critics now question not just his performance, but his ceiling. Dak Prescott should be a success story in the same vein as Tony Romo, as he went from being a mid-round pick to the highest-paid player in the league, yet he is still criticized more than almost anyone else in the NFL and this is shown by his inclusion in the list of quarterbacks on the hot seat 2025. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gold Is Surging in 2025 — Smart Traders Are Already In IC Markets Learn More Undo His path is remarkable, but the shadow of postseason failure continues to follow him. Dak Prescott's inclusion on the list of quarterbacks who are considered to be on the hot seat for the 2025 NFL season seems extreme, but it is based on the following aspects related to the Cowboys quarterback. Jonathan Trott Lavishes Huge Praise, Calls Gill A 'Carbon Copy' Of Kohli

Jonathan Trott praised India captain Shubman Gill's remarkable innings of 161 and 269 in the Edgbaston Test. Gill's 430 runs are the second-highest in a single Test. Former England batter Jonathan Trott was amazed by India captain Shubman Gill's remarkable innings of 161 in the second innings of the second Test against England at Edgbaston. Former England batter Jonathan Trott feels privileged to have witnessed current India captain Shubman Gill's remarkable double hundred and the second innings century in the Edgbaston Test, which had glimpses of another genius, Virat Kohli. Gill scored 269 and 161 in both Indian innings, making him the player with the second-highest individual aggregate of runs in a single Test (430), behind former England skipper Graham Gooch. 'Today, he showed how complete a batter he is. It reminded me of the previous Indian number four — almost a carbon copy of that genius. I don't think he could've dreamed of a better start to his first two Tests on this tour. Sure, he'd have liked to win at Headingley, but now he's hopefully set up a fantastic victory here tomorrow," Trott told JioHotstar. Former India pacer Varun Aaron also praised the visiting captain, highlighting Gill's hard work for the England tour. 'Shubman just can't seem to put a foot wrong, and I hope this form continues for as long as possible. But it hasn't happened by chance. He's put in a lot of hard work — even during the IPL — to improve as a red-ball player. He's tweaked his tactics, changed his technique a bit, and you can see the results. When someone as talented as Shubman Gill puts in the hard yards, he steps into that 'legend' territory," Aaron said. Shubman Gill amassed an impressive 430 runs across both innings, marking the second-highest total in a single Test, trailing only England's Graham Gooch who scored 456 runs (333 and 123) against India at Lord's in 1990. Gill became the second player to achieve 150-plus scores in both innings of a Test, following Allan Border (150* and 153) against Pakistan in Lahore in 1980. His performance also marked the first instance of a 250-plus and 150-plus score in a Test by a batter. The 25-year-old is only the second Indian, after Sunil Gavaskar, to record a double century and a century in the same Test. He surpassed former captain and legendary batter Virat Kohli (243 and 50) to achieve the highest aggregate by an Indian captain in a Test match. Gill is also the second Asian batter to score a 350-plus aggregate in a Test outside the subcontinent, following Pakistan's Hanif Mohammad (354: 17 and 337) at Bridgetown in 1958.
