UAE to chair AI panel on search and rescue efforts
This development follows the successful series of international meetings hosted by Abu Dhabi from May 27 to June 5, 2025, where key advancements in space-based search and rescue technologies were discussed.
The UAE's National Guard Command, through the National Search and Rescue Centre, presented a comprehensive working paper that laid the foundation for the creation of this specialised committee.
The proposal, widely recognised for its innovation, calls for the integration of AI into Mission Control Centre (MCC) operations to enhance the performance, speed, and accuracy of distress signal processing across satellite networks. By leveraging intelligent data analysis and cross-system integration, the initiative aims to significantly improve global response times and operational efficiency in life-saving missions.
The move was praised by representatives from 45 countries and major international organisations, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), and the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), who acknowledged the UAE's leadership in advancing humanitarian rescue capabilities through cutting-edge technology.
Under the newly adopted framework, the UAE-led working group will coordinate technical collaboration among member states, develop AI-driven tools for mission control systems, and foster global readiness and responsiveness in search and rescue operations.
The committee also formally commended the UAE for its transformative contributions, underscoring its strategic role in modernising the COSPAS-SARSAT system and reinforcing its position as a key player in international emergency response efforts.
Looking ahead, the committee will work to establish global standards for AI integration in space-based search and rescue systems, promote knowledge exchange, and welcome new partners eager to contribute to this forward-looking initiative.

UAE team unveils world's first AI-designed helmet at Tour de France
In a groundbreaking fusion of technology and sport, the UAE Team Emirates–XRG debuted a new helmet on July 8 at the Tour de France — the first ever designed using generative artificial intelligence (AI). The helmet was developed by Abu Dhabi-based AI company G42 in partnership with Italian manufacturer MET Helmets. 'The helmet's unique livery was created using advanced AI tools to interpret movement through airflow and negative space, blending data, performance, and creativity,' according to G42. The Tour de France, a 21-day cycling race that began on Saturday, July 5, continues until July 27, with the UAE team now showcasing innovation not just in performance but in gear as well. GenAI helmet design competition In addition to unveiling the helmet, G42 has launched Helmetverse — a global design competition inviting fans to create their own AI-generated helmet artwork using simple text prompts. Participants can upload their designs to the Helmetverse website, where users can vote on their favourites. Top entries will be reviewed by experts from G42, UAE Team Emirates–XRG, and MET Helmets. The winning design will be worn by the UAE team during the 2026 UAE Tour, marking the first time a fan-designed helmet appears in a professional race. Submissions are open until September 15. As the official AI partner of UAE Team Emirates–XRG, G42 said they 'will work closely with the team to explore ways AI can improve performance, training, and fan engagement'. The collaboration underscores the UAE team's leadership both on and off the road, following recent Tour de France victories and top rankings in the UCI World Tour.

UAE: Nearly one-third certified employees got salary increase after IT certification
A new study has revealed how IT certifications are transforming career prospects, with significant implications for the UAE's fast-evolving digital workforce. According to the 2025 Value of IT Certification Candidate Report by Pearson VUE, 82 per cent of certified professionals reported increased confidence in their career growth, and 63 per cent either received or expected a promotion after certification. Meanwhile, local experts emphasised that as the country strengthens its position as a regional hub for innovation and digital transformation, certifications are clearly emerging as a vital asset, for individuals and organisations alike. They reiterate the UAE is aligned with these trends, and employers across the nation increasingly value certified skills in AI, cybersecurity, data, and cloud computing. 'In addition, 32 per cent received a salary increase, while 41 per cent were hoping for one — of those who did, nearly a third saw raises exceeding 20 per cent. These figures highlight the tangible value employers place on certified skills, reflecting a broader trend of prioritising certified talent for career advancement and financial rewards,' said Dr Gary Gates, Managing Director, Pearson VUE. In the UAE, where the digital economy continues to accelerate, these insights mirror on-ground hiring practices. Aws Ismail, a recruitment expert based in the UAE, noted, 'From what we are seeing in the UAE job market, IT certifications are being recognised more than ever, especially in technical and rapidly evolving fields and industries. "As a recruitment company, we're seeing our clients request certifications more frequently, particularly in areas like cloud, cybersecurity, data, and AI. In many cases, I believe they've become a stronger indicator of how current and capable a professional truly is, as it shows continuous learning and upskilling.' The report, based on insights from nearly 24,000 certified professionals, also found that 84 per cent plan to pursue additional certifications within the next 12 months — a sign that continuous upskilling is fast becoming a non-negotiable in the tech sector. Gates added, 'Certifications have a significant and measurable impact on employee performance, innovation, and work quality. 79 per cent of certified employees deliver higher quality work, while 70 per cent report increased efficiency, producing more in less time. Additionally, 76 per cent of certified individuals demonstrate a stronger ability to innovate and improve processes. Notably, 74 per cent have gained the skills necessary to perform tasks or fill roles that were previously beyond their capability.' 69% employers started, increased AI investments This is particularly relevant to the UAE's future workforce plans, as 69 per cent of global employers have started or increased AI-related investments, and local firms are following suit. Companies here are allocating training budgets and offering incentives to employees seeking to enhance their digital skills, recruiters explained. 'We've also seen how certifications positively impact team performance. Certified professionals tend to be more structured, bring clearer methodologies, and often take the lead in solving complex problems based on their recent training and upskilling... which naturally drives innovation and better outcomes for the entire team,' Ismail added. Look beyond short-term ROI The sentiment is echoed by Nadeem Ahmed, talent acquisition specialist at Sharjah Maritime Academy. 'In today's competitive and skills-driven workplace, organisations increasingly recognise IT certifications as critical indicators of competence, growth mindset, and technical readiness." "HR and Talent Acquisition teams often filter applicants using certification keywords for tech and digital roles. Certifications are viewed as a signal that an employee is ready for high-stakes or strategic assignments," Ahmed added. "CIO Magazine survey reports that 31 per cent of professionals received a 20 per cent salary increase after getting certified. Additionally, organisations conduct internal reviews showing how certified staff led or supported key initiatives.' UAE-based employers are also learning to look beyond short-term ROI. As Ismail pointed out, 'Employers are now understanding that upskilling doesn't need immediate ROI. The value should be better performance, faster delivery, and less reliance on outside talent which meets long term company objectives, and this, in a fast-paced digital economy, is a smart investment.'

The agreement aims to support ICV-certified small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) under the National In-Country Value (ICV) Program. This initiative is part of the UAE's broader Projects of the 50 strategy. Under the MoU, e& UAE will provide a range of exclusive incentives to more than 7,000 SMEs registered with MoIAT. These enterprises have obtained ICV certification and are part of the national effort to boost local industrial growth. The incentives include: Preferential rates on internet services and mobile plans Digital payment solutions Access to Microsoft productivity tools These tailored packages are intended to accelerate digital transformation and enhance operational efficiency across the SME sector. MoIAT revealed that the partnership reflects ongoing efforts to support local industrial development, strengthen economic resilience, and promote technological progress. Her Excellency Salama Al Awadhi, Assistant Undersecretary for the Industrial Development Sector at MoIAT, stated that the ministry continues to engage with strategic partners to support the growth of the UAE's industrial sector. She reported that the National ICV Program plays a key role in the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology, alongside the Technology Transformation Program and the Make it in the Emirates initiative. According to MoIAT, the program has delivered measurable economic results. By the end of 2024, cumulative local spending through the National ICV Program reached AED 347 billion. The number of strategic partners involved in the program has now reached 35, covering both federal and local government entities and national companies. Al Awadhi emphasized the central role of SMEs in driving this growth. Esam Mahmoud, Senior Vice President of SMB Sales & Marketing at e& UAE, commented on the company's role in the partnership. He said e& UAE is proud to collaborate with MoIAT to advance the National ICV Program. He noted that SMEs are a key part of the UAE's economy and that the company aims to empower them with digital tools that enhance growth and competitiveness. Mahmoud added that the partnership will help incentivize more companies to obtain ICV certification.
