Shake Shack is jumping on the value meal bandwagon temporarily, offering customers its first-ever combo meal through March 15.
The New York City-based restaurant chain, like Five Guys, is one of a few fast-food joints that still sells menu items separately. Until now.
Shake Shack is taking out a page from its competitors' playbook by extending the $9.99 meal deal, which features the Chicken Shack sandwich, crinkle cut fries and a small soda at locations nationwide for the next two weeks.
To celebrate its first-ever combo meal, Shake Shack is embarking on a social media search for someone to bring its first mascot, Chickette, to life.
Here's what to know about Shake Shack's first-ever combo meal, including how to get it.
Value meal wars continue in 2025: See deals at McDonald's, Burger King, more
Shake Shack takes cues from competitors
A number of Shake Shack's competitors in the fast food game, including McDonald's, Burger King and Wendy's, have offered and continue to offer their own take on the value meal.
Value meals were a way for fast food chains to cater to consumers concerned about inflation and higher food prices. These budget-friendly meals have become a mainstay as a result of increasing food prices.
Fast food chains weren't the only ones to embrace the approach. At the start of the new year, Outback Steakhouse offered an Aussie 3-Course Meal for $14.99, and convenience store chain Circle K began to offer $3, $4 and $5 meal deals.
Food away from home has increased 3.6% over the 12-month period ending in December 2024, compared to a 2.5% increase for all food and a 2.9% increase in all items, according to the Labor Department's consumer price index. Limited-service meals have risen slightly higher (3.7%) than full-service meals at 3.7%.
"Consumers are continuing to feel the sting of inflation and so more than half of Americans are eating out less than they used to," Christopher Hydock, a professor at Tulane University's School of Business, who specializes in consumer experience and retail pricing, previously told USA TODAY.
Hydock highlighted trend data from CivicScience, market researcher, which found 59% of the 1,535 U.S. adults surveyed in October 2024 said they had dined out less often in the previous six months, with many spending more on groceries so they could eat at home.
"With less customers eating out, restaurants are forced to compete for fewer customers which forces them to find ways to differentiate their offerings," Hydock said. "Since price is also increasingly a concern for customers, value meals are one logical way of doing so."

Development black hole remains on West 57th Street

If West 57th Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues exemplifies Manhattan's regenerative energy, the block east between Fifth and Sixth avenues remains a black hole of development ambition. The 900-foot-long block — longer than three and a half midtown north-south blocks — looks gloomier every year as landowners hold out for magic-bullet combos of tenant commitments and construction financing. West of Bergdorf Goodman and the Crown Building stretches a procession of vacant lots, empty storefronts and scaffolding. At least four enormous sites await activity. Developers including Vornado, Lefrak, Soloviev, and at least one unknown outfit have kept their sites barren for years. There is a string of vacant lots, empty storefronts and scaffolding on West 57th Street west of Bergdorf Goodman and the Crown Building. New York Post At least four enormous sites await activity. New York Post The latest blows to the block were the closings of Brasserie 8 and a Half at Soloviev's 9 West and Rue 57 at the western corner. The opening soon of a small Abel Richard handbags boutique at 7 West is more than offset by large retail vacancies on either side of Nobu at 40 W. 57th and at the former locations of Mangia and other shops and cafes. Manhattan-based developer Sedesco, meanwhile, is demolishing a building to enlarge a site it's been assembling for more than 10 years between 37-47 W. 57th St. The supertall, mixed-use project is to be designed by 'starchitect' Rem Koolhaas' OMA studio. It will likely re-energize its surroundings. But no construction plans have yet been filed with the Department of Buildings.

Nearly 95% of homebuyers in this major US city want to move away

Stop us if you've heard this before: People are increasingly choosing affordable living in the suburbs over big-city living and amenities. A surge in pandemic-driven remote work is mostly behind the shift in the last half decade, but rapidly rising average home ownership costs are equally to blame in recent years. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Stagnant interest rates, tariff uncertainty and growing housing inventory across the U.S. continue to paint a hazy picture of what's next for the residential real estate market. Still, who among us hasn't channeled our inner Wilson from "Home Improvement" and peeked over the proverbial Zillow, Redfin, or fence on occasion? Realtor's recently released Q2 2025 cross-market demand report shows shoppers are browsing outside of their current market nearly 60% of the time. That metric has grown from 48.1% of all listing views in Q2 2019 to 58.9% last quarter. That was down just a tick from 59.8% in Q1, though. Related: Top 5 states where foreign buyers are scooping up US real estate Among the four major U.S. regions, residents in Western states are most guilty of peeking across city limits - 65% of the time - as has been the case for the trailing six years. However, the Northeast isn't too far behind, as affordability in densely populated spots like Boston, Providence, and New York remain unsustainable for many. Still, a major California city held claim to the highest percentage of residents ogling listings outside of where they currently call home. Digging into the data, Q2 report pinpointed San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara, California, as the No. 1 metro losing popularity among local residents. A whopping 93.7% of home shoppers in the area are looking for their next residence outside of the metro. More News: Moody's drops 2-word warning on housing marketHomeowners can earn new cash-back rewards on mortgage payments soonDave Ramsey has blunt advice on bankruptcy for Americans buying a home now "Specifically, around 60% of views were to other parts of California, while nearly 35% targeted properties in other states," Realtor's Jiayi Xu wrote. "The most popular in-state destination was San Francisco, while Reno, NV, led among out-of-state views." Located 50 miles southeast of San Francisco, San Jose's population sat just north of one million people in the most recent 2020 U.S. census, making it the 10th largest city in the U.S. While this trend is eye-popping, this isn't exactly anything new, considering San Jose held down the top spot in the country in Q2 last year as well. The same holds true for the No. 2-ranked (with 86.4%) locale, Washington, D.C. Rounding out the rest of the top 10 metros losing homebuyers' interest last quarter were Seattle (80.5%), Salt Lake City (77%), Stockton (72.9%), Durham/Chapel Hill (72.6%), Chicago (72.6%), Denver (72.1%), Boston (72%), and New York/Newark (71.7%). Boston was the fast riser year-over-year, jumping from No. 26 to No. 9, all while Massachusetts' capital city also ranks No. 4 overall when zooming out over the past six years.
