‘13' or ‘27' lovers? Philippines' Duterte kisses goodbye to his womanising days

Former president
Rodrigo Duterte , a self-proclaimed womaniser, once bragged that he had a wife, a second wife and at least two girlfriends. Now, in The Hague facing a war crimes trial that could see him sentenced up to 30 years in jail, the 80-year-old has some advice for the women in his life.
'To all his girlfriends – look for somebody else. Somebody with plenty of credit cards,' his son, Congressman Paolo Duterte, told supporters in The Hague on Monday, relaying the patriarch's words after visiting him at the ICC.
How many women Duterte was bidding farewell to remains unclear. Paolo claimed to know of '13' in Davao City alone.
A source who knew Duterte well told This Week in Asia on condition of anonymity that there were 'at least 27' women. 'That's my count,' the source said. 'He has lots of illegitimate children.'
The women have become a new source of turmoil for the Duterte clan. Several have travelled to the Netherlands in recent weeks, hoping to see him, only to be denied access, fuelling an exchange of accusations among his extended family and diehard supporters.

Amsterdam Pride parade blends celebration and protest in LGBTQ show of solidarity

At Amsterdam's World Heritage canals on Saturday around 80 colourful Pride boats sailed through in the finale of a week-long celebration in the city that stood in stark contrast to recent crackdowns on LGBTQ rights in fellow European Union member state Hungary. While the flotilla is not political, attendees used the occasion in the Netherlands to criticise conflicts or world leaders for their stance on LGBTQ rights. Thehany Gilmore, a 43-year-old Dutch-Caribbean dressed in a leather outfit with a whip, said the banning of the Budapest parade in Hungary 'is a form of oppression'. 'People everywhere should have their own pride to be able to represent who they are,' she said. Palestinian flags were spotted among the crowd of revellers and Dutch police arrested four activists who had jumped into the water to vandalise the boat in protest over its listings in settlements in Israeli-occupied territories.

Philippines to ask ‘friendly countries' for help freeing 9 sailors held by Houthis in Yemen

The Philippines said on Tuesday that it would ask 'friendly countries' to help secure the release of nine Filipino sailors being held by Yemen 's Houthi rebels. The Iran-backed Houthis released video footage on Monday of crew members missing after attacks on the Eternity C and Magic Seas cargo ships, claiming in an accompanying statement to have 'rescued' the mariners. Last week, Human Rights Watch said the rebels were unlawfully detaining the crew and that their attacks on shipping amounted to war crimes. The United States has accused the Houthis of kidnapping. Philippine Foreign Undersecretary Eduardo De Vega confirmed the Houthis were holding nine Filipino seafarers. 'I do not want to use the term hostage. At least we know they are alive,' he said. 'We're not going to talk directly with the Houthis. We're going to seek help from friendly countries,' he added.
