Dear Hongrang – K-drama Episode 6 Recap & Review
Episode 6 of Dear Hongrang begins with Gyu-ha warning Hong-rang about Kkot-nim's kill order. He rationalises that the marriage will keep Jae-yi safe and Hong-rang should leave her be.
However, Jae-yi tries to make a run for it. She is brought back by Yeon-ui's man, Yuk-son who threatens the sleuths.
5 days are left for the marriage when Mu-jin gets a note from Lady Ko. They can annul the marriage on the grounds that Choi Ju-yeol is still married to her. Ko plans to show up in the middle of the ceremony.
It is D-Day and the ceremony begins. Mu-jin's men cannot find Lady Ko and Jae-yi looks scared as the ceremony ends. Seeing her fear, Hong-rang feels guilty. He is the one who sent Mu-jin the note and helped Lady Ko run away. On top of that, Hong-rang learns that Yeon-ui plans to kill Jae-yi, blame it on Ju-yeol and take his land as a prenup violation.
While Mu-jin and his men frantically try to stop the consummation, Yeon-ui's assassin drugs Jae-yi and attacks her. Hong-rang kills the assassin and hides her. She comes around but her vision is hazy. She holds his hand and he kisses her.
Outside, Mu-jin confronts Ju-yeol when he finds Jae-yi missing. Before it can get worse, Yeol-guk reveals his hand. He brings in Lady Ko who exposes the Chois. The marriage is annulled as Ju-yeol has a living wife.
Jae-yi is still missing and Mu-jin suspects Hong-rang. However, Hong-rang pretends to be drunk in his room. Alone, In-hoe confronts him. He looks sad when Hong-rang confesses that he has fallen for Jae-yi.
The next morning Mu-jin finds a confused Jae-yi in her room and recounts last night's events. She looks troubled as the drunk Hong-rang story doesn't match her hazy memory of kissing him.
Meanwhile, Hong-rang begs Kkot-nim to leave Jae-yi alone. He will do his part and get her the Min Guild's partition deed. But she believes Jae-yi will betray him like Yeol-guk betrayed her.
As for Yeol-guk, he is surprised when Mun Gyu-ha proposes an alliance. It is revealed that the Sims were a poor family and Yeol-guk meant to use the Min wealth to run away with Kkot-nim. Gyu-ha pretends to sympathise and claims they have to take down the real enemy – Yeon-ui.
Back home, Jae-yi confronts Hong-rang about the kiss. She hopes it is a dream, as she will be in pain if it turns out to be real. He assures her that it was a dream but he looks sad.
Feeling bitter, he focuses on Kkot-nim's plan. He hints to Yeon-ui that Yeol-guk is having an affair and she has Yuk-son follow him. It is bad timing for the Sims as Yeol-guk creates a secret guild under his name. He signs Mu-jin on as the guildmaster and shares his plan to transfer their assets to the new guild.
As part of the plan, the royal registry gives the Min Guild's position to the Muns. Yeon-ui is upset and Yeol-guk swoops in with a solution to partner with the Muns. But once he leaves, Yuk-son updates her that Yeol-guk is secretly meeting with Mun Gyu-ha, Kkot-nim's brother. She puts two and two together and is furious.
Meanwhile, Mu-jin is pleasantly surprised as Jae-yi starts avoiding Hong-rang. But he happens upon her sketchbook which is filled with sketches of (fake) Hong-rang. Looks like he just cannot catch a break as Yuk-son follows Mu-jin's men while they hide guild assets at the Min silver mine. Yuk-son sets off a bomb which kills most of the men.
At the end of Dear Hongrang Episode 6, Yeon-ui accuses Mu-jin of illegal sulfur trade, the miners' casualties and embezzling from the Min Guild to his own Sim Guild. Yeol-guk tries to stop her but she gives him a choice – to send Mu-jin to the magistrate or to quietly deal with it. He lets Yeon-ui hold Mu-jin captive.
The Episode Review
Dear Hongrang Episode 6 is a busy chapter as it deals with the Ju-yeol marriage, causes a rift between Hong-rang and Jae-yi, has Gyu-ha entrapping Yeol-guk and Yeon-ui taking out her anger on Mu-jin. It feels like a movie with constant action and plot progression.
Even the filler scenes add to the story or aid in character development, such as Mu-jin being pushed to the dark side as his father abandons him and Jae-yi falls for Hong-rang. Then there is Jae-yi who is conflicted by the kiss as she now believes that Hong-rang is her brother. It may feel icky to viewers as Jae-yi believes she is living in Game of Thrones, attracted to her brother. Honestly, the K-drama could have easily kept the same story, stakes and suspense while getting rid of the sibling factor.
Additionally, the narrative in this chapter is a little too convoluted in trying to weave an ambitious thriller involving several subconflicts and way too many characters. It feels disjointed and viewers are bound to get confused unless they rewatch the episode with a keen eye for every clue and misdirect.
The Evil Painter and Snow Man drama also seems to be sidelined for a majority of the episodes so far. Which is quite strange since it is supposed to be the main crux of the conflict that affects the two Hong-rangs.

Yellowstone star claims he 'lost everything' after being ousted from Hollywood
Yellowstone actor Neal McDonough said his refusal to kiss women other than his wife was a death knell for his Hollywood career. The veteran performer, 59, chat on Wednesday's edition of the podcast Nothing Left Unsaid, opening up on a yearslong slide he said was due to his strict adherence to his marital vows. 'I'd always had in my contracts that I wouldn't kiss another woman on screen,' the Boston-born actor and strict Catholic told the podcast hosts Tim Green and Troy Green. McDonough played the role of Malcolm Beck on six episodes of Yellowstone in 2019. They included: The Reek of Desperation, Only Devils Left, Blood the Boy, Resurrection Day, Behind Us Only Grey and Sins of the Father. McDonough clarified that the contractual demand was at his behest, and not that of his spouse Ruve McDonough, who he's been wed to since 2003 and shares five children with. 'My wife didn't have any problem with it - it was me, really, who had a problem with it,' said McDonough, who's been seen on TV shows such as Desperate Housewives, Tulsa King and Meghan Markle 's one-time show Suits. McDonough said it was impossible for Hollywood producers to get that he was dead serious about his demand - and they quickly stopped using him as a result. 'When I wouldn't do it... they couldn't understand,' McDonough said of his refusal to kiss other women on camera. 'Hollywood just completely turned on me, and they wouldn't let me be part of the show anymore. 'For two years, I couldn't get a job and I lost everything you could possibly imagine.' McDonough's movie credits include Star Trek: First Contact, Red 2 and Guns & Moses. He also starred as Lynn 'Buck' Compton in HBO's war drama Band of Brothers (2001). He said that the loss of work resulted in a domino effect in which everything dear to him began slipping away. 'Not just houses [and] material things, but your swagger, your cool, who you are, your identity - everything,' McDonough said. 'My identity was an actor, and a really good one.' McDonough said that the problems lingered for an extended period. 'Once you don't have that identity, you're kind of lost in a tailspin,' McDonough said. 'And I was in a big, ugly tailspin for a couple of years.' McDonough's most recent role came in the May feature film The Last Rodeo, which he was a writer on and played the lead role of Joe Wainwright. His spouse Ruvé portrayed the role of his wife Rose Wainwright in the movie, and the two did kiss onscreen. Prior to acting in the role, Ruvé, a native of South Africa, had a background in fashion modeling and film production. The rodeo drama also starred Mykelti Williamson, Sarah Jones, Graham Harvey and Christopher McDonald.

I've been a fixer for some of Britain's biggest TV shows... Jeremy Clarkson threw a tantrum while filming Top Gear - so the crew got their revenge
A fixer used by top TV stars has lifted the lid on stars' furious off-screen rows, near-fatal crashes, 'demanding' antics and how viewers were tricked with faked scenes made to look dangerous. Digby Greenhalgh, co-owner of Explore Indochina, has guided stars including Jeremy Clarkson, Gordon Ramsay and Bear Grylls on motorcycle trips in South East Asia. Now he has opened up about his own experiences - including witnessing Clarkson flying into a vicious foul-mouthed tirade and spitting at a colleague. The row happened during filming for the Top Gear Vietnam special in October 2008 - seven years before he was sacked by the BBC for punching a colleague. In a blog post, Mr Greenhalgh, described the moment the presenter confronted executive producer and longtime friend Andy Wilman in a hotel foyer filming at a beach club finished for the day and they returned to the hotel without him. He wrote: 'In the confusion, understandable at the end of such a long and tiring day, Jeremy was left behind and mobbed by the tourists. 'He had trouble finding the hotel, and when he finally returned, it was just him, myself and Andy [Wilman] in the hotel's foyer. 'He was pissed off and went straight up to Andy and shouted, 'You care more about the crew than me. I'm out of here, you c***'. 'Then Jeremy spat in Andy's direction and stormed into the elevator. Andy was stunned and turned to me and said he'd been Jeremy's best man twice. 'It had been an extremely long day.' The Top Gear Vietnam special which aired in December 2008 saw Clarkson and co stars Richard Hammond and James May, travelling 1,000 miles across the country in eight days and proved a huge hit with fans with 6.7 million viewers tuning in. Explore Indochina provided further assistance with them during filming and Digby revealed the back wheel nearly fell off Clarkson's Vespa moped but the BBC refused to spend more than $400 on a safer but more expensive alternative. Digby - who carried the lead cameraman on the back of his bike - also revealed the crew became so sick of Clarkson's outbursts they wouldn't fix a short circuit on his Vespa moped so he was repeatedly electrocuted. He added: 'At one point, the director asked Jeremy to repeat what he'd just said, but while looking at the camera. Jeremy said 'Since when do you do the talking? This is Top Gear, and I do the talking'. 'The Vespa started to give Jeremy electrical shocks, and we all smiled behind his back. One of the crew members said he could probably fix it, but it was decided that he should just let him suffer.' In 2009 Digby joined the crew filming Bear Grylls' Man vs Wild show in the Khe Bang-Phong Nha National Park - and revealed the adventurer slept one night in a cave before secretly checking into a hotel that had to be booked out so nobody got a photo of him relaxing by the pool. He also accused the ex-SAS trooper of faking other scenes including filming wilderness scenes right next to the road, hidden safety wires during river crossings and an 'encounter' with a cobra bought from a local snake restaurant and tied to a tree. He wrote: 'All these [filming] spots had to be no more than a 20-minute walk from a road, and, ideally, right next to the road. 'Next time you watch the show, notice how he's always running around, giving the impression that he is covering lots of ground. In reality, he just runs around in circles. 'The whole snake in a national park issue was solved by buying a massive cobra in a snake restaurant outside the park and then tying it to a tree. Bear comes across it, says some BS about it being a spitting cobra, and goes around it.' He was also employed by the BBC for an episode of Most Dangerous Roads in which Sue Perkins and Liza Tarbuck drove the Ho Chi Minh Trail. He wrote: 'I was hired as the Trail guide and expert but spent most of my time keeping the presenters happy. 'The pair were rather demanding, and accommodation on the Trail in those days was rough, so one of my jobs was to ride ahead of Perkins and Tarbuck and ensure their rooms were presentable. 'That meant splashing bleach on the floor and bathrooms to eliminate unpleasant odours, laying out fresh, clean, disposable sheets, and sweeping up any nasty surprises.' On another BBC show - Without Limits - he claims the shoot almost ended in tragedy when a modified jeep blew a gasket, lost steering and crashed while the brake disk on a disabled presenter's modified bike broke off. He wrote: 'The shoot occurred during the middle of a scorching summer, which, apart from making it very uncomfortable for the presenters, almost resulted in a terrible crash when the jeep overheated and blew a gasket. 'The loss of hydraulics disengaged the steering wheel, and the jeep hit the roadside barrier. Only three kilometres down the road was an extremely steep descent above a very high cliff, which would have been fatal if the gasket had blown there. 'On the same pass, the back disk brake on one of the presenter's bikes broke off, and he was lucky to escape unscathed. In both cases, the root cause of the problem was the rushed schedule imposed on us to get the vehicles and motorcycles ready for the shoot.' Digby also filmed with Gordon Ramsay when he travelled to Vietnam to learn how to prepare famous local dishes for Gordon's Great Escape. He revealed the show's legal department decided the TV chef was 'too valuable' to ride on any public road and could only go around in circles on a closed-off cement road. But as soon as he got out of sight of the director Gordon, 58, gunned his 650cc Ural bike through traffic and past a police road block. He wrote: 'Gordon's off-camera demeanour was very different to his trademark grumpy persona. Polite and professional, he was a pleasure to work with.'
