Yankees Predicted to Make Drastic Bullpen Change, Move on From 2 Stars
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. The New York Yankees acquired Jake Bird, David Bednar and Camilo Doval at this year's trade deadline. Those additions could mean the end for some other pitchers in their bullpen. Luke Weaver and Devin Williams are both going to be free agents at the end of this year. Williams is a two-time All-Star and two-time Trevor Hoffman National League reliever of the Year. Weaver has been great in his time with the Yankees, becoming a key player last season. However, with the Yankees' recent additions all being under club control past this year, FanSided's Stephen Parello predicted the Yankees would cut ties with both Williams and Weaver in the offseason. NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 14: Devin Williams #38 and Luke Weaver #30 of the New York Yankees talk before the game against the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium on April 14, 2025 in... NEW YORK, NY - APRIL 14: Devin Williams #38 and Luke Weaver #30 of the New York Yankees talk before the game against the Kansas City Royals at Yankee Stadium on April 14, 2025 in New York, New York. More NewWilliams was expected to be a star for the Yankees, but things have not worked out as planned. He has a 5.01 ERA and was removed from the closer's role at one point this year. The Yankees did not hide their interest in replacing Williams, even though he remains in the closer's role for now. Bednar and Doval are both All-Star closers. "With two other relievers with ninth-inning experience now on the roster in David Bednar and Camilo Doval — both of whom are under team control beyond this season — the writing is on the wall for Williams," wrote Parello. "He'll survive the rest of the season, but he's a surefire goner once he hits free agency." Weaver had a 2.89 ERA last season, and was great for the Yankees in October. He picked up four saves, finished 12 games and had a 1.76 ERA. This year he has a 3.02 ERA. "Unfortunately, a 6.60 ERA since returning from the IL on June 20 has tanked what started off as a dominant season for Weaver, and now throws his future in doubt," wrote Parello. "In addition to Bednar and Doval, the Yankees also acquired Jake Bird from the Colorado Rockies, who, despite some real performance question marks, is under team control through 2028. That all makes for a crowded bullpen mix moving forward, and if Weaver commands too much money on the open market, he'll likely find himself suiting up elsewhere in 2026." Weaver and Williams could have been a dominant duo in the Bronx, and looked the part at times. However, the Yankees have set themselves up to move on in the offseason. New York Jets Schedule Predictions 2025: Game by Game Jets Predictions
The New York Jets went 5-12 season, a disappointing result but a much-needed one that brought changes to the organization. With a new regime in charge and Aaron Rodgers gone, each game on the Jets' schedule this year will deliver a glimpse at the future. So, while they won't win many games, it's all about taking steps forward in this new era. Let's dive into our game-by-game predictions based on the Jets' schedule. Week 1 vs Pittsburgh Steelers: Loss (0-1) This shouldn't be viewed as a revenge game for Aaron Rodgers, considering the Jets did everything he wanted for two years. However, the future Hall of Famer will absolutely treat it like one. The Pittsburgh Steelers roster is also significantly better than the Jets' roster and New York will be adjusting to a new coaching regime. All of that culminates in a 10-point loss. Prediction: Pittsburgh Steelers 27, New York Jets 17 Week 2 vs Buffalo Bills: Loss (0-2) Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has a career 9-4 record against the Jets, including three straight wins. He's going to extend that run in Week 2, running through and passing all over a Jets' defense that will still be settling into a new scheme. Justin Fields and the Jets' offense will put up a few points late in the second half, but the Bills largely dominate this one. Prediction: Buffalo Bills 34, New York Jets 20 Week 3 @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Loss (0-3) Facing two of the best teams in football in consecutive weeks is a tough draw for New York, and traveling to Florida in September doesn't make it any better. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the offensive line and complementary receivers to cause real trouble for New York's defense. Tampa Bay's interior defensive line will also cause havoc for Fields and the Jets' run game. It will be three consecutive two-score losses for New York. Prediction: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31, New York Jets 20 Week 4 @ Miami Dolphins: Loss (0-4) Realistically, this is the earliest in the season when the Jets will have a chance to win. Much like the matchup against Tampa Bay, though, Florida's excessive heat and Miami's high humidity will prove to be a problem. The Jets will keep it a lot closer against the Miami Dolphins, but a tired defense in the fourth quarter gives up a late scoring drive for a seven-point lead. Fields gets a shot at a game-winning drive, but the effort falls short. Prediction: Miami Dolphins 27, New York Jets 21 Week 5 vs Dallas Cowboys: Loss (0-5) While the Dallas Cowboys might not be as good as they were a few seasons ago, they have difference-makers at key positions. Dak Prescott can target George Pickens or CeeDee Lamb—whichever Sauce Gardner isn't covering—and the Cowboys' offensive line will give him time to throw. Meanwhile, Micah Parsons will lead a Dallas pass rush that records multiple sacks, helping keep the Jets' offense under 20 points. Prediction: Dallas Cowboys 24, New York Jets 17 Week 6 vs Denver Broncos: Loss (0-6) The good news is that the Jets' schedule finally lets up a bit after this Week 6 matchup. Unfortunately for New York, it is very poorly equipped to handle one of the league's best defenses. The Denver Broncos secondary can blanket Garrett Wilson, leaving Fields with very limited options while being pressured frequently. On the other side, Sean Payton and Bo Nix will run a well-orchestrated offense that eats up the clock and leads to long scoring drives. It will be a 0-6 start for New York. Prediction: Denver Broncos 24, New York Jets 13 Week 7 vs Carolina Panthers: Loss (0-7) Patience with this team is going to be critical in 2025. New York has the building blocks for long-term success, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. That will be further evident in this matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Trailing 27–21 in the fourth quarter, quarterback Bryce Young will keep moving the chains and then connect for the go-ahead touchdown with a few minutes remaining. The Jets' offense gets another chance, but a Fields interception ends it. Prediction: Carolina Panthers 28, New York Jets 27 Week 8 @ Cincinnati Bengals: Loss (0-8) For the first time since 2020 (2-14 record), the Jets will start a season 0–8. It will look competitive at times against the Cincinnati Bengals, as Fields, Wilson, and Breece Hall all deliver some big plays. Unfortunately for New York, its inability to stop Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins in the second half leads to a winless start heading into the bye week. Prediction: Cincinnati Bengals 31, New York Jets 24 Week 10 vs Cleveland Browns: Win (1-8) It takes until November, but New York finally wins its first game of the Aaron Glenn era. Myles Garrett and the Cleveland Browns defense will make things interesting, but that's only enough to make it a one-score game. Glenn's defense delivers an outstanding performance, neutralizing Cleveland's offense in a win the franchise desperately needs. Prediction: New York Jets 20, Cleveland Browns 13 Week 11 @ New England Patriots: (1-9) In their first meeting against the New England Patriots this season, the Jets witness quarterback Drake Maye begin his ascent into franchise-quarterback territory. New York's pass rush will have success getting into the Patriots' backfield, but Maye's athleticism allows him to avoid sacks and extend plays, setting up Stefon Diggs for some big catches. In a back-and-forth game, Maye and Diggs rally the Patriots to a Week 11 win. Prediction: New England Patriots 21, New York Jets 17 Week 12 @ Baltimore Ravens: Loss (1-10) There's not much that needs to be said about this matchup. The Baltimore Ravens are perfectly constructed to dismantle New York, exploiting their weaknesses and mitigating what few strengths they have. Lamar Jackson delivers an MVP-caliber performance, and Baltimore cruises to a home win over the Jets. Prediction: Baltimore Ravens 31, New York Jets 14 Week 13 vs Atlanta Falcons: Loss (1-11) If these two teams met early in the 2025 season, we'd pick the Jets to win as Michael Penix Jr. settles in as a starter. By this point in the year, however, the Atlanta Falcons quarterback will have really settled in and found a rhythm in the offense. Atlanta's defense will allow New York to keep it tight throughout, but the offensive firepower the Falcons have, led by Bijan Robinson, proves to be the difference-maker. Prediction: Atlanta Falcons 28, New York Jets 23 Week 14 vs Miami Dolphins: Win (2-11) The Jets avenge their early-season loss in Miami, with a defensive clinic and some big plays from Garrett Wilson earning the team's second victory of the year. New York is also starting to look a lot more competitive and playing more consistently quarter-to-quarter. Prediction: New York Jets 20, Miami Dolphins 17 Week 15 @ Jacksonville Jaguars: Loss (2-12) Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville Jaguars should be better than many expect in 2025. They have the receiver tandem to exploit the Jets' cornerback opposite Gardner and a run game to maintain a well-balanced attack. The Jets' front seven should be able to dial up enough pressure to at least make Lawrence uncomfortable at times, but Jacksonville still holds the slight edge on both sides of the ball. Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars 27, New York Jets 24 Week 16 @ New Orleans Saints: Win (3-12) It will be the best all-around performance by the Jets in 2025. Fields, who will essentially be playing for his next contract, comes through with a pair of touchdowns and Breece Hall delivers 100-plus scrimmage yards. The offense will also be aided by New York facing a pair of turnovers, resulting in a 10-point win on the road against the New Orleans Saints. Prediction: New York Jets 27, New Orleans Saints 17 Week 17 vs New England Patriots: Win (4-12) It's a winning streak for New York late in the year. Defensive adjustments made by Glenn for the second matchup versus Maye pay off. Quinnen Williams gets a sack, leading a dominant performance by the Jets' defensive line. It'll be a defensive battle, but Wilson and rookie tight end Mason Taylor help set up the game-winning field goal with under a minute left. Prediction: New York Jets 20, New England Patriots 17 Week 18 @ Buffalo Bills: Loss (4-13) Buffalo will likely be playing for the AFC's No. 1 seed and home-field advantage in Week 18, so the Jets won't get a chance to notch a win against backups. On the bright side, New York finishes the season with a 4–13 record, locking itself into a top-three pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The win total isn't ideal for Glenn in his first year, but it puts the team in a great position to land a franchise-caliber QB prospect in April.
