BRAZILIAN sensation Estevao Willian rejected the offer to spend the rest of the Club World Cup with his Chelsea team-mates - because he wanted to say a proper goodbye.
Enzo Maresca and the Blues hierarchy urged teenage starlet Estevao to share the Chelsea embrace after the youngster scored against his new side in the quarter-final showdown in Philadelphia.

Cole Palmer was just one of a clutch of Chelsea players who spoke to Estevao after the final whistle as they welcomed the youngster.
They included Reece James, who spoke his 'welcome to Stamford Bridge' message in Portuguese, Enzo Fernandez, Liam Delap, Moises Caicedo and another new recruit, Dario Essugo.

Despite being touched by the invitation, Estevao said he had a debt to his pals at Palmeiras that needed to be repaid before he could move on with the next chapter of his life in London.

That meant getting on a flight back to Sao Paulo rather than moving on to New York with Maresca's men ahead of their semi-final against Fluminense.
The youngster explained: "I had to ask Essugo what Cole had said to me. He laughed a bit before translating, telling me 'Cole said he's excited for you and want you to come with us after the game'."
Estevao added: 'I wanted to stay some more time with my team pals.
'I came here with them. And I should go back to Brazil with them.

'I just wanted to show my new fans in England who I am. That it is all.
'I hope to learn. I am sure I come to London to evolve, and to make history there too.
'Chelsea, though, can wait a few more days.
'I want to say goodbye properly to each and every player, technical staff and working person at our base camp.'
Estevao's emotional departure was also a huge signal to Maresca and the Chelsea dressing room that they are getting a gem - and one close, potentially ready, to adorn the team.
Enzo told the 19-year-old: 'We'll make history together' while fellow Brazilian new boy Joao Pedro hugged him and said: "This is your new home, little brother.'
Delap offered a warm and enthusiastic handshake, Christopher Nkunku, Essugo and Caicedo pushed him gently and messed with his hair, before Brazilian Andrey Santos greeted him in their native tongue and spent a minute locked in an embrace of friendship.
There was a final, parting, conversation with Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira in a quiet hallway.
Ferreira said: 'You're leaving through the big door.
'But now it's time to close cycles and believe in your future.'

Joao Pedro double fires Chelsea into Club World Cup final

The Brazil forward, who only completed his £60million move from Brighton last week, struck in style in each half as Chelsea overcame his first professional club and sweltering conditions in New York on Tuesday. Their reward for victory is a guaranteed cash prize of around £80million and the chance to play for a jackpot exceeding £90m in Sunday's final against Real Madrid or Paris St Germain. Joao Pedro celebrated in respectful style against his first professional club (Seth Wenig/AP) Manager Enzo Maresca handed Pedro, who made his debut off the bench in the quarter-final defeat of Palmeiras, his first start in the absence of the suspended Liam Delap. It was a decision which paid very rich dividends as Chelsea battled past a Fluminense side who, captained by veteran former Blues defender Thiago Silva, had defied expectations to reach the last four. The temperature was around 34C at kick-off at MetLife Stadium and Chelsea were playing their 63rd game of a season that began last August. Yet they still made a strong start with the influential Enzo Fernandez having a shot blocked and then floating in a free-kick which Tosin Adarabioyo headed wide. Pedro Neto was also lively and it was his break down the left which led to Pedro's stunning opener on 18 minutes. We are all Pedro Neto right now. 😮‍💨#FIFACWC — FIFA Club World Cup (@FIFACWC) July 8, 2025 Neto whipped in a cross which was cleared only as far as the former Brighton striker on the edge of the area and he brilliantly curled a shot beyond 44-year-old goalkeeper Fabio. It was a spectacular way to open his account for his new club but Pedro's celebrations were notably muted, almost apologetic, in front of the Fluminense fans. Chelsea could have immediately doubled their lead after Neto picked out Malo Gusto but the Frenchman's stooping header was straight at Fabio. They were almost made to regret that miss when Hercules broke through and rounded Robert Sanchez but Marc Cucurella cleared off the line. Chelsea had another scare when French referee Francois Letexier pointed to the penalty spot after a Fluminense cross flicked the head of Thiago Santos and then struck the arm of Trevoh Chalobah. It seemed a harsh decision and was reversed following a VAR review. Chelsea threatened again before the break when a Neto strike was deflected wide and Sanchez came to their rescue after the restart when he saved from Everaldo. Pedro struck the decisive blow on 56 minutes as Chelsea broke from deep inside their own half. Fernandez found Pedro with a superb through-ball and he cut inside Ignacio to hit a thunderous shot in off the underside of the bar. From then it became a case of seeing out the job and, although booked for time-wasting, Chelsea keeper Sanchez was not troubled. On the downside, Moises Caicedo appeared to pick up an injury in the closing stages. Nicolas Jackson could have added a third goal when he fired into the side-netting.

Video on Celtic X account showed the Lord Mayor of Cork presenting captain Callum McGregor with the trophy indoors after some warm words were exchanged between the pair. There was a smattering of applause around the room rather than the thousands of fans who would have been cheering the Hoops skipper and players lifting the trophy aloft. Mayor of Cork said: "Thanks for a wonderful game, it was brilliant and our city divided between Celtic and City, it was an incredible evening." McGregor responded saying: "Thank you so much for having us it was a great game so thank you." Celtic won the match 2-1 thanks to a screamer from Luke McCowan and Colby Donovan. The youngster started, then came off at half-time as Brendan Rodgers' made 11 changes, before coming on again to power a header in from close range minutes before full-time. It was the second of seven encounters for Celtic across Scotland, Ireland, Portugal and Italy this month as the Hoops build up to the new season. Once again the international stars weren't in action because they only began training last week. But they will come into contention for the clashes against Portuguese duo Estrela da Amadora and giants Sporting Lisbon. Celtic fans would never let their club die says Hoops hero Peter Grant Then they face Newcastle United at home before heading to the Como Cup in Italy later this month. Against Cork, Celtic fans got a chance to see new signing Hayato Inamura in action for the first time and they would have been impressed by what they saw. Signed as a player for the future from Albirex Niigata, the 23-year-old looked lively and sharp in his first 45 minutes. Boss Brendan Rodgers even suggested it may make him re-think letting him go out on loan this season. There was also a run-out for new signing Callum Osmand in the second half.
