Terengganu state govt to cover funeral costs for 15 bus accident victims
According to State Welfare, Women's Development, Family, and National Unity Committee Chairman, Maliaman Kassim, the state government will also provide logistical support to the victims' families who are at the hospital.
Additionally, he stated that a psychosocial team will be assigned to assist family members facing trauma or grief due to the incident.
'Indeed, the passing of these students is a great loss not only to their families but also to Terengganu, which is very proud of the achievements and spirit of its youth in pursuing knowledge.
'For the families, we will provide counseling services and immediate assistance to help them cope with difficult moments like today,' he said in a statement today.
In the incident that occurred between 12:30 am and 1:00 am, 15 UPSI students died when a chartered bus traveling from Jertih to Tanjung Malim, Perak, overturned after being involved in an accident with a Perodua Alza multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on the JRTB, near Tasik Banding, Perak.
The accident also resulted in 33 others being injured, including the bus driver and second driver, as well as the Perodua Alza driver and three passengers.

KUALA TERENGGANU: A doctor's journey home from a futsal session ended in tragedy when he was involved in an accident along Jalan Kampung Undang yesterday. (Envanto Elements pic) MELAKA : The seven-year-old boy who was hospitalised at Melaka Hospital after nearly drowning in a swimming pool at an apartment in Taman Kota Laksamana died this morning. State health, human resources and unity committee chairman Ngwe Hee Sem said the student from SK Rinting 3, Johor, was confirmed dead by the hospital director at about 11am. 'The cause of death was loss of brain function. The victim had been on a ventilator, and it was supposed to be removed today to see if he could breathe on his own, but his heart stopped before that,' he told reporters outside the Melaka state legislative assembly in Seri Negeri here. Ngwe said the child's remains were claimed by his next of kin at 12.05pm today for burial in Johor. It was earlier reported that the boy, who is from Masai, Johor, had nearly drowned while swimming in the apartment's pool at about 9.30am on Sunday. Preliminary police investigations revealed that the boy had gone to the swimming pool with his family, who only realised he was missing after noticing he was no longer in the water. They then searched the area around the swimming pool and discovered that several members of the public had already pulled him out of the water. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was admitted to the paediatric intensive care unit of the hospital.

Transport Ministry to tighten bus safety rules for broader enforcement after fatal UPSI crash, says Fahmi
KUALA LUMPUR, July 21 — The Transport Ministry will roll out stronger bus safety enforcement measures following a deadly crash last month that killed 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said today. He said Transport Minister Anthony Loke had presented preliminary findings of the incident during the Cabinet meeting last Friday, and that enforcement actions would follow soon. 'Last Friday, the Cabinet discussed the findings of the preliminary report presented by the Transport Minister. Among the matters to be followed up by the Ministry of Transport are enforcement actions, not only against those directly responsible, but also a broader review of safety aspects concerning bus drivers,' he said. 'God willing, the transport minister will soon implement more coordinated, structured, and comprehensive enforcement measures to ensure that, should any issues arise involving bus drivers, early action can be taken,' he told a press conference at Parliament today. Last Saturday, the Road Transport Department (JPJ) said it was detailing additional action to be taken against the express bus operator involved in the incident. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said based on initial findings, the issue needed to be tackled comprehensively, involving not only JPJ and the police but also other relevant agencies. He said this would ensure a more effective road safety system across the country. The preliminary report revealed that the bus had been travelling at twice the permitted speed limit, which was one of the causes of the crash.
