Karnataka truckers' indefinite strike likely to hit Anna Bhagya
Shanmugappa said, 'On June 19, CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar promised to clear truckers' dues before July 5. The dues have been accumulating and there is no sign of any settlement. From February to June, truckers have to be paid around Rs 260 crore.' Truck owners are in distress. They have borrowed money to meet transport expenses.
They are now unable even to pay loan EMIs, and finance companies have started seizing their vehicles. Nearly 4,000 truckers have been affected, Shanmugappa said.
He said truckers had transported around 25 lakh tonnes of rice for distribution across the state. Under Anna Bhagya scheme, the state government distributes 10kg rice per person from families under the Below Poverty Line (BPL). Shanmugappa said that he is not affiliated to any political party and he is not politicising the issue.
'I am with the truckers. I requested the government to settle their unpaid dues. Till that is done, truckers will not transport rice,' Shanmugappa said.
Meanwhile, hamalis (labourers) involved in loading and unloading of rice alleged that their wages have not been paid.

Jhunjhunu: Khatu Shyamji temple committee has stepped in to rebuild the local PM Shri govt higher secondary school after the public works department (PWD) declared the school building as dilapidated and unsafe. Once the education department grants approval, the existing building will be demolished and the temple committee will start construction of a new building. The committee plans to build 32 classrooms over 25,000 square feet, including smart classes, a science lab, a library, a playground, security guard rooms, and other facilities. Following the school building mishap in Jhalawar district, Rajasthan govt has urged attention to school infrastructure. Responding promptly to this appeal, the temple committee offered to rebuild the school. Committee member Manvendra Singh Chauhan handed over a letter in this regard to schools principal Ranjana Jangid Saturday. The estimated cost of the construction is Rs 6 crore. According to the committee, construction will begin as soon as the necessary approvals from the education department are received. Barwala ex-MLA Indra Nain dies at 92
Hisar: Former MLA from Barwala constituency in Hisar district, Indra Singh Nain, passed away on Saturday at the age of 92. He had been ailing for some time and was undergoing treatment at Jindal Hospital in Hisar. Nain had adopted his nephew, advocate Jaiveer Nain, who performed the last rites. The funeral procession began from his native village, Hasangarh and concluded at the village cremation ground. A large number of people cutting across social and political lines attended the ceremony to pay their respects.
